    Before pulling anything apart I'd suggest having a look around and trying to figure out what's going on.
    Dry the boot out, put some newspaper down and see where the newspaper gets wet first.
    If it's along the rear edge of the boot, chances are that the leak is in the tailgate or lights. If it's the sides it's probably the seams or the sealant at the edges of the roof.
    If your rear footwells are also wet it's almost certain that it's the sealant at the edge of the roof that's split.

  • @ELWBB
    @ELWBB Год назад +5

    For me it was the welds/seems behind the boot hinges. For some reason Honda thought it would be smart to have them end just below the roof molding so all the water erodes these joints. Some black flexible sealant filled up those cracks nicely.

  • @mickl8212
    @mickl8212 3 года назад +6

    Seal: The cracked sealer at the end of the roof gutter trims. The boot lid wiring harness boots. The rear lights in the boot lid under that hoooooge plastic cover that was a git to get off.
    Also make sure the drain hole next to the fuel filler neck isn't blocked.
    My 2.2 is exactly the same as yours, filled the boot right up with water. I spent hours trying to sort it, thought I had fixed it, no leak for months, then all of a sudden, leaking again. I left the lower carpet out where the spare wheel sits so I could spot any more leaks. I'm now tempted to drill a hole in the wheel well to drain the water away as I can't be arsed to pull it all apart again as it's my workhorse.

      @@FNLEW drilling the hole?
      If you think about it, how have they stopped your doors from filling up with water? Drain holes at the bottom. It's not like there's water gushing in just the odd drip that's getting in.
      Anyway, I hope you fix it proper, if not, drilling a hole is always an option 😉

    I tracked my 2006 civic 1.8 leak down to the spoiler seal. It then came in via the rear lights compartments. Easy fix for me was to use Granville black silicone sealent adhesive and ran a thin layer over the rubber seal that joined the rear window to the spoiler. £3.75 cheap fix.

    My fn2 only leaks when its rain or snow has frozen to to the roof and ive narrowed it down to that seal under the roof strip as i noticed water running down the top of the rear suspension strut into the boot.
    Im going to (when the weather's better) take off the roof strip, treat it with Rustkins Rust Converter then use black auto silicone sealer then paint over the silicone with nighthawk black touch up paint then refit the roor strip

As this week the weather is sunny and hot 27°C 🔥 🥵 in Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 ,it no better of a time to fix the leak I find each winter in the car and water in the spare wheel well. Also I have had to take the rubber drain plug out of the bottom of my rear passenger door and drain about 2 pints of water that gathered in the inside of the door. Dirt and grime had it clogged up and an unreal amount of water was drained out of it. Crazy. But anyway I'm starting my repairs as I follow ur video step by step. Cheers pal 👍

    I had a Focus ST MK2 that had a bad leak i ended up stripping the whole car out sealing the whole back end with some marine grade sealant and a full deap clean and replacement used carpet as the old one was rank and mouldy. No more leaks 👍🏼 check everywhere for mould as it can grow behind everything once your car has a leak because of the moisture.

    Next time use a polymer sealant, good for automotive applications. Sikaflex or m&s sealant. It's used on motorhomes also, to seal roof lights etc. It will last much much longer and seal better than bathroom sealant. Also bathroom sealant may only be internal use so may not last as well. Black sikaflex 👍

    Hey Lew! I have a 2008 fk2 and some time in the future (when I’ve got the budget) I need to change the rear bumpers (current one is a bit damaged). I was wondering if you’ve ever had to take off the your bumpers before and how? Cheers mate!

      Cheers. I poured water on left brake light and not been able to remove left hand inside trim but can feel left hand bottom where Jack sits, then carpets wet then dripping on to boot floor. I have a gap where the c pillar panel meets the brake light so I wonder if someone's bumped the rear of car to cause brake light not to sit flush with body panels

      @@FNLEW could you just run a transparent thin layer of sealant or caulk accross the roof bars on either side and also along the seals near the boot? That would save time stripping out the entire boot area.

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  2 года назад +1

      @@CarlosWillis it could but there's other areas it can come through. What you have to think is I had to strip it all to identify where the leaks were. After watching this video you now know some common locations to try without stripping the interior. Unfortunately I had to find them first hand. Also, a common place is through the grommets in the boot lid. So that's another reason to strip that area.
