Red Letter Media's review make this movie sound amazing. I can't wait to see it. I'm really surprised to hear Giovanni Rabisi was the DP. It's rare for an actor to go directly into the camera department. The trailer looks super creepy. Barbara Hershey's in it too! I remember her from the 1982 film The Entity.
Willa Fitzgerald is in the cast of "Reacher" and she played the the young version of Madeline in the Mike Flanagan Netflix series "The Fall of the House of Usher".
i really do hope you go into a deep dive for this film. bc even tho i had fun with it, I was hoping the ending was going go into a different direction. I'll share my thoughts in that future video since i don't want to leave any spoilers in the comments.
The other characters..the cops made the situation more realistic or made the female lead more human..a the serial killer is the female lead.not the male lead..In the beginning..there was a text narration that this was a story about a serial killer.. I just realize..the female is the serial killer..You are exactly right, that they're mess up people..Well put.
strange darling movie directly targets feminism. spoiler: there is no need for the games the killer plays in the hotel room, she could have given the rape drug with a drink, or she could have used an electric gun. with these scenes, an attempt was made to refute women's right to say no whenever they want during sex. with the dialogues between the police officers, an attempt was made to refute the complaints of women whose opinions are not taken into consideration, not only in the police force but in every sector of the business world. just like the male police, when it is understood that the woman is not a victim but a murderer, the writer sees us all as 'fucking bitch'es.
It does come across as pretentious to flaunt the "shot on 35mm film" card while overlooking a media trigger warning, especially when the film's content has the potential to be deeply unsettling. Prioritizing style over substance like that can feel out of touch with the audience's needs, especially when the subject matter is so charged. A trigger warning would show a greater level of care and consideration for how the film might impact viewers, rather than just focusing on the technical details.
*SPOILERS FOR THE FILM. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED* 🚨 I’ve liked Willa Fitzgerald since Scream: the tv series. I hadn’t seen her in anything since she was on that show. (I had missed the other stuff that she was doing) I remember thinking “Man, this show is great. It would be so cool to see her play a villain. I wish she were a villain.” The film industry 8 years later: *Comes out with this gem* Long story short: I enjoyed seeing her as a villain and am ready to watch the movie a third time!
Awesome review, great energy and am seriously loving your insights. Fantastic channel, keep doing what you're doing 👏🏻
