I dearly love the other versions of this song sung by other singers, and I have the utmost respect for those singers, but I like this version the best. Catherine MacLellan truly captures the spirit of her father's song.
I've always liked this song. There's something special about its simplicity and innocence and it seems reminiscent of a gentler age. Today I looked it up on RUclips and played Anne Murray's version. I always thought this was a happy song, but I'd never really listened to the words before, until now, and after listening to the lyrics properly, I think it's just about one of the saddest songs I've ever heard! I wanted to find out if Anne Murray had written this song about something that had happened in her life, but then I found out it was written by a man called Gene MacLellan. When I read about him I was impressed and a little awestruck that he had written something so intensely sad, romantic and profound. Then when I learned that he had killed himself in 1995 I was truly shocked. This song has taken on a new meaning. In this video you can see it on her face. This song is a big deal. He lives on in this song.
I loved her father and his songs . Every time I hear Snowbird , it gets to me. I think it is NS. theme song . She is also amazing , keep it up for N.S.
I love this. My two favorite versions of this song is this one and one that featured Bahamas and Kathleen Edwards in a CBC Radio show. I think it's the slowed down pace that serves this song perfectly. Catherine is magical.
*Just found this artist. Was going through her channel / songs. I enjoyed a lot of them. Saw this video and wasn't sure if this was a cover or just another song with the same title. Had to check. Then WOW and WHAM - a couple of tears right from the beginning. THIS song has to be done beautifully like this. Did NOT expect that. Very rare find. Then read her dad wrote this song. I get it now and I'm mind blown...*
Absolutely wonder version of one of the best songs ever written! Wow, Gene, I wish you would have stuck around longer, I would love to have heard you and your daughter sing this together!
As much as I love Anne Murray's singing, I have to say, I prefer this version over her's. The lyric's are very sad and this is demonstrated in how slowly it's down and highlights the essence of this song. Bravo, Catharine.
I can’t get over the way this version puts the emotion right out there in front, as opposed to the pop music happy version that we grew up with. No disrespect to Anne, it’s just that this seems so authentic.
Great version. The daughter of the original writer? Yup! ...I like this slower version -more contemplative, and a bit sorrowful. Anne Murray's rendition, great voice that she had, feels almost joyful, a bit rushed, and ends too suddenly, contrasting with the content of the words.
I was curious as to who wrote Songbird after listening to the Anne Murray version. I read that it was written by Catherine's Dad so the research brought me here. It's a wonderful version by Catherine & the artist playing with her. Beautiful..
This would sound much better if the synthesizer were playing the same tempo as they are singing. They have great voices but the synthesizer takes from it.

Yes
SO BEAUTIFUL
Beautiful voice... and beautiful presentation...
WOW is all I can say amazing voice. Why is she not more famous
Definitely my favourite version of this song! What an amazing singer! Her father must be proud looking down on her! Keep up the great work Catherine!
Yes, Catherine does this song best. And of all her recordings of this song, this is the best recording. Chris Gauthier is exquisite on the guitar.
By far my favorite version I have ever heard of this song.
Saw her perform two years at Frostival in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Wonderful performance and very moving tribute to her Dad.
So very beautiful Catherine. I'm sure your dad would have tears in his eyes if he saw this video.
Gorgeous voice, my favorite rendition
She sings this with such tenderness and reminiscence. 💜
Ms Catherine, you are an absolute SUPERSTAR!!

I'd like to hear Andrea Bocelli do a cover of this song. Perhaps on his next album.
Agreed it is an incredibly profound song. I would have loved to have met Gene.
Tears in my eyes listening to this. This is the true rendition of the song - unlike those other 'popular' versions. Nice one Catherine!
Listen to his daughter singing his song .
What a beautiful version.
Just lovely.
I loved her father and his songs . Every time I hear Snowbird , it gets to me. I think it is NS. theme song . She is also amazing ,
keep it up for N.S.
please bring these days back

What a beuatiful voice!!!! Just heard it for the first time today.A pleasant surprize.Gene would be very happy with this performance.
A tear with an ache in my heart for this one.
Beautiful Charming!
Thank you Catherine MacLellan. Voice of an angel.
definitely the truest, saddest, most beautiful version
I grew up with this song and I love how Catherine sings it with ease and natural....
First time I've heard this version, absolutely buetifull.
Wonderful rendering of that song - thank you!
What a gorgeous version of this song.
haven't heard this song since I was a child. But tonight it made me shed a tear.Beautiful.Thank you Cathrine Maclellan.
Heartbreaking and beautiful. Her voice is a requiem for her father

I heard this song on the CBC this morning and it is the best version of it I've heard. He must be smiling.
Fantastic thank you so much
One of the greatest Canadian songs.
Very true !!!
Extremely beautiful !
Absolutely wonder version of one of the best songs ever written! Wow, Gene, I wish you would have stuck around longer, I would love to have heard you and your daughter sing this together!
Wow! what a beautiful version of this song. Her father would have been proud.
Wonderful version of this song.. the best I have heard!!
Beautifully sung with a lot of soul!
By far, the most beautiful version of this song I have ever heard. This is a combination like Gillian Welch and David Rawlings...
My God! Astounding version. She’s a chip off the block.
Hopefully not too much. Her dad suffered from depression for most of his life.
@@flemingcourt I can relate
sooo beautiful. ..I love your voice, could listen all night x
Incredible. What a voice, and nice accompaniment.
As much as I love Anne Murray's singing, I have to say, I prefer this version over her's. The lyric's are very sad and this is demonstrated in how slowly it's down and highlights the essence of this song. Bravo, Catharine.
Wow! Beautiful 🥰
Ethereal song sung to simple perfection...
Beautiful.
Magic version - fine accompaniment
What a great talent
Absolutely gorgeous.
Absolutely brilliant
Utterly beautiful.
I can’t get over the way this version puts the emotion right out there in front, as opposed to the pop music happy version that we grew up with. No disrespect to Anne, it’s just that this seems so authentic.
If I could like this a million times I would...
Absolutely beautiful...
Heartbreakingly beautiful!
just totally beautiful
love it!!!
beautiful version of this song
Hauntingly beautiful... he was tickling her vocal chords
As so many have said - Gene's little girl, Catherine, does it better than all others.
She's gorgeous.
the way it should have been, amazing voice and heart
Danke schön.
Always loved this song by Anne Murray, but this version is just so much better.
Very beautiful
I also think this is the best version of this song.
beautiful.
Amazing.. talented like her dad... and the image of him... Stella Shepard
She sure does look like her Dad.
Catherine Maclellan 's Verson of Snow Bird beats Anne Murray 's version by far I cry every time when I hear it on spotify
Most definitely. Anne Murray ruined it playing 100 mph.
Lovely ❤. I like her father's version, too. The song is a real heart wringer.
what a gorgeous beauty Catherine is
She's buetifull.
I always think of Jason Wilber, John Prine's longtime sideman, when I see Chris Gauthier accompany Catherine; incredible talent but so understated.
Yes, I love Chris.
wow... great
the definitive version
Bravo!!!
Her dad would have been proud of covering his songs!
I suspect that he IS proud
this is perfect at 430 in the October morning dark, my favorite part of the day thanks!!
A lovely way for you to greet the day. It's a wonderful recording.
If I was there I would give you a BIG HUG after that performance!!!Just great. She looks like a dark haired Diane Lane in some of the clips.
Nice
Much, much better than the OTT version by Anne Murray. This style is more suited to the real mood and feeling of the song.
Sorry, I just made the connection - her father was Gene MacLellan, wasn't he?
@RedwoodGeorge correct, sir
thanks.....
Great version. The daughter of the original writer? Yup! ...I like this slower version -more contemplative, and a bit sorrowful. Anne Murray's rendition, great voice that she had, feels almost joyful, a bit rushed, and ends too suddenly, contrasting with the content of the words.
I like her father’s version the most, maybe it’s a bit personal but beneath that cheerful sounding country song is layered with regret and heartbreak.
Totally agree!
who's the guy?
Is this the songwriter’s daughter ?
Yes.
I was curious as to who wrote Songbird after listening to the Anne Murray version. I read that it was written by Catherine's Dad so the research brought me here. It's a wonderful version by Catherine & the artist playing with her. Beautiful..
Oops....Snowbird not Songbird.
Sadly, when her father Gene took his own life, it was she who found him. You can hear that pain in her voice.
Yes, I had read that. What a horror for a young child.
I'm not sure if this sounds like Father John Misty or if FJM is sounding like this
Whatever happened to Chris Gauthier?
This is my favorite version of this song...better than Anne Murray and Chet Atkins in my opinion.
Oops it is his daughter..., so wonderful for them both
her take on this song is different from the fauthor's
And she's pretty too.
Nice....Snowbird with a Hawiian feel.
How I wish this was Gene's daughter, great player helper her... beautiful
She is Gene's daughter ...
ITS LIKE LISTENING BACK TO THE 50S
What a song to avoid, yet, Gene Junior, you made us proud as Canadians......
who is singing and playing with her ?
Chris Gauthier
He's wonderful.
This would sound much better if the synthesizer were playing the same tempo as they are singing. They have great voices but the synthesizer takes from it.
Angie Veri I know you posted this 3 years ago, but what synthesizer are you hearing.....?
Karen Carpenter.
