@@mrkartoffelyeah8077 I increased the framerate and disabled vsync but my system could only render around 135 fps and then I simply waited and waited and maybe the 20th ball bounced barely enough that I was able to catch it by crouching at the edge. I just finished the game today. It was pretty easy, although sometimes I really couldn't figure out where to go or what to do at some areas. So I had to use this video a couple of times. I have to say it was for the most part easier than other full-game portal mods though. Usually I have to rely on play throughs a lot more.
So... Timeline wise, this is obviously a prequel of sorts to Portal 2, but a sequel to Portal 1. Portal Stories: Mel, I don't know where that lands.. but I'd guess sometime after Portal 2. I love how you actually get to jump into different tests in the surface levels! That's something I always wished we got more of in Portal 2. Incredible game and definitely on the same level as 2 and Mel imho. After watching the whole thing: Okay, I'm calling this Portal: Rafters as a codename because you basically spend most of the game in the old Aperture/new Aperture rafters (Really cool because Chell mostly sees the central part of new and old Aperture, and it's great to see the actual surface for once). Love the art direction, the characters are perfect and the twist was really good. Game designer did a great job on this! Feels like another legitimate Portal game. The new mechanics were cool and I wish they saw more use only because they looked neat to play around with- I'm head cannoning The Aperture Laser Redirection Cube™️ and The Aperture Wind Chutes™️. And I like the distinction between Chell who is more railroaded by GlaDOS and Wheatley and the protagonist here who gets to explore more of the facility. It feels like a true engineering team. If I were to codename each portal 'team', it would be: Mel = The Saviours of Aperture, who stop it from completely flooding. Chell = The Hero of Aperture, who keeps the personalities in check. (I don't know their name) = The Engineers of Aperture, who make sure it doesn't just fall apart. Note: If they aren't already named, I'd call the protagonist something that rhymes with the other's names as there's clearly a theme going on there... Some recommendations: Adele and Belle Great job dev team! ❤
Portal Stories: Mel is also in between Portal 1 and 2, which is hinted as you shut down AEGIS, it's said that AEGIS was also trying to eliminate GLaDOS and in the cutscene after the credits you can also see that the AEGIS system used the last of it's power to wake up test subject #001, who is Chell, and you can hear "You have been in suspension for 999999..."

4/5 Game. Would have been 5/5 but the ending just left a lot to be desired i guess. As for this game's place in the portal timeline? I'd say that it directly comes before Portal Stories Mel, as it's possible the explosion of the Spire was the thing that woke up Mel in Chapter 2. So would this be Portal 1.25 or Portal 1.4? (Mel would be Portal 1.5).
Agreed. Im quite dissapointed with the ending, i wish it would be more clarified i guess. Wait so I just finished the game and im confused. Was the spine on the moon this whole time? Or you got teleported to the moon when the teleporter malfunctioned?
You broke it so it malfunctioned and teleported the whole spire and everything and everyone in it to the moon, we saw it on the earth surface earlier in the game so I'm pretty sure that's what happened
51:31 Room 10 with the deteriorated-looking portal gun... That is NOT how I crossed the pond. I jumped up into a transverse tractor beam (like the one at 51:06, only further to the right), then kept shifting the beam by repositing my portal a little bit to the left until I was across.
This mod is good, not perfect but I did enjoy it a lot. The story is okay, it’s just a bit similar to the original Portal 2, and the ending is just sad. The main character ended up being irrelevant, she doesn’t even have a name. Getting teleported to the moon and being put on stasis is just tragic (unlike Mel in Portal Stories Mel who could successfully get out of Aperture Science). However, I do love the voice acting and humor. My biggest disappointment is that while the surface is finally being explored in a Portal game, they barely showed anything special up there. Just imagine the possibilities of Half-Life meeting Portal, I think that would be fun. I wished they could have added more test chamber mechanics though. If I am not mistaken, the power switch, the disposal tube and the Portal laser cubes are the only ones that are original. I do love the puzzles, I think the difficulty is moderate, not crazy hard like Portal Reloaded so I completed it without looking at the guides which is a good thing, overall experience is solid. 7.5/10
1:42:00 ...I watched this to find out how to REALLY solve this and this makes me feel silly xD I knew that both cubes could receive and output the laser, but it didn't click. I ended up solving it with cheeky portal placements.

no way lol, you too a gap of 64 years between portal 1 and 2, the facility was decayed a lot more than that in my opinion. also, after portal revolution, portal stories MEL happened
This game is like a mixture of portal 1 & 2 which I think it is like because it looks like what happened after portal one so I’m thinking it takes place after portal one. That’s what I think I think that’s true.
Dude, I made up the most absurd solution for the level with the conveyor belt of blocks. I didn't realize you could place the portal on that wall at 22:55, I guess because the light was shining on it so I didn't think it was a white wall and the whole level is gray walls. I was so stuck I ended up solving it by stacking the cubes next to the conveyor belt as high as you possibly can in the game (hold cube and jump and stack), then going around, crouching down to reach one of the cubes, then bringing it to the bridge barricade and using that to jump on the railing and go around. I was so incredulous that it was intentional that I came here to check how it's supposed to be done.
So glad to see the most rewatched part of this was 3:28 because I gave up on this bit multiple times over the span of a couple months until I figured it out.
from chapter 2 on, stirling reveals his real voice from chapter 4 on, you get the first dual portal device from chapter 6 on, you get the second dual portal device
SOME THOUGHTS: I dont really get how Emilia was clowning Sterling for his abandonment issues, as Sterling clearly seemed to think highly of her as his mother and friend. She goes on to disreagrd him as just something who cleaned up the mess, pinning his past admiration and whole existence as irrelevant. I thought she mightve turned into a bad guy aswell after the fight with the energy i got from those lines, but only briefly. I would say the change between nice Sterling to threat Sterling was too quick. It feels like its almost just out of the blue. He goes from thanking you (then being passive aggressive), to normal Sterling, and then to "im gonna kill you" Sterling. I do understand the disregard for human life is a big trait of Sterling's. He tells you to be careful so he doesnt have to clean up your blood. He saved you cause he needed you. His whole goal is to being back GladOS knowing what she had done. I just dont like how they pull the whole moron thing again.... just without outright saying it. Let mebe honest, Stirling could beat Wheately (in a metaphorical fistfight) anyday, but his dialoge at times seems to dumb him down. I guess it works because he used to be a vaccum cleaner, but being the moron was wheately's whole Shtick. Sterling's voice sounds like my old theater director. If Emilia was revealed to once be human later, that might've been cool. They also could've made it so that her memories were wiped, as apreture likely would find that the cores keeping the knowledge of being a human would be a bit more troublesome than desired. This could make a dramatic realization scene (kind of like GladOS), and the realization that she indirectly helped GladOS' creation. Who's voice on the apreture team was given so Sterling could speak? Also could add puzzle peices hinting of what Emilia did before the upload and memory wipe. Sterling is a bottom. I LOVE the not happy ending. The ending hits HARD. You're left wondering what exactly happened to the other cores. You did what was right in stopping the fixing of GladOS, and yet in the end you never get to reap your reward, as in stopping this massive evil, there is still a problem of the decaying unmanaged facility that really makes the ending unfulfilled. You dont get to leave. I love that.
@glp Its work! only early save can help me. If you encounter the same difficulties, try loading an earlier save, and also try experimenting with the gel spot using different levels and wall heights
Of course it can feel a bit rough at times. The difficulty is uneven IMO and sometimes it can feel kinda rushed. I'd wish they've included more puzzles using the new mechanics and fewer of the initial chambers with just the blue portal. Getting things to Valve-like levels require lots of effort, planning, and money which a small dev team simply can't have access to. For a free mod though it is a fantastic effort, with amazing art and graphics quality. As raw puzzle-solving goes however Portal Reloaded is still my favourite. Headache-inducing but sooo good.

@@mrkartoffelyeah8077 I increased the framerate and disabled vsync but my system could only render around 135 fps and then I simply waited and waited and maybe the 20th ball bounced barely enough that I was able to catch it by crouching at the edge. I think this test is broken and doesn't usually work unless your system can run 200+ fps while waiting for the ball to bounce.
@@mrkartoffelyeah8077 Thanks! Increasing the framerate fixed it for me!

They could of literally just made this a official portal prequel and paid these guys. So damn good for a mod.
I just finished the game today. It was pretty easy, although sometimes I really couldn't figure out where to go or what to do at some areas. So I had to use this video a couple of times.
I have to say it was for the most part easier than other full-game portal mods though. Usually I have to rely on play throughs a lot more.

@@nicogh1spy let me rephrase that than: for the most part it was pretty easy.
I needed help from outside a lot less than usual
Everything's easy with a walkthrough
So does the ending means there might be sequel or was it just a sad little ending?
i reckon there wont be a sequel, took about 5 years to have this. its a great addition to the portal verse same like Mel
Well, the ending was somewhat emotional as Emilia Conly drags the protagonist back into stasis, but Stirling may have been killed by that explosion.
Thanks for spoiling it numb nuts
@@vasporwave1752 The post credit scene I saw is the one at the end of this video.

1:54:46 the way emilia giggles is so funny bro
I didn't know you could beat it in just 2 hours.
Portal games are very short when you know the solution to the puzzles
After watching the whole thing:
Okay, I'm calling this Portal: Rafters as a codename because you basically spend most of the game in the old Aperture/new Aperture rafters (Really cool because Chell mostly sees the central part of new and old Aperture, and it's great to see the actual surface for once).
If I were to codename each portal 'team', it would be:
Mel = The Saviours of Aperture, who stop it from completely flooding.
Some recommendations: Adele and Belle
Great job dev team! ❤
As far as I know, Portal Stories: Mel is a prequel to original Portal 1. Or maybe I am wrong.
It takes place 36 yers after Portal 1
It Has been stated in the beggining
Thank you very much without this walkthrough I wouldn't have made it to the end, it's quite a complicated puzzle to solve the first time.
51:23
Help, what should I do if I have already thrown the ball to the other side first? I can't use a vortex without a ball. That's why I can't jump over. You can't take a new ball anymore!

I wish they would do 2nd game of this mod, and this is actually might become true, because i feel like they left us the true sign of the plot of this game being quite unfinished. I really wish this is not the end of this amazing game
@@taukor6905 Yeah i wish there would be a second game but there wouldn't really be much to go off of from the first game since you're in space with a small bit of Aperture and i'm sure that bit doesn't have something to help the player breathe in space.
Nah, they have content, like trying to go back to earth after waking up for the stasis, wait a few months and we surely will have some teaser/trailer for it, I can see the passion and effort put in this, they will give it a worthy end @@RealWingGaster

The mod you're thinking of is "Portal Stories: Mel".
@@jessica-mariegervais9800 thanks
Awesome video! How did you manage to record the gameplay?
With a recording software maybe?

1:28:36 basically anyone seeing or hearing themselves from the past and having cringe attack💀💀💀
So glad to see the most rewatched part of this was 3:28 because I gave up on this bit multiple times over the span of a couple months until I figured it out.
i watch and try to beat portal 2 back in the 360 days and it was fun
from chapter 2 on, stirling reveals his real voice
from chapter 4 on, you get the first dual portal device
from chapter 6 on, you get the second dual portal device
SOME THOUGHTS:
I dont really get how Emilia was clowning Sterling for his abandonment issues, as Sterling clearly seemed to think highly of her as his mother and friend.

If you encounter the same difficulties, try loading an earlier save, and also try experimenting with the gel spot using different levels and wall heights
cool that one of surface's first chambers is that one from portal 1 with momentum

@@4m0dbecause it’s not actually canon to the base game?
after beating the game then watching this I realize that I did a few chambers completely different but got the same result lol.
Its a new game or just graphic mod ? Like new levels that we never played before
