Mike tries out Half-Life: Alyx, the VR prequel which is an actual game that Valve has made and released. I know, right? Watch on for VR gameplay, and a regrettable amount of scuttling headcrabs.
Mike: "This is just silly" Well looks like Mike is already fully accustomed to the way Oxtra do things. 😂💜 And now he's saying hello to a pigeon. Are Ellen and Luke using Jane's mind control technology to Control Mike's actions?
Also, he petted a headcrab. But, being an oxtra video, I could not help wonder how hard it would be to draw a pikachu on that glass. I guess we will never know now.
He meant a Pikachu. It's a faux-pas to mention those gross injustices around Oxtra HQ. It'd be kind of like making fun of someone for their country losing a war.
2 minutes in, mike has nearly blown his fingers off in the cold open, littered the contents of alyx’s patio into the street and abused a pigeon with a bottle. Superb work!
"Couple of shots, perfectly aimed..." BLAM BLAM. [Headcrab zombie fails to die, flinch, or indeed react in any way to the bullets that went vaguely near it.] "Well, brilliant. That was great."
If this game thought me anything, is that you should always remember when you are, when I jumped to avoid a crab and banged my head into the real wall I had forgotten existed. Also, if resident evil doesn’t produce a full vr game, they really don’t understand how games works
I've probably been waiting for this video as much as the game itself. Although to be fair I'd love to see the others try their hands at it as well, especially some Andy fearsinging (and throwing shade at Russell).

I really want to play this game and I could probably afford a VR headset, but looking at this footage in two second intervals is still enough to give me motion sickness.
.....I assume that's because it's twitching around but not tracked to your head? Hopefully, you could get used to it better if the visual movement actually follows your head motions. Then again, it might also be worse.
That's because this footage is only at 30fps and not at the 72Hz or higher at wich the headsets run. Also in this footage it can be quite jumpy but that's because it's not tracking your head. It is much better when you are playing it yourself
You reactions showed me that I'm not fit to be a rebel leader. I held my hands up while you pushed the city scanner drone away. You punched a headcrab while I never let them come close. I search every corner while you rush to rescue your father. But I bet we both had a great experience. By the way, I don't think VR is that rare anymore. I got my Rift on launch but after the years quite a few friends and acquaintainces that tried mine have bought their own. It's a big investment in money because your PC may have to be upgraded as well, so the key for VR companies is... More public demonstrations! More events! After this isolation BS is over we will really need that sort of thing.
That was impressive that your sense of direction was intact enough to shoot at the camera recording you at the 9m10s mark! I get horribly turned around in what little VR I've tried.
The fella and I bought a Valve Index just for Alyx. Which meant that we obviously needed a new tv and pc to do it the justice it deserves. So several thousands of dollars later, we each got the best gaming experiences of our lives. Unbelievably gorgeous game!
I can imagine Mike as a baby speaking in incomprehensible babytalk to the outside world saying: "This life is great and all but if I can't drive a car, what's the point?"
Could just be me, but the fumbling with reloading the gun and grabbing the headcrab and shooting it were my favorite bits. Maybe it's because they made the vr seem more r then v? Feels more like actually seeing someone with a gun panicking(ish?) at a zombie than the usual video game auto-reload.
Before: Best to shoot crabs from afar. Now: Best way to kill crabs is to catch it then shoot. Before: Jumps into panic everytime I hear crabs Now: Stance like I am catching turkey.
The camera was connected on to the headset mic Russell gave you, not a skull implant. Just because Jane went with the invasive surgery route doesn't mean it's the only option...
the textures, physics and everything look amazing, the jumping around thing might make platforming puzzles less inevitable too. shame so few people will actually play it.
Think of it as a trailblazer for whats to come. Valve's expanding the VR market by probably over a million units because of Half Life Alyx, and they've set an example to other developers and consumers of how good a VR game can be. This was never expected or meant to be a game with mass market accessibility. But thanks to it, most people will probably be be able to get good VR games far sooner than they otherwise would. This one game might only get played by a few people, but the next ten games will be played by millions. Also, I think there are mods that let you play without VR.
Well, yeah, it literally probably is. Can you imagine the outrage and damage to their image if they released HL3 and it was anything less than absolutely perfect? It's presumably much safer to make a prequel so that they still benefit from the HL3 hype if it's good, and "fans" can just ignore it and leave it alone if it's bad. Plus, this way, they've managed to release a new Half Life game, push forwards the whole VR industry with their IP and technology at its center, and *still* keep most of the hype around HL3 alive. They sold a bunch of HLA, they sold out all of their Index headsets, they're gonna attract more developers and gamers to SteamVR SDKs and hardware, and they still have the option of releasing probably another two or three other Half Life games and expecting them to automatically sell well because of the hype around HL3 before they push out the full HL3- at which point, they'll possibly have reset expectations to a more reasonable level while also focusing more talent on game design to more confidently rise to the challenge.
For info, HL:A furthered Half Life Episode 2 plot, it change a scene at the end of the scene to change what will happen in future episode. Also Gordon is in the game, just have to play it to see him.
barnicles can be shot with the pistol and then they drop what they've eaten including things you didn't see them eat, those first few barnicles ate a lot of ammo.
I want to know if you can pick up objects and use them as melee weapons... a lead pipe or a board, or even one of the big boxes might deal with head crabs pretty well if that's an option.
I mean, they already sold out all the Valve Index headsets they had pretty instantly as it was IIRC. Actually, I just checked, and it turns out that they not only sold it out on revealing Half Life Alyx, but they've been pretty much been continuously selling it out as quickly as they can make it for like half a year since then. So I imagine that the fortune they could have made so far would have been pretty similar the the fortune that they did make.
