Yamaha continues to lead the pack in terms of getting the best for the money. With this additional feature, wow how innovative!! People just getting into playing are very lucky these days with the options out there.
In NYC busking in subways, and bus terminals with amps is a no go. This is a great guitar to play in those venues to get amazing sound and be in compliance!
Great comment - will likely use it the same way for busking in Germany. Some cities (like mine) are like NYC in not allowing any kind of amplification to be used. (Still folks - including myself - still do it, but they have to grab up a lot more stuff when someone comes to check, and that can be annoying.). This guitar ought to make it more likely people will be able to pick up on the subtleties of fingerpicked and more gently played stuff.
Yamaha is a great guitar manufacturer. I love them incorporating the tonewood amp as they have with the TA line. I own the solid-wood dreadnought (which Yamaha calls "jumbo") Transacoustic and I love it even with the effects off. I played one of the FG's yesterday at a local shop. Surprisingly, the smaller body projects the tonewood amp better than my larger one. It didn't sound as good with the system off (being smaller and laminate back/sides). But for $500-ish new, it was great! Make sure and play it when you get a chance because it is fun! 4 people came up to me and asked how it was making the chorus sound. (Nobody seemed to notice the reverb for some reason.)
@@scottbecker3485 they made their own as far as I know. But I still call it a tonewood amp. It makes back vibrate as a speaker and is very low profile (unlike the magnetic tonewood amp). I love mine! Sounds great.
Trent Mason Thanks for the thumbs-up on the FG. :-) For playing without effects, I already have several really nice guitars, so if the FG falls a bit flat in that discipline (as indicated by several videos I’ve watched), so be it. But for greater immersion in songs at home (certain covers benefit a lot from having a sound closer to the original), I‘ll get an FG, and also take it for busking with no foot pedals, and maybe even no amp. Sure looks like a winner!
that thumb pick he's using is killing the tone of those guitars. it would need the action raised for such a hard hitting pick. you will love the fg-ta if you get one. i have one and i don't play my $2000 martin anymore, it's that good.
I got 2 Yamaha Guitars . APX 1000 & Just got the FSTA yesterday April/ 16/2019, just like the one you have there & love love it. Getting the all solid Parlor CSF3M for this Christmas .. Quality is always topshelf with Yamaha. Always good bang for buck too. I am a 61 year old from Newfoundland Canada. Have owned 2 Yamaha Side by sides as well . Awesome Machines. Yamaha Makes All Awesome Products .
Despite having some really great guitars with pickups (a Lowden jumbo, a Martin D-35, a Yairi, a solid-wood Voyage Air, etc.), I‘m for sure going to pick up an FG-TA soon, mainly just for added immersion when playing at home, and especially for busking without an amp on occasion. Who knows? Maybe even for live use? I wonder how the plugged-in guitar would respond to a bit of EQing to tame the piezo? Would the on-board effects suffer by adding some warmth and pulling down the mids and especially the treble a wee bit? Any experienced with that?
Larry Kenney Yeah, a lot of reviewers have complained about the lack of an indicator light to show the unit is switched on (or an automatic timed turn-off feature), thus helping to avoid battery drain. But I assume Yamaha‘s designers figured just about any dummy could be expected to switch the unit off when finished playing, and if not sure whether it‘s on or off, strum once to see. That way, there‘s no obtrusive light glowing in the dark on a stage, lighting the player‘s face up from below and making this lovely acoustic instrument look unnatural. They seem to have chosen simplicity, and trust in the user to remember to turn it off.
@@scottbecker3485 , I still say that a very small light would have been better for the indicator off the power, maybe I'm one of those dummies but I left it on a few times and was disappointed about it.
Larry Kenney Had to grin about your coming out as a „dummy“. ;-) Heck, I‘ve sure been known to be one, too, so welcome to the club! :-) Yeah, point taken. I suppose they could have made the light a very low-intensity red or something, such that it doesn‘t stick out like a sore thumb. Or maybe even a dual-color LED in green and red, with green meaning „on“ and red meaning „on, and only about 10% battery power left“. Does the guitar also work well with rechargeables?
hello, on the internet i found a guitar " Yamaha FG-TA Transacoustic " of different colors. I have one question. What is the difference between cilors and does color affect the sound and quality ? thanks.
Acoustic Letter In principle this rings true, but in practice I‘ve never heard a lacquered guitar of the same model that, for example, sounded as resonant and rich in tonal responsiveness as a non-lacquered one. Whenever any manner of paint is applied, is does do something to the structure of the wood, by filling in gaps. This changes the sound, at least in a very minimal way (my experience). Also, many manufacturers use slightly less good tops on painted guitars, since one can‘t see the imperfections - black is a prime example of this. The natural finishes are usually slightly better in quality. Just sayin‘. ;-)
In defense of Paul, when I stop by over lunch, we'll typically run through a couple of guitars, and so this session followed the Gibson J-45 and the "Knife" sandwich. I'm certainly open to adding other food items to each video, perhaps drinks and sides to capture the full course lunch experience. We have a number of excellent local Bozeman breweries/distilleries, and so perhaps there are sponsorship opportunities :)
can somebody help me to decide. between this two acoustic yamaha FA-TA or the taylor gs mini e mahogany? in my country it’s alsmost the same price. thx
Listen to both....... Be sure there is not hump where the neck connects to the body.....just a small one will make it so you will never get a nice low action. Check tuners....are they smooth turning? You need to play both.....they are similar guitars. The biggest thing is to be sure both guitars have Elixir strings on them. Taylor puts elixirs on all guitars. You can makes a turd shine with elixirs. I bought a yamaha that sounded better then a taylor.....as per a behind the back test at GC. Be careful with yamaha.....you have more of a chance of getting crap with them but there are lots of gems for the price. I wouldn't pay more than 400.00 for the yamaha.
Notice that the GS Mini has a 23.5" scale length. Short and very playable! I have a GS Mini e Koa. Amazing tone and great projection. Quit weak bass so far though, but it is expected to open up a little over time. I strongly recommend to give it a try!
David Kennedy, Elixir are great sounding strings, but what about the dusty fluff that's coming from them around the right hand position after some playing? Is it residues from the fluropolymer coating? Maybe some expert at Gore can explain. (Elixir is a trademark owned by Gore.). A rumor says that Elixir buys surplus stocks from other manufacturers, e.g. D'dario and just adds the coating. The strings have a sleek feeling when new, but the fluff disturbs me!
didnt you pay attention? the guitar has built in effects and dosent need to be plugged in to hear the effects.you can simply turn off the effects and have a natural sounding guitar.its not an electric acoustic its an acoustic with built in effects.
his point was that if you turn off all the internal effects it doesn’t sound as good. without effects it sounds ok to me, but the L series A.R.E aged top sounds better. Maybe they can add this tech to some of the L series A.R.E guitars.
@@kedduff1814 They sell a ton of these FS800 and FG800 series guitars without the TA effects installed. Played in person they sound really good. Yamaha sales claims that the 800 series is their biggest seller in guitars. Scalloped bracing in them helps the sound.
You really need to go play one IN person. I did. No RUclips video presentation I've seen does these TransAcoustic guitars justice. It's not a gimmick in my opinion.

Some people put their entire mind, body & soul into refining & perfecting the most beautiful sound known to man - the right confluence of bracing, tonewoods & overlooked tolerances weight, mass & soundboard tuning. And prices are coming around on mid-level priced acoustic guitars made with materials & craftmenship unheard of or unatainable at the lower price-point just short years ago. NOTHING is better in every way than a well-made acoustic instrument - which is less exoensive now than ever - if you know what's out there. Unfortunately, Yamaha has taken a gigantic step backwards in that trend by filling people's heads with this kind of crap. Just sayin'.... Ok, let the haters loose.....

I saw the fg ta at my local guitar center and absolutely fell in love I’m gonna buy it

The FG-TA is the Martin Killer
I have one and it’s significantly richer in tone than a Martin

Does anyone know if there is any difference with the yamaha fs-820 (acoustically speaking) other than the fancy transacoustic system?
It is an fg830 with the ta added
Sorry, 820

I don't get it
Pick a little of it
Ando the winner Is: FG TA
Can you adjust the TA volume when unplug?
There is levels for the reverb and chorus. But the volume of the guitar is based on how hard you strum!!
ken masters does it sound louder when TA is ON?
@@blitzkrieg2116 in theory yes since reverb is more sound actively added
I had a FGTA and sounds louder with reverb on to me.
Laminate back and sides, right?
It’s $400 less than the LSTA. Is there really any question?
Yes, laminate. The 'L' series TA models are all solid timbers, and you'll pay considerably more.
