I have autism as well. Pain for us can be extremely overstimulating because our brain doesn't process the senses quite right. It can make it feel a lot worse than what the injury is, or sometimes make me feel not enough pain. That girl was very brave
Yeah I really felt for her 🥺and her mum bless 🥹all you wanna do is give her a big cuddle but that’s probably worse:( I’m glad she was feeling better a little while later
Seeing how her mom's heart was breaking for her, oh my gosh it made me tear up myself. Poor girl, that's gotta be awful. Massive respect to you and anyone else who has to deal with that kinda thing.
I'm also autistic. Normal human touch (just the brushing of someone's fingers on my skin) can feel like an electric shock to me, so I can only imagine how much a jellyfish sting would hurt. And yeah, definitely. It's less the pain itself and more of the overload of information that comes with it. Sometimes it feels like my pain converts straight into emotional overload. Sometimes I can bear things other people find unbearable. Just depends on how my brain decides to handle it.
@Chi thank you for sharing this. I have a grandson who is autistic. He is the opposite on touch. He loves to snuggle and give hugs. Every person is different.
Prayers for Leo and his recovery. He has some life long solid friends by his side! Hats off to them and their commitment to their friend. Peace to them all.
My goodness how tragic for Leo and his loved ones! 11:04 when the gravity of the moment sinks in...incredible work they do! 11:51 she checked on him, he nods as if to say he is ok, steadying his breath as he readies to head back to Leo...amazing show of strength. 18:38 heartbroken...the fact Leo is a positive person and has Hope, even when he knew on the beach, I cried with him. I was quad-paralyzed for 8 hours due to a medication mishap during a major surgery. It was absolutely terrifying to tell your body to move and it won't and you can't make it. Love and Healing 🙏🏽 Respect

As a Brazilian I could barely understand what he was saying. The friend has a super thick northeastern accent, at first I thought he wasn't Brazilian at all lol The sub was kinda innacurate too
It seems Leo hasn't been able to recover the use of his body. He's still quadraplegic but is taken care of by friends and family. There's an interview on youtube with his friend (shown in this video describing what happened) from 2021. The incident happened in 2011.
As a St John Ambulance NSW First Responder and someone on the Autism Spectrum, this episode was amazing. I am very happy with the way Jasmine handled the situation, and I commend the lifeguards for *_not_* giving the Penthrox to her after doing an assessment - there are many times a pt will need care, but it doesn't have to be physical. Just be with them, and support them. Having a cocktail of mental health issues is an asset to me as an FR, as I can relate with a lot more people on a level that others might not. The topical spray is also a really good treatment option for BB stings! As for the Leo - if a pt stops breathing but is conscious and has a pulse, as long as you have a means of establishing a *_manual_* airway where you can ventilate the patient, that would be my choice. However, I understand that every organisation has different protocols and training, and you did a *fantastic* job regardless. Spinal injuries are so tragic, and I don't know if I'd cope if I sustained one. For someone who's mobility is everything, that's so shit. I am very glad he was at least able to regain independent breathing. Keep up the awesome work legends! Maybe I'll run into you at City2Surf next year!

I'm in Canada and had a client who suffered the same kind of diving accident in Australia whilst on vacation with his wife and became a quadriplegic. As with quadriplegia, his body continued to break down and he passed away about 6 years later.
All beaches world wide should have Warnings about neck injuries. Then show a Wheelchair to scare swimmers straight. Jumping into unknown places is very Dangerous period. Most Diving accident victims..DONT GET A SECOND CHANCE.
While a warning perhaps could help, the wheelchair part is completely unnecessary and honestly quite ableist. Disability shouldn't be used as a threat or viewed as a punishment.

That's not typical. Quads can live full lives.
My heart goes out to the dancer I hope he has lots of support my adopted dad became a quadriplegic from a car accident my heart really goes out to him
They should have a hot tub located next to the tower for stings.
I hope Leo makes a full recovery.
Best wishes to Leo's recovery 🙏
Ah, I got stung by a baby bluebottle on this beach. There were so many of them!
I feel bad for the lil baby who got stung by a bluebottle
All beaches world wide should have Warnings about neck injuries. Then show a Wheelchair to scare swimmers straight. Jumping into unknown places is very Dangerous period. Most Diving accident victims..DONT GET A SECOND CHANCE.
While a warning perhaps could help, the wheelchair part is completely unnecessary and honestly quite ableist. Disability shouldn't be used as a threat or viewed as a punishment.
Soo sad for Leo praying that he may recover
THE BABY WAS SO CUUUTEEE
So incredibly sad about the young Brazilian man and his accident.
When I was 4, I was sitting on the edge of the beach making sand castles when a wave came over me. I remember the feeling like an electrical shock and I woke up with a lifeguard over me. The wave dropped 4 Portuguese Man of War on top of me. I did end up with an overnight hospital stay. 50 years later, I still remember the pain and still have a fear of the beach.
Me, who has been watching too much bondi vet with Dr. Chris: it's probably a paralysis tick, mhmm
I wish only the best for you Leo, thank you to Leo's friend for everything he did through Leo's tragic accident. I hope that you get better. We love you Leo ❤ 🙏 ❤
Ruben is lucky to be alive that blue bottle must have been one of the biggest meanest and most evil blue bottle ever
I hope that Leo is able to recover.
At this point you need a hospital and a police station at Bondi beach
