My husband and I have a freakishly similar “courtship” story and it was so helpful to hear you guys process this aloud, acknowledging both the brokenness and the beauty of God’s providence. I listened to it myself, then we listened to it together and laughed at the relatable awkwardness of it all. Fourteen years later, we still joke about how that year and a half of our lives was way harder than the first year of marriage rollercoaster that many of our friends warned us about. 🙈 Thank you for sharing!

Was introduced to this channel through my sibling and I decided to listen to this to see what kind of upbringing or past you guys had so to speak.. I have to say I can't imagine giving this much power and control to my parents over my dating life and I can't relate to the aspect of waiting so long to hold hands or hug or to kiss. Sounds like you persevered through a lot of hardship. I'm glad you were able to ultimately be together but I would definitely never put my own daughter's through this

    I enjoyed your story.
It reminds me of the rules of courtship placed by my church that i grew up in. My parents divorced when I was a child and so i didn't have the family conviction, ultimately my life has been different.
Regardless, your story is sweet to hear

Well I wasn't sure if I was going to cry during this at all but I definitely did not think it would be what her dad said to Elisha! LOL that was so incredibly wholesome

I'm very confused as to why your dad was so hostile toward Elisha if he was trying to be honorable, but he was very non-chalant to let you date 2 other guys in the meantime.

What a story!! This is so interesting from such a different cultural experience, from anyone I know that much parental control would be pretty unusual but I’m glad you have a good relationship with them! I’d love to know how this has shaped your relationships with parents, if forgiveness was sought on either side or how you would go about that. What are your thoughts from the perspective of now being parents, what have you learned that you would want to pass on or not pass on?

I’d like to know also how your dads approach and involvement has changed. I know he was doing the best he knew, but man idk how Elisha could overcome that kind of beginning to a rocky start of an in law relationship 😅 did he stop trying to be in the middle and control everything once you guys got married?

I listened it all the way through, although I heard it before 😊 I would really like to know how your dad changed his approach with your sisters who are also married now (Kyla and Karaline), with regards to the writing letters and him being so involved. I am raising 3 boys and would like to know what he expects of the men who want to date his daughters.

Everyone's story is a bit different. Thankful it isn't a one-size-fits all cookie cutter. That would be really fun to have them on to share their stories some time.

❤ I am not understanding everything in this story… Katie, why were your dad and other family members so against Elisha? I appreciate that your family had certain concerns as to what is ok and not ok when dating…but something is abit wrong with the whole picture! Was your family really steeped into the doctrines and philosophies of Bill Gothard? Sounds like that…sets of rules, legalism, measure of control! I know your dad was trying to be protective of his daughter…that her purity was not to be violated! Are you still following Bill Gothard? If so, please don’t! Only follow Gods’ Word and His instructions…His principles are Absolutely Right… Man’s’ ideas and perspectives are Not where it’s at…that becomes man made rules and regulations for how you are to live your Christian life…that is legalism! You are not

free to truly be who God wants you to be before Him and make choices in His way through God, the Holy Spirit! I am sorry that you did not have that support that was SO needed when you were dating! Actually some parts of your sharing is deeply sad! Are you still accountable to your dad and family for everything you do or don’t do now that you are married? We are accountable to God for who we are…..
not to someone’s teaching or expectations of us…❤
