I ADORED this! Im going to Austria on exchange in 2 months, and god bless you for this video. I was low-key freaking out about what to bring. Also, for sure do the toiletries video!
haha, i'm going to austria in 2 weeks,, if you do end up reading this, please please please give me some tips for winter packing lol. thank you in advance :))
This made me even more pumped to study abroad in Great Britain this upcoming school year. I'm glad I found your channel because you have some very useful knowledge!
This is really useful! I'm going on a year studying abroad next year, and this is great! I'd also be really interested in the toiletries video when that goes up :)
You need to explore websites and programs and see which one offers the country of your choice. They usually only accept applications 6-8 months beforehand, and that's your only chance because they can't guarantee you a spot early, but they almost always require 6 months to get everything set up and in line. I am currently planning a semester abroad over a year and a half away in Ireland, and I am already talking to coordinators online to see what works best for me. I cannot apply until next summer, but this gives me plenty of time to prepare, accumulate things I need, save money, construct my portfolio, etc. Best of luck!!
Floor Wassenaar You can look up just a "luggage scale" The one I have it called the Travelon Micro Scale, and I got it from amazon for about $15, if I remember correctly :)
Quick question with the power adapter! So, I have a laptop that has a 3 prong, and Japan has a two prong. I'm going to Japan for 6 weeks for an exchange, will my computer survive the adaptor? Or should I just rarely ever touch my computer while over there?
+Awkward Artist No, that should be fine. I have the same issue with my computer over here, and I've been going off a 3-to-2 prong adapter for six months here, and 10 months in Thailand before. So, you'll be more than fine :)
+jacqui dyson Kind of depends on where you're going to be and you're personal preference. In my city, pads were easily found, but I did bring a whole year supply of tampons and midol, and it was definitely worth it for me. Try to find a female rotex who's lived near where you're going to be, that's how I knew all of that before going over there :)
+PurpleLavenderWitch I'm not exactly sure, since I haven't done a two month trip before, but I'd think pack enough clothing for 1-1.5 weeks without washing your clothes, and I'd think that would be fine.
Kicker Nyc I usually pack enough for two weeks or less. It's kind of the standard of what people say to do. But less is always better, because you'll be buying a lot of stuff over there, most likely :)
I talk about it a little bit in this video, but unfortunately, I'm not that good at gift ideas. The best thing I can suggest is talking to someone who's gone to your host country and find out what people there seem to like the best.
I honestly didn't have really any problems with this. I found it to be similar to the experience I had growing up, since it's a natural occurrence anywhere you go in the world.
+seoul hijabi first of all, thank you so much! And, I'm really happy you're looking into going to Thailand! In my experience, Thai people are extremely understanding and supportive of different religions. When I first went to my host family's house, they actually assumed that I didn't want to participate in anything related to Buddhism, because they thought they would be disrespecting my religion (I told them that wasn't the case, though). You might actually find this surprising, but Muslim is the second most practiced religion in Thailand (even though it's only 4.9%, considering Buddhism is the official religion, that's actually a very high percentage), and I've gone to many towns that have more mosques than buddhist temples. So, considering that, I would say you wouldn't have a problem interacting with Thai people, and making friends :) Sorry, this is so long, but I thought it needed a long answer :P
Wondering Child thank you so much for your response i also wanted to say i love your videos they give great insight to life in thailand and taking your answer into consideration i will look into exchange in thailand
I'm so glad to hear that :) thank you so much! I think if you go, you won't experience a problem with school either, you might have to get used to the Buddhist chanting at morning announcements, but it's just part of exchange. I hope everything works out for you!!
It honestly depends on the program that you go through. The program I went through requires you to go through several different interviews. The biggest advice for all of them, though are just to not be nervous and be outgoing. Most of these interviews are just to see how you react to be being put on the spot or how you deal with uncomfortable situations.
Hi just wanted to say I love your videos and wanted to know if muslim girls can wear a headscarf in school I am looking into exchange in Thailand but am worried i won't be able to practice my religion freely considering Thailand is a mostly Buddhist country and I am worried I will be looked down upon or not be able to make friends on my exchange
+Zoe Bickel (Zoeb) So jealous!! Probably other than the things I said are just to bring things that are more conservative if you want to blend in a little more :)
Mostly BTS, but also BAP and SHINee (my original kpop group). But, honestly, whenever something comes up that I'm interested in I'll listen to it. What about you??
sometimes keychains are nice option for a gift, or those magnetic things for refri. I can't wait to see your Japan blogs. too bad you didn't choose a latin country hehe. Argentinaean viewer ;). Good luck
María Eugenia Salazar Apparently, Asia seems to be calling my name :P It's literally on my bucket list to live in Latin America at some point (honestly, I would love to go to Peru) but we'll see how it goes ;) hopefully one day!

This made me even more pumped to study abroad in Great Britain this upcoming school year. I'm glad I found your channel because you have some very useful knowledge!
+Hope Stutes Thank you so much!! I'm glad it's helping you :) Have a great study abroad, I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun over there!
I am leaving to Costa Rica in August, so this was really helpful!

I am going to Sweden, Finland, or Norway for my exchange in high school... I'm so excited. :-)

I'm really excited to have found this because I'm leaving for Germany at the end of August.
LoveShelbylee That's awesome! Hope it helped :)
Hey! This is so helpful! Are there books in Thailand in English?
Chrissaeey Yep! Even in smaller cities, there's usually foreigner book stores. Pretty easy to find :)
Great!! Thanks :)
Please I need a answer: how early do you have to sign up for exchange student 1 year or 2 years before? And how do you get the country you want
You need to explore websites and programs and see which one offers the country of your choice. They usually only accept applications 6-8 months beforehand, and that's your only chance because they can't guarantee you a spot early, but they almost always require 6 months to get everything set up and in line. +Natalie Logan Definitely! I'll probably have that done within a month from now :)
two years after being posted, it was still very helpful, thanks x
I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you so much :)
Hey! How is that thing called, with you can weigh your stuff? At 4:52 you mention it, and I was wondering where I can buy it and how much it is.
Floor Wassenaar You can look up just a "luggage scale" The one I have it called the Travelon Micro Scale, and I got it from amazon for about $15, if I remember correctly :)
Thanks!! (:
No problem :)
you actually helped me so much! thank u💕
+Liv Bucks No problem!!
Can you give me some examples of the language books you brought?
Quick question with the power adapter!

Oh, okay! Thank you so much!!!
What about feminine hygiene items? Did you have to pack enough for the whole time or could you buy things over there?
+jacqui dyson Kind of depends on where you're going to be and you're personal preference. Try to find a female rotex who's lived near where you're going to be, that's how I knew all of that before going over there :)
Thanks, I think I'm going to look into diva cups for this issue
For clothes, how many pairs of shirts and pants would you say for a 2 month trip. I'm Australian and I'm planning on going to Canada for 2 months.
+PurpleLavenderWitch I'm not exactly sure, since I haven't done a two month trip before, but I'd think pack enough clothing for 1-1.5 weeks without washing your clothes, and I'd think that would be fine.
+Wondering Child thank you so much! My parents are letting me go once I get half of my money for it.
Glad to hep :) That sounds awesome! Good luck!
How long do you usually pack for? Like 3 months or the full 10? I'm going to Germany in my Sophmore year, so I really want to be prepared : )
Kicker Nyc I usually pack enough for two weeks or less. It's kind of the standard of what people say to do. But less is always better, because you'll be buying a lot of stuff over there, most likely :)
Where ru from and where ru going?
What are good gifts for a host family?
I talk about it a little bit in this video, but unfortunately, I'm not that good at gift ideas. The best thing I can suggest is talking to someone who's gone to your host country and find out what people there seem to like the best.
What camera do you use? :)
+Anna Lodenius A Nikon D5100, older model, but still pretty nice :)
OMG IS THAT A SHINEE POSTER IN THE BACKGROUND OR AM I SEEING THINGS?!
As i watch the video....i realise you pointed it out. 😂
+Lulu Bradley Hahahaha, yeah. Thailand ruined me for the better.
This is probably tmi, but how did you deal with your time of the month? Like was it awkward around your host family? Or did you have trouble with it?
I honestly didn't have really any problems with this. I found it to be similar to the experience I had growing up, since it's a natural occurrence anywhere you go in the world.
Thanks, this is very useful!

(Kelsi Rae) I'm so glad this helped! And, I will be :) I've gotten quite a few comments saying it would be helpful, so it should be out within 2 weeks
Does your roommate, maria, have a channel with advice as well? Im going to italy and i would love to hear from her.
+Christiana Leonardo She doesn't, unfortunately :(
Do you have any tips for the interview I have to do to become an exchange student?
It honestly depends on the program that you go through. The program I went through requires you to go through several different interviews. The biggest advice for all of them, though are just to not be nervous and be outgoing. Most of these interviews are just to see how you react to be being put on the spot or how you deal with uncomfortable situations.
Wondering Child Thank you! I actually got the news not long ago that I got accepted through Rotary.

No problem! Glad I could help :)
Can't you just ship your stuff back to your home country that wont fit in your suitcase?
Yes, you can do that, but usually it's extremely expensive, so I made this video with that in mind :)
I love your curly hair
+Kyla Clarke Thank you

OMG YOU LISTEN TO K-POP! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG! K-POP IS MY JAMMM~
It is the most beautiful life ruiner, indeed hahahaha
Wondering Child Indeed! What group do you listen to~?
Mostly BTS, but also BAP and SHINee (my original kpop group). But, honestly, whenever something comes up that I'm interested in I'll listen to it. What about you??
Wondering Child BTS, Monsta X, Red Velvet, Seventeen, EXO, and more~
Yesssss, that's awesome :)

Are you vegan???
+Julia Keenan I am when I'm in America. For the most part, I'm vegetarian outside of America because of language barriers :)
