- When Dream Theater visited Trondheim, Norway, we got to sit down with two of the founders of the band, John Petrucci and John Myung. This was quite a special day for us, as Dream Theater for the first time ever played in the city where the origins of Dream Theater World started out. DTNorway had its homebase in this city for many years, and the people behind DTNorway took initiative to start Dream Theater World. Apologize for the audio quality, we did what we could with what we had.

So much respect between JP and JM. Watch how JP does not let his ego take over the entire conversation and looks like JM from time to time to give him an opportunity to collect his thoughts and give him a chance a speak his mind as well.

With Dream Theater, it's not just the music, the musicianship, the virtuous-tic playing and the song writing; those are all great things. But it just goes to another level when you have guys who are so humble and genuinely kind people who clearly love and are passionate about what they do. I'm very proud to be have been a loyal fan for over two decades. Thanks so much for this interview, it was great!!

Its super cool to hear John Myung in a lengthy interview, its obviously a treat for all of us, especially for some of us that followed DT since WDADU (or even Majesty!).

At 01:34, I seriously expected John Petrucci to say "I was kinda surprised that you can talk, Myung".
What I love about this interview the most is you can see how much respect JP is giving JM whenever JM talks. You can see how much intensity there is when he's listening, kind of like, "He doesn't speak often, but when it does, you know you want to hear every word." Love DT and loved this interview!
I suspect JM would have been an awesome therapist (not joking although it sounds like a joke). If you pay attention to him while JP is answering questions, you can see his constant facial reactions to JP's words. He never zones out and seems extremely focused on what's being said, even though he almost never speaks.

Great interview, thanks for sharing. I saw Dream Theater in Glasgow in April, it was amazing. Last time I saw them playing live was in 1997 (shame on me)!

Really great interview. These guys just comes across as the most sincere, humble and nice guys in all the music industry, as they always have. Will be a long time until we hear any new music from them though, with all the touring ahead, but I can't imagine it won't be worth the wait.

John Petrucci is such a nice and down to earth person! The way he gives John Myubg space to talk and sometimes it looks like he's encouraging him to express himself because he's not really feeling comfortable giving interviews.. Great guy!

I was at the Microsoft Theater yesterday watching this band that I love. Please respect the fact that they work so well together. There is a different culture at work here. Even after three generations, Korean culture is very strong. In the Korean culture, people are respected who don't speak. Not speaking means that the person is a good listener and is very mature. This comes from hundreds of years of both Confucianism and the teachings of Mencius, and it is engrained even within the blood of those that have been Americanized for two or three generations. He is super smart and to be respected. Their music is fabulous and contributes much to society, both Western and Eastern.

John Myung is about as laid back as you can be without being in a coma.

Great interview. Some of the questions I would've asked or would like to have been asked:
1. What's your take on the divided fan response to The Astonishing?
2. Is there a possibility of doing another raw sounding metal album like Train of Thought?
3. Has JP come across people talking about the synthetic drum sound and compression on Mangini's drums?
4. What the fuck is up with that drum sound anyway??
Apparently, their next album will be really heavy, and Petrucci will be using an 8 string :)
They have been saying that for years. I doubt it.

Yup. It was stated in the The Capt Meets John Petrucci interview. John said they gonna go back in the studio next year and making a very record again in the root of train of thought. Considering Mangini was in Annihilator before, this is pretty exciting.
They haven't started recording yet. That might change, although I hope not.
