Whats the differance with using the EKX 15s instead of using the EKX 12s?? The 15s are alot Heavier to be lifting on & off the Speaker Stand or Pole. is there a differance in sound??
Are the 12" tops made to be combined with the 15" subs and the 15" tops with the 18" subs ? I'm no expert and i didn't have the chance to listen to it but wouldn't a 12" top produce better mid frequencies which would be preferable because the low frequencies are produced by the sub anyway?
Hi my friend! I am doing dj in korea! I'm currently using two Ev-zlx15p at the party. But I'm feeling the limits of the speakers! So I'm looking for different brands of speakers, and I'm thinking about the Ev speakers and the sub-woofer combination. (Ev-zkx15p + Ev-zkx18sp) The price of the ztx series is too heavy. How many people do you think can be used at outdoor and indoor parties as zkx speakers? And I wonder if there is a difference between a 12-inch speaker + 15-inch sub-woofer and a 15-inch speaker + 18-inch sub-woofer. I'm going to set up my own speakers, and I wonder what kind of combination would be if I could only weigh the effectiveness of the speakers at the party without any inconvenience in size. I want to see the best efficiency in a reasonable price speaker.
EKX is a great option and we have had really good luck with them. I would say if you have the budget go with the EKX15p for tops and EKX18SP for your subs. They will blow your ZLX way :).
ideally yes, but the size of the mid and size of the sub cone isn't the biggest thing to look at when combining. the sub no matter what will pull the low frequencies and the tops will pull the mid and high frequency. The 18 sub will obviously hit the much lower frequencies consistently. The 15 sub with a 15 top will still make a ton of difference. Does that help at all?
question, I am starting to look at powered speakers. I have always been a big fan of the Electrovioce products. my question is, EKX or ETX? I know the ETX might be more then what I will ever need, but if I can afford them, Why Not? anyway I was wondering you thoughts on this?? thanks
+Tyto Hernandez The size... ;) just kidding. the 18" has a lower frequency response compared to the 15. What does that mean? It can go a little deeper. The thing is EV did such a good job with their 15" EKX sub that it is really comparable. Again if you want that extra low end it does make the slight difference between the two. Will you clients know... no. Great question!
Thank you for your answer, My question coming, because I will play soon on a party for 150 persons(its a regular small wedding or private party Crowd I playing with my small equipment -2 ZlX15p) So I just want to know, if 2 EKX 18sp its enough for this kind of gig, or you think I need 2 ETX-18sp......
+Tyto Hernandez oh yeah the ekx is for sure enough. the etx would be complete over kill and like I said before you still might need to turn down the ekx subs, but that just means you will have plenty of bass for your party :). ekx would be the best investment for you.
Thank you very much, one more time...and now I just waiting for a video of Lazers, from you jejeje :).. Greatings from Panama, Bridge of the world, hearth of the Universe :)
They would work but the etx are so powerful you would just need to back them down a bit so the sub runs efficiently. electro voice put a limiter on their new units so you don't over drive them. just be careful of that regarding the sub and use the presets in the digital display so each speaker knows "what it's working with."
+srcelomac2007 I think that is your best option with the etx 15sp if your looking for a 15". the ekx 15sp would be your second best option. Using the same series together is going to give you the best results but they are interchangeable. The ETX is such an amazing speaker that is why I don't want it to overpower your ekx. does that help at all?
+djjermusic let us know please! You are one of the very few youtubers with this sub. I have put a backorder on a unit. 2 weeks till it comes in. Jay Miller
Joji George Yes I am! We will be doing a video to show you how to use them in Cardio mode :). Very pleased and I already received my second order after going through the first order and making sure it is what we needed.
@@djjermusic Yes, I watched some videos and they did the same thing that first mixer output to subwoofer input, then subwoofer output to the input of the loudspeaker.
I have the sub with the 15zlx Powered speakers and I have both tops connected to the sub. It has added some serious Depth to my sound. I am a wedding dj. I would love to have 2 but having 1 70 lbs sub is good enough.
I have 2 ZLX 12p I’m looking at getting subs but I’m stuck on which one. I usually do weddings from 100-300 but also do school dances. I think if I got one 18 ETX I could just turn it down at smaller events and I’d have plenty bass at big events? What do you think?
Seth Garrett you could for sure go with one ETX. It is a big sub. I think you would be able to get away with the EKX 18 as well or do two EKX 15 subs. They are a pretty amazing 15"sub.
I've been looking at replacing my EV ELX system with this line. I've got 4x of the ELX118p's and 2x ELX112p's. Thought about getting 2x 12's, 2x 15's, and 4x 18 subs. When you did the 2 proms, did you just use 2 subs and 2 tops?
Hey Jeremy, I have 2 ZLX15p and they've had enough low end on their own since I usually do 50-100 people gigs. Recently Ive been landing bigger gigs (120-150ish) and they do not cut it anymore. I don't have a lot of space in my car. I could fit the ekx18sp in there but just barely. What do you think of the 15sp? Do you think I will regret not getting the 18?
+Tal Hod As I was reading and before I got to the question of the 15sp, I already was writing that in my head. Yes go with the EKX 15sp! You will be amazed what that 15 inch sub can do. :)
I just bought 2 of those same subs that you have their. I also got to say I'm very impressed with those and I love them.. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to set the equal settings on the sub while I'm dj'ing.. Would you have any advice on the best settings to put the EQ at let me know. And as far is tops I am also running the EV fifteen's like you have here
davieboy1970 are you familiar with gain structure settings? That will help you determine your eq settings but I run them normal and use proper gain structure
Any issues with limiting on those new EKX's? I have a pair of ZLX's that sound great but limit at a slightly lower volume than I'd like. Just want to make sure if I invest in the EKX's for my larger rig (250-500 ppl events) that I won't have the same issues.
***** Thanks for the question. I don't seem to have any issue pushing them. I guess it would all come down to the dynamics of the room. Hope that helps.
DB? best sound would be at 0 gain. This will be adjusted as need be but for best sound you want to run through a gain structure process with your system. Please see this video. ruclips.net/video/UW7v1uSqZQU/видео.html
Today I bought 2 EKX 12P. One is working fine and the other one din't even turn on at all. I'm going to my dealer first thing in the morning to deal with the problem. I was really exited to be one of the first in my town to own a EV EKX. Now I need to find out why one is not even turning on. Now I'm worried that my second speaker can potentially die on me at a actual gig.
Hey Jonathan, there is a "soft start" on these speakers. This means it has a delay once you flip the power button on before it starts to send signal or light up. I would wait a little longer to see if that might solve the problem your having. Otherwise did you try switching out the power cords? Let me know if you get it figured out. Maybe it is just luck of the draw but they have been pretty bullet proof for us. Happy EVe.
djjermusic update: Just as I suspected, the speaker din't work at all. I took it to my dealer, they tested the speaker and it din't work. They quickly did an exchange for another new EV EKX 12". My thoughts on this speakers, The thing I hate the most about this speakers is that it only comes with ONE handle bar. WTF? How are you suppose to carry this things around? This is a F@#$N joke. The second thing I hate is that they are not lightweight at all. They are only 5 LBS lighter compare to the original first generation Mackies SRM 450 (& if you are familiar with the mackies, you know they are build like a brick) . The EKX 12" do sound great and have a sweet digital display however that F%@$ one handle situation is a ridiculous pain in the butt.
Jonathan Saucedo Hey brother, I just shipped one of my 15ps back to the dealer. The speaker would power up but I couldn't get any sound. I spoke with EV, went through the manual several times, then finally gave up. I have another one being shipped so we will see what happens. That really blows form a quality control standpoint
Steven Stiegel Thank you for sharing Steven Stiegel . Sorry to hear that. My dealer told me that the speakers come with a 5 year manufacturer warranty. Could you please confirm that you also have a 5 year manufacture warranty. Seriously, SHAME ON YOU EV!
Hey everyone, thanks for all your comments and questions on this video. Here is a new video that will help understand the DSP and gain knobs a little more on the back of the unit. ruclips.net/video/YSwkuuweXUI/видео.html
Jonathan Rodriguez correct and this has some really detailed crossover settings such as matching a top with a sub cabinet so it knows exactly what it's working with and how it needs to adjust to work the best.
Hi DJ Jer Great video on the new EKX Series. I've been eyeballing the EKX-15sp Sub for some time now but have not seen anything until now. I currently own the ZXA1 12" Sub and I think it's horrible when it comes to power. I took a chance on it and went ahead and purchased it by reading multiple good reviews and not checking it out at a local store. When I received it I was blown away on sound quality but was disappointed on how easy it would clip even at low volume. I noticed the EKX 15 & 18 Sub have the same specs which has totally caught my attention when it comes to wattage and weight. Since you have the 18" were you able to crank it before it hit clipping? Is there a lot of power behind it? thanks DJ Ralphy/Chicago
DJ-RALPHY I also have the ZXA series and understand what you are talking about. These are so much different. Wood cabinet is tough but the cabinets are heavier then the ZXA. I have not had any problems with clipping. Let me know if you have any other questions and I hope you enjoy!
I'm seriously considering buying the EV EKX 115P speaker, how would you compare it to the JBL PRX 715? I haven't seen much on the subject but would love to hear how these hold their ground against prx's.
Helllo Dj Jer, Sorry to upset you, but could you help me to define which is the best Subwoofer option for me, I`m mobile DJ and my doubts is between EV EKX-15SP and Turbosound iQ15b or iQ18b. Best Regards and good work.
I have never heard of Turbosound so it would be hard for me to compare the two options. The EKX is very solid but then it also would depend on what top cabinet you are running with the sub. What are you using for tops?
Dj Jer, Thank you so much for your feedback, however I opted by EV EKX-18SP, great deep and presence sound. About my tops, i use Mackie Thump 15. Thank you so much, regards.
Great review man, Just got my Ekx system delivered today. Been at work so they haven't even been unboxed yet. I may be outreaching you since this is my first set of powered speakers. I love my old EVs but these are going to sav e me from another hernia repair. One question, are you going from the mixer to the sub or mixer to the mains?
I go mixer to subs. Less cords running up your poles or speaker stands. I learned that it doesn't matter. The cross over in each speaker basically gets the same signal, it just pulls what it needs. The thing I love with these speakers is you can notify each speaker what it is working with. Meaning the EKX15P top in the menu can select which sub it is working with for optimal sound quality throughout the system. very impressive stuff. Hope you like them as much as I do.
hey dj jer! i have 1 ekx 18sp and 2 xlz 15p what setting do i need to my top 100 hz or 120 hz? i dont see any ekx 18sp if i turn on the Sub from my ZLX it is only showing ELX18. Thanks!!
Limin Great. They had a nice full sound that filled the room. We have used these for two Proms now. 250 kids and 400 kids and you know they like their music loud. But it wasn't a bad loud :). Very clean and very satisfied!
Cerwin Vega is great for car audio. I am not sure how great it would be for pro audio and to compare it to EV again, I am very partial to EV because after doing my research years ago they still give the best bang for the buck.
I have a pair of zlx 12's and a pair of ekx 15's and one elx 115 sub and one thing I have noticed is when I run them through my 8 channel mixer instead of daisy chaining them i get far better bass response out out my sub!
hey Jeremy can you make a tutorial on how to hook to a mixer and how to properly connect 2 tops 15 and 2 18subs by the way this was very helpful i learned
Thanks for the review...you have one of the few...very few reviews of the ekx. For me it's a toss up between 2 etx-15p and 1 etx-18sp or 2 ekx-15p and 2 ekx-18sp. I'm leaning towards the ekx for a few reasons. They are lighter, newer, and cheaper. Also, they come with fans which makes a big difference in the outside during summertime (just ask someone who, like me, owns a part of elx's). The subs also come with the cardioid feature which is nice in itself. I just wish the ekx subs came with castors like the etx's but it's not a deal killer since they are lighter than the etx's. But thanks again for the review.
All I can tell you is what I know about my EKX-12p boxes. I don't own RCF so I can't compare side by side. What I can say is I have heard RCF and they have a great reputation but not sure if it creates the full sound that I get and want out of my EKX. I did a ton of research to find the best option for me and EKX and ETX won me over. They are so solid.
I forgot to add, I am about cleanliness and looks. I am not a big fan of the sharp edges and roughness of the design of the RCF. I love the smoothness and softness of the EV lines. That is just a personal preference.
hey DjJer I just discovered you on RUclips. youre Chauvets version of Brian Redd for ADJ lol. except much more diverse im your knowledge IMO. anyways I'm really enjoying all the free education. thank you
I just brought 1 ekx18sp and I'm not sure that it's worth 1k...... It sounds great at medium volume but when you crank it, it limits and doesn't get any louder. It's an updated Elx118 with better cab coating and dsp. If you are planning to buy 1 I would go for the etx18sp, but these would great if you were buying 2. Overall it's a great sub just doesn't have the in your chest bass, good weight and very portable!
Mr. Jace would you mind expanding? Higher performer in what sense? Does it perform 30% better (its 30% more pricey than the ekx) Today I had the opportunity to test both the JBL PRX718xlf and ev ekx 18sp. Have to say I really enjoyed the ekx. Sound wise it gave the prx a run for it's money!
Joji George jbl will go much lower in bass response. It's a deeper bass where the ev is more rounded. Ev does sound good, the prx is a mid level line, better driver with two amps powering each voice coil. If you like the ev , it is a good value for the price, the prx is built more solid.
I can’t believe how much lighter this is compared to a KW181...it felt too light imo. I could easily carry the 18” without it hurting my back...I dunno if it’s just made cheap or what it literally felt like a cardboard box compared to my KW181 which carrying will hurt your back but thank god for casters this EKX I can just one hand this thing all day.
Ok, after doing some tweaking....... I put this sub in Live Mode and man this thing knocks!!!! I can't wait to get a second one. Great buy! Live Mode allows the sub to go really loud. It's up there with the KW181......
I you talking about wireless audio signal? We have used wireless but to me it still seems unstable. We invested around $1300 in IEM by Sehnhieser and wasn't all that impressed.
Hi, to demonstrante the sound of the speakers you have to choose more sofisticate music than rap.Rap is not even a music there’s only speaking and drumming so it is not apropriate to hear the quality of your beautiful New system.
First Thing Next Month I Will Be Purchasing. Thanks For The Review You Really Sold Me On Them
Whats the differance with using the EKX 15s instead of using the EKX 12s?? The 15s are alot Heavier to be lifting on & off the Speaker Stand or Pole. is there a differance in sound??

crazy there's only a $100 difference between the 12 and 15 tops.
Thank you for showing us the new speaker line from EV
Hi, DJer, I would like you to show all the set up from the power speakers to mixer as well please. Thanks.
Torn Between the QSC kw181 or an EKX 18SP…. What do you recommend….? And thanks!!
I think both are great options but if you are doing a side by side comparison I would recommend the ETX18s.
Hi my friend! I am doing dj in korea! I'm currently using two Ev-zlx15p at the party. But I'm feeling the limits of the speakers! @Djjer, so you're saying that the signal from the mixer is a stereo signal vs daisy chaining the sub to one of the tops?
thunderkat9503 if that is how the mixer is setup. depending on the mixer and the settings you have set for it.
Still happy with your purchase? Im about ready to order the same setup you have.. just wondering thanks
Did you connect the top speaker out put to the subwoofer input?
I typically plug into the sub then up to the top. This creates better cable management. Does that makes sense ?
@@djjermusic Yes, I watched some videos and they did the same thing that first mixer output to subwoofer input, then subwoofer output to the input of the loudspeaker.
So for hookup, did you come out of your mixer via XLR and then into the sub and out from it to the 15" top or how did you do it?
You got it! please see video ruclips.net/video/iRw1F-tC_v4/видео.html
I have the sub with the 15zlx Powered speakers and I have both tops connected to the sub. It has added some serious Depth to my sound. I am a wedding dj. I would love to have 2 but having 1 70 lbs sub is good enough.

Any issues with running line in direct to the sub then from sub outputing to the tops?
No since it has built in eq and crossovers. Just keep in mind these are parametric eqs and will limit you compared to using a mixer.
Hey Jeremy,

+Tal Hod As I was reading and before I got to the question of the 15sp, I already was writing that in my head. Yes go with the EKX 15sp! You will be amazed what that 15 inch sub can do. :)

I did a party with 260 people recently with one ekx 18sp. I only just made it. Definitely would have been nicer with 2 subs.
Is there a preferred db to run this combination at?
DB? best sound would be at 0 gain. This will be adjusted as need be but for best sound you want to run through a gain structure process with your system. Please see this video.

Are cabinets painted wood, tuffcoat (line-X) wood, or black plastic?
Do the covers of the ekx15 fit the elx15p. They look identical in shape
That is a great question and I couldn't tell you. I am sorry.
What kind of speaker cables are you using to connect the PA Speaker to the Sub?
Stefon Hickson we love the xlr cables from NLFX. they also come with an amazing warranty.
I'm seriously considering buying the EV EKX 115P speaker, how would you compare it to the JBL PRX 715? I haven't seen much on the subject but would love to hear how these hold their ground against prx's.
This would be very interesting for me too - did you already find out - planning to buy Jbl Prx (18 sub, 15 Top) or EV EKx - what you think ?
Its Like: JBL PRX vs EKX and JBL SRX vs ETX. Not directly but just like BMW & Mercedes Benz
Helllo Dj Jer,
Sorry to upset you, but could you help me to define which is the best Subwoofer option for me, I`m mobile DJ and my doubts is between EV EKX-15SP and Turbosound iQ15b or iQ18b.
Dont forget about the video i really appreciated thanx jeremy its bc my gig is coming up and i really need to
+Avini Milan Thanks for your patience. Here is the video you requested. Let me know if this helps.

Awesome video Jer! Very helpful. I need a set!
hey dj jer! i have 1 ekx 18sp and 2 xlz 15p what setting do i need to my top 100 hz or 120 hz? i dont see any ekx 18sp if i turn on the Sub from my ZLX it is only showing ELX18. Thanks!!
120Hz is a good basic crossover option. Does that help?
it sounds great thanks DJ Jer!
How did the ekx subs and top do last night?
Limin Great. They had a nice full sound that filled the room. We have used these for two Proms now. 250 kids and 400 kids and you know they like their music loud. But it wasn't a bad loud :). Very clean and very satisfied!
djjermusic hi jer. did you used one or two pairs of 15s + 18s for the 400 kids prom?
searchingrecords
One pair of 15s and 1 pair of 18s.
Do you prefer the EV series over the Cerwin Vega 1500x & 1800x?
Cerwin Vega is great for car audio. I am not sure how great it would be for pro audio and to compare it to EV again, I am very partial to EV because after doing my research years ago they still give the best bang for the buck.
I have a pair of zlx 12's and a pair of ekx 15's and one elx 115 sub and one thing I have noticed is when I run them through my 8 channel mixer instead of daisy chaining them i get far better bass response out out my sub!
thunderkat9503 my guess would be the subs are processing stereo instead of mono. so when the play both sides of stereo your getting your full sound.
hey Jeremy can you make a tutorial on how to hook to a mixer and how to properly connect 2 tops 15 and 2 18subs by the way this was very helpful i learned
+Avini Milan Will do! I will get this out this week for you.
+djjermusic thank you i really appreciate it
I have 4-EKX 18sp and a pair of KLA12 for mid, sounds good.
Great review Jeremy. Love EV products.
What are your thoughts on EKX-12p vs RCF 712a mkii?
All I can tell you is what I know about my EKX-12p boxes. I don't own RCF so I can't compare side by side. What I can say is I have heard RCF and they have a great reputation but not sure if it creates the full sound that I get and want out of my EKX. I did a ton of research to find the best option for me and EKX and ETX won me over. They are so solid.
I forgot to add, I am about cleanliness and looks. I am not a big fan of the sharp edges and roughness of the design of the RCF. I love the smoothness and softness of the EV lines. That is just a personal preference.
dj jer rocks very helpful videos keep up the great work
Thank you for your kind words. always here to help
Good video......tempted........I think i need a set of those.
hey DjJer I just discovered you on RUclips. youre Chauvets version of Brian Redd for ADJ lol. except much more diverse im your knowledge IMO.
anyways I'm really enjoying all the free education. thank you
Sorry I missed this message. Thanks for the feedback. I will do my best to keep them coming.
Bro could i buy those for just music in my house
you sure could but might be overkill for a house unless you really like to party ;). Just make sure you invite the neighbors over.
k thanks
I just brought 1 ekx18sp and I'm not sure that it's worth 1k...... It sounds great at medium volume but when you crank it, it limits and doesn't get any louder. It's an updated Elx118 with better cab coating and dsp. If you are planning to buy 1 I would go for the etx18sp, but these would great if you were buying 2. Overall it's a great sub just doesn't have the in your chest bass, good weight and very portable!
Would you recommend this or the jbl prx 718xlf?
Joji George the jbl prx718xlf is a higher performer sub. You will get more from it compare to these ekx sub.
Joji George the jbl goes lower due to the larger cab but volume wise, they are about the same.
KW uses a stupid heavy magnate. The EKX sub is great for mobile and lifting.
djjermusic Oh I’m sure but my KW181 hits harder than the EKX...now the ETX would be a better comparison. I haven’t tested those two yet.
@@DjTecniq I love my ETX. :)
djjermusic how’s the weight on the ETX?
@@DjTecniq Not sure but it's on their website I think.
I think the 15" looks stupid on top of an 18" sub. Maybe you should put it on top of a 21" sub?
Ok, after doing some tweaking....... I put this sub in Live Mode and man this thing knocks!!!! I can't wait to get a second one. Great buy! Live Mode allows the sub to go really loud. It's up there with the KW181......
i disagree. the 181's go louder. They have more power.
you ever thinking going wireless
I you talking about wireless audio signal? We have used wireless but to me it still seems unstable. We invested around $1300 in IEM by Sehnhieser and wasn't all that impressed.
sweet
Hi, to demonstrante the sound of the speakers you have to choose more sofisticate music than rap.Rap is not even a music there’s only speaking and drumming so it is not apropriate to hear the quality of your beautiful New system.
