Whaaaat IO has a New XL tent that’s cool about 10 more lbs in weight but may be a great solution for those taller campers!

Love this. I remember when Arkansas Offroad drove a TJ. Those videos were my favorite, and I am so happy other people still make them with camping TJs
I miss Ark Offroad’s TJ. :(
@@JeepinDownUnder Definitely. I will often go back and watch his old footage on that thing.
@@Free_Range_4x4 Funnily enough, so do I! Haha
I think that's why I gravitated to Dustin's channel originally. I needed a decent TJ overlanding fix. :P
Welcome to the channel, I remember Arks tj, was a good channel and still is. Thanks for watching 🍻
I have the same tent too, it works amazing! You can turn the tent poles the other way and poke them to the front flaps to hold them up it works
I’ve tried that , good idea 🍻
Solid review of the tent. I have had mine for around 6 months and just finished an overlanding trip from Ohio to Colorado to Utah and then back. I didn't get to camp as much as I'd like to because of issues my Jeep was having. The best part of the tent to me is the easy set up and take down. Makes late nights and early camp mornings much more enjoyable. I also love the low profile and the light weight. Didn't even feel the tent on the long drive. I kept it on doing all the hard badge of honor trails too with no issues. Holy cross, Poughkeepsie Gulch, Steel Bender, Elephant Hill and Metal Masher to name a few. Its not the most luxurious tent but the simplicity and size/weight are the big draws to me!
Awesome so cool to see others are enjoy there IO tent as well! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🍻
I love mine. Owned it about the same time as you. I have taken it in the snow before. Wasnt quite sure what the temps were, but the tent definitely kept us dry and warm. I started with a heated blanket when camping in colder areas, but with this RTT, it was very comfortable. It felt very insulated. I also keep my blankets and pillows inside the tent and also my rifle. It is very secure and a plus, due to my TJs small real estate.
Very cool , all great ideas about the same experience. The snow as well. Thanks for chiming in on the video cool to see others with a similar setup. Any thoughts on the XL tent? IO + Tj 💪🏼💪🏼
Beautiful camp spot! Thanks for the details on the RTT. Happy Camping!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it. 🍻
all what you need has room in the TJ - that's Jeep adventure!
Yes keep it simple , and the adventure goes smooth. 🍻
Love the content good job!
Thanks buddy 🍻
This just made me feel a whole lot better I ordered one yesterday 😂
This tent is becoming really popular. It’s a great tent. I’m 6’3 so I would have to go with the XL.Be safe in your next trip. 😊
The XL is nice if you have the room, safe travels 🍻
Don't know how I missed this but I have an tepui I bought several years ago it's on my homemade trailer build now. I gotta save up to have one mounted to my jeep one day 👍👍👍👍
Oh cool I’ve always like those tepui tents, oh you have a trailer, that’s cool because I’m hoping to have some more trailer content coming out soon. Thanks for stopping by Steven i appreciate it 🍻
Good video 👍
Thank you 🍻
MORE COW BELL !!! ✌ LOL 206 SEATTLE
Hahah right ! 🍻
Looks nice but is it too long for a hardtop tj? Wondering about interference with the rear lift glass.
Great review! I've had my IO RTT for about 2 months now, taken it on just one long trip, and feel pretty much the same as you. That stock mattress absolutely has to go, though. Question for you - what is that faucet setup you have on your rotopax at 2:47? I've been dying for something like this setup!
Sorry for the late response this is the topper for the roto pax amzn.to/461P8Ho I did have to cut the tube to the right length so it doesn’t kink but yeah we love it just sets on top. Thanks for watching 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD thank you so much for this! You’re a life saver!
What rack did you use to mount the tent on?
17 F degrees is below freezing. when using F Fahrenheit 32 degrees is freezing, since water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Celsius is 0 degrees for freezing.
Yes your right I meant sub freezing below 0 F . In the negative territory.. definitely some serious conditions to be overlanding in. I believe the guy was headed for Alaksa and wanted to know. 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD most RTT are Not 4 season. the 4 season ones usually have a double wall, the traditional canvas/material type outer wall and a quilted insulated inner wall that can be added on for winter. still with that most people have heaters and extreme cold sleeping bags to use also.
@@TwoFeatherChannel yeah exactly that’s why I mentioned what I did in the video. At 17f (the coldest I’ve been in with this tent) its doaable, but anything less I stress that you have knowledge on what your doing. I don’t recommend it.
I have no problem storing my sleeping bag and inflated pad and ladder and zipping it closed. It's a little snug but completely doable.
This tent is one of the first from IO and I used to store all of that into the tent as well, I’m pretty rough with my gear though . back in January (my last snow trip in the green tj.) the zipper on the IO tent broke I feel it had to do with closing the tent while I left the ladder, and bag inside. Possibly stressing out the zipper . I was able to get the tent to close and buckle down but couldn’t zip the tent. As of now the tent is at a custom upholstery shop. It would cost way to much to replace the zipper (not worth it for the overall value the tent) so I decided to have him sew new material to the top half of the tent and use snaps and extra buckles to secure the tent down. This should save the tent, and still keep it waterproof I hope. So far the repair is 300 but that can change.its been two months and I haven’t heard anything back. Just want to get back on the trail. FYI Thanks for watching 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD Hopefully it will keep it dry without a zipper. Risky tho. Good luck.
Any issues with putting it away wet and having the mattress get wet? This is what I have always wondered about RTT and how people don’t end up on wet mattresses.
If it rains I use the awning/ door to get inside and out. I usually plan to only go inside once. And that’s to go to sleep or hang out. If it gets wet inside from rain, I open it up to air it out as soon as I can to wipe it down and fan it out . Never really had the mattresses be soaked tho, just moisture. That’s how I do it.
Is it hard to close with the ladder stored in there? I feel like it bulges a bit, worried it’ll eventually stretch out the fabric up top.
I’ve had no issue, but I do notice it’s there. 🍻
what is your set up ? tires size and how many inch lift ? looks good
Thanks In this video I switch from 33” to 31” tires, 4” lift 🍻
Any ideas on how to possibly modify it for less wind noise?
RTT are inherently susceptible to the wind because they are up so high. So either park somewhere that's protected or try to park with the nose into the wind.
Hey dude next time add some mayonnaise to the tostadas before adding the fixins on top. Not a whole bunch just like u would on a sandwich. 😋😋😋 oh yeah a lil bit of Tajin and Clamato juice. Nice scenery 👍🏽💪🏽
What is Clamato juice? My Dad said that he tried some with (maybe?) beer when he went to the US and drank with some Mexicans in SoCal. Since then I’ve always wondered! 😂
@@JeepinDownUnder it’s like a tomatoe juice I’ll send u a pic on ig just make sure it’s cold
We had the Tapatio 🔥 never tried it with mayo tho and I’m always open to try something once 😍 bro Michelada’s sound good right now. Alright next time we are making michies. 🍻
It’s tomato and clam juice commonly used to make michiladaas. It’s an alcoholic beverage, you may know them as a bloody marry, but without vodka instead beer . They are actually really good when paired with food. It’s a Californian palate.
@@ATEMOFFROAD I have no idea what micheladaas are either. 😂
It sounds interesting. I’d be keen to try it when I eventually head over!
What is the device you used on the water container to pump the water?
the topper for the roto pax amzn.to/461P8Ho I did have to cut the tube to the right length so it doesn’t kink but yeah we love it just sets on top. Thanks for watching 🍻
I never knew cow bells were still a thing!
You lost me a coriander by the way. No thank you! Otherwise the meal looks great! :)
Was that an alcoholic Monster?
It's good to see you're not burning your eyebrows off with the gas fire pit anymore! :P
I'm definitely keen on an Inspired RTT when they start selling over here down under, might have to get the XL though, being over 6' tall.
As for the zips, you could always carry a stick of solid dry lube to help keep them maintained?
Ha we were just talking about this. Probably helps keep predators away, and cowboys dogs can track them, I’m sure they are chipped tho.
Cilantro is not for everyone but we eat it in this house 😂
I can’t wait to start making a real fire 🔥
I think it’s great they have a XL now that’s the tent you will want , it’s awesome IO is listening to future customers, seems like they are doing it right! 💪🏼 if you can find a bar of fry lube that would be great. This is just what IO recommends. Thanks for watching buddy 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD I guess if that’s what IO recommends, then that’s probably best. Perhaps just for the in-between maintenance a dry lube bar could be useful.
Only issue with the XL tent is it would look huge on a TJ. :(
I wish I liked coriander, it’s just a very unpleasant taste and smell to me. Genetics have a lot to do with it apparently.
@@JeepinDownUnder 🤣🤣 I don’t think it has to do with genetics, I watch people in EU on RUclips all the time eat it. It’s a common herb and people have used it for all sorts of things. As yes that was a spiked Monster, and it was disgusting don’t try 🤣🤣
@@ATEMOFFROAD We don't have those Monsters over here. Glad we don't. Haha
@@JeepinDownUnder it’s gross 🤮
gteat video. what is the water faucet attached to the Rotopax?
Thank you🍻, this is the water faucet I just set ontop the Rotopax I had to trim the tube down just before it touches the bottom . amzn.to/3MAeepv
amazing. such an elegant solution.
Hey, is the tent material good enough for winter camping?
I think so, I winter camp with it. 🍻
can you recommend a good low hight rack for my 2011 jeep rubicon two door? for a roof top tent?
I made my own because the ones you buy I like, but either they cost way too much or looks bulky, I made my rack on the jk and I will probably share it during my next camping trip in the jk 🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD I ended up buying a metal cloak rack with the catwalk and i got door steps also Looks great but pricey for sure
@@THENEWWRANGLER awesome 🍻
Does anybody have an idea how to get this tent in europe?
You could contact IO directly 🍻
Does it catch wind at high speeds noticeably?
I keep the tent relatively low so air finds it’s way above instead of under the tent, I haven’t had any issues
What water faucet is that?
It’s one of those 5 gallon water dispensers on Amazon here the link to the one I have 🍻amzn.to/46sBxsx
