I love how he's so comfortable saying: "Yeah I don't know the answer to that" When a statement is being made. An open mind like that seems like a rare occurrence on YT
I love this interview. I feel that John Petrucci often gets very miscast as a player. People often focus on him being this amazingly fast and technically proficient virtuoso guitarist. And don't get me wrong he is that and that's impressive enough on its own but he's more than that. He's also a player with a fantastic sense of melody and phrasing who can make the most beautiful chord progressions and some absolutely monstrous riffs. The guy is a true master of the guitar and he's also incredibly humble and comes off as a really nice cool guy.
The Captain needs to have Eric Johnson for an interview about gear secrets and what his tone inspirations are, please upvote this so the captain can see it :)
Play a Strat, mix of Marshall and Fender Amps, and roll off the treble.... It's not rocket science.... Those three things will get you 90% of the way there.

Some people actually enjoy the energy of shred and are able to, quite easily, feel the emotion and soul from fast stuff in the same way others, usually the one who scoff at anything about 8th notes, feel emotion from the slow stuff. What a superb interview ! John Petrucci is so generous with his time and information and Lee asked all the right questions and encouraged John to develop his answers so we learned so much more. A very short two hours with one of the best guitarists on the planet. Bloody excellent !
The part about “what would my parents think” rings true. We had a high school rock band, and one weekend the local bar called and asked if we’d fill in for a no-show at the last minute. We got cold feet and said no. I often wonder what would have happened if we’d said yes. The “parents” angle was a big thing in 1985.
John is so thoughtful in his approach to creating music, playing guitar, building tones, rhythms, melodies and songs. He speaks with as much thought as he plays. What an incredible gentleman. It's great to see one of the greatest guitarists of all time have such a well-grounded personality. Very refreshing.
With John's success and abilities, it is inspirational to see how humble and open he is to sharing how he arrived at his accomplishments. Thank you captain for providing an open environment and some good questioning to let us get a better understanding of amazing musicians.
I Love John Petrucci! ❤️ The guy is a legend, and he's so humble! Thank you Lee for this great interview! So full of technical info, good tips and good humour. 👏👏👏👍🎸🎶😊
I used to be one of those douchebags that said DT is all wankery and no feel then about a year ago I started listening to DT in depth and the amount that Petrucci has influenced my playing just in the last year is amazing. All he's made me want to do is get better and better.
thats what makes them even better, you have a dream and a purpose because of that. some thing need to be expensive because otherwise they would not even be wanted.
JP is the nicest most down to earth Guitar God we have, his passion for tone and Gear and making his art perfect has been something I know he has been about since the day I saw him in Guitar World for the first time in 92 . I like how relaxed John is when he plays and even before I saw this video I had a feeling he was really a respectful and humble guy , like most of the 'Very" best guitar players seem have the humble quality, it's stunning to see these kids coming up and play some of John's music almost note for note and I'm glad John has a Mesa Boogie with his name on it .
JP is probably the most inspiring guitarist that has lived yet. Always evolving and focused. He has all of the packages. 👌🏻
What a superb interview ! John Petrucci is so generous with his time and information and Lee asked all the right questions and encouraged John to develop his answers so we learned so much more. A very short two hours with one of the best guitarists on the planet. Bloody excellent !
I got into DT when Guthrie Golan transcribed the solo to Under a Glass Moon in Guitar Techniques magazine. I still have it.
GOVAN!
Alan Angel - Guthrie had flu when he transcribed that solo for GT and STILL nailed it perfectly. The bastard!
Congratulations at being the best guitar chanel around. Please keep doing 2 hour interviews with amazing guys.
Very refreshing.
wooooooahhhh. Anderton's is now officially a 5 star RUclips channel.
Petrucci doesn't miss arm day.
It’s barely fat 😂🤦♂️

Wow how modest is this guy!
I love his attitude, he is just that perfect balance of perfection and humbleness
I have an exam tomorrow but fuck it. I'm gonna watch this 3 times.
That's probably a bad idea, buddy. lol
Onur Uysal you've got company bruh! 😅✌️
10 page research paper on gas turbine blades due tomorrow... here I am.
I used to be one of those douchebags that said DT is all wankery and no feel then about a year ago I started listening to DT in depth and the amount that Petrucci has influenced my playing just in the last year is amazing. All he's made me want to do is get better and better.
It's one of the best all rounder bands that are out there
Petrucci is so Talented. Such a great player
One of my heroes! Petrucci's such a good player and a chill dude!
SECRETARY, CLEAR MY SCHEDULE!!
Meets John Myung - (Guest interviewer Dave Hollingworth :D)
The only thing I feel when I pick up a Music Man is pain in my wallet
You sure you ever picked one up? They are unreal to put it mildly.
They are amazing indeed...
Job Muiles true, they are fantastic guitars, I also have a music man stingray bass, sweet stuff! Top notch
have played this model,AMAZING!!
thats what makes them even better, you have a dream and a purpose because of that. some thing need to be expensive because otherwise they would not even be wanted.
JP is the nicest most down to earth Guitar God we have, his passion for tone and Gear and making his art perfect has been something I know he has been about since the day I saw him in Guitar World for the first time in 92 .
Never get sick of hearing him play or talking about his endorsements, I have to get a Majesty and a Boogie at some point!!!!
brilliant interview. Captain, you are so right, John is so humble and an incredible player.. Pull Me Under brings me to tears.
