  • LIFE AFTER DIETS PODCAST EPISODE 55 - BUT WHY CAN SOME PEOPLE CONTROL THEIR WEIGHT?
The "anti-diet" and "diets don't work" messages can be very empowering for many people, but how do we reconcile these ideas when there seem to be people that do, in fact, diet and lose weight? In this episode, we discuss:
Dieting as a physical trauma stored by the body
Biology of weight set point and safety
    Psychology tendencies toward one-track thinking
“Diets Don’t Work” vs “Do Diets Work For Me?”
Envy as “I think I am capable of something”
    What is enough?

The comment about many men I have also observed. They generally don't feel judged for being overweight by a few pounds. They also gain weight centrally and so have fewer issues with clothing!

So interesting. For me I can be consistently disciplined on a variety of other topics so I hadn’t considered some of the psychology you’re mentioning so it makes a lot of sense even if things seem to be working a bit differently for me.

I think people who naturally eat less and feel satisfied have different hunger cues. Hormones responses are individual. Genetically we are all descendents of the people who could cram large amounts of food when they had it and had been able to store it.
