The first half of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
You should always say “thickni”. I don’t care if people think it gets old. I love funny personal touches in videos that make them yours. But I do love how you are saying it without saying it.
I’m fully vacinated and I know a lot of others are or will be shortly. I’ve fallen in love with your channel and your friends during the podcast. I can’t wait for the sessions to reopen so I can come learn from you guys. The piece looks great, but what I’d personally really hope to get from the workshop is just knowing that I can buy your plans and templates and have a reasonable chance of success making something as beautiful and functional as your work :)
Thanks Ben...yeah, I like that detail...and we wanted to make sure the piece people are building is elegant and incorporates those little sorts of things.
I like how you brought us along for the ride. Even though not every person watching this will come to your shop, it seemed as though you were counting on that. ;)
Your videos have reinspired my passion for woodworking. I love the calming format with subtle elements of comedy. Perfect to relax to after a long day. Keep up the amazing work!!
This is probably the FIRST EVER youtube woodworking channel I came across - where the (modern) design of the furniture is at least equal if not even more important than the actual woodworking.... like furniture I would actually enjoy having in my home. Thank you for that... already subscribed.... 😁👍
Thanks for another awesome video. Given you’ve had to postpone the classes for this one, would you consider selling the plans for it? It’s gorgeous and I’m sure many others would be keen too 👍🏻
I’ve bought plans from you before and love them. I’d really love to build this project at home since the workshop has been canceled. Is it possible to buy plans and templates for this project? Thank you!
Chris, you and Shaun should do a contest of some sort for one lucky subscriber or follower to win a spot in your class. Including a flight to your shop. I understand this would be costly, but I believe it would be great advertising and it would certainly help someone who doesn't live in the area meet you guys and be a part of your techniques and methods.
So.. a flight to you is about $1100, the workshop is $1500, the Vagabond Inn is $68 a night, for a total of $2872. But meeting you guys in person and getting to learn from you is priceless. I wish I could go, but like I said before. If I lose my job, it's on your Chris. Maybe one day I'll be able to see two modern-day renaissance men do what they do best. Much love guys
haha...that american express commercial practically writes itself. We know it's expensive, but we think it's a good value. Hope to eventually see you here....job in tact :)
I wanted to do a full day on proper furniture testing techniques, but we decided that wouldn't be the best use of time. That being said, my services will be available for anyone wanting the official quality certification.
I wish you guys the absolute best in launching these workshops. Not even gonna insult you guys bye reaching out until I'm financially ready to go to one & enjoy it to the fullest. But... rest assured this just went on my bucket list. In da mean time I know you guys will be building stuff that's Stupid Dope Fresh!! Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!!
@@Foureyes.Furniture like I said. This went on the bucket list. Nothing would make me more.proud than to display whatever we built in my home forever!!! Dirty Jersey out again 👍👍👍
Personally I prefer the design of the completed project as to the proposed future class project. I guess it's the added stretchers that I like more. Makes the piece appear stronger and a little more substantial.
We like the look as well. In our testing all designs have been stronger than necessary. Like you could probably sit on any of these, not that a person should or would. We're really still dialing it in, but as you can see, 90% of the design is pretty much done at this point. It's just deciding on some smaller things
You are an inspiration to me, young man. I’m a beginner to woodworking and my goal is to get out of my current career of 38 years and build high end furniture like you do. My pieces so far are jaw dropping to me and my family, I’m glad to say. Hopefully, one day, I can achieve near perfection and furnish my whole house with top notch pieces along with making some great cash too. Thanks for your tutorials, M
Love all your videos and I'd like to see a whole lot more in the future so PLEASE lower your saw blade when making cuts. If you had kickback, you're done for with the blade that high. It only takes 10 seconds to lower but less that one second to lose your fingers.
Finishing the project with a low voc/ one time application finish, like rubio monocoat, would help save in time and would be appropriate for a side table like this. That stuff is idiot proof. Food for thought!
As usual that was awesome and what a great piece even if it might change...slightly. I would love to register but for now at least unless someone sponsors me HA I'll have to settle for watching, listening, taking notes and continuing my Patreon support. My money has gone into tools, etc. Who knows 🤷♂️ As always, thanks for all you do...and Mr. Shaun Boyd too. I'm a fan for sure.
Thanks! I know it's not exactly an impormptu buy...but I think it might be a longer term item on people's list. And we plan on this being the start of a long-term endeavor :)
Hey Justin...yeah, we know that will make it hard for lots. Luckily, Los Angeles, is a relatively easy destination. We've already got a good amount of out of staters...so hopefully it's not too much of a hurdle.
It would be cool if you had an online extended video class too like the wood whisper guild. I'd love to build with you guys but it would be hard to take the time to travel for a class.
Hi John, we are also working on detailed video plans. The workshops and video plans are kind of our two big goals for the year. We wanted to establish his first and then get to work on that. The projects and the workshops will be independent (not the same piece) but we think they'll cater to a lot of the same people.
Don't suppose the course cost includes flights from the UK and back again? (winky face sad face) Would love to join in and make something with you guys. I don't have a workshop (living in a flat) with limited outdoors space, but watching videos in this community gives me motivation to try things doing things i'd have never thought of doing. Keep up the great content, maybe one day i'll get to join in properly.
Thanks Charles. We're really trying to find that sweet spot between, design, technique, and achievable in 2.5 days. - hence the 15 or so different iterations we've already messed with.
