Yuki Atori himself is a great bass player. Even fretless basses usually sound good when he plays them. But somehow in this video he didn't do his skills justice
@@TheDiamondBladeHD I do agree Yuki is a monster on bass, generally. For some reason, this year Ibanez demos (those mainly coming from Japanese artists) overall were quite disappointing, I thought...
Ibanez’s most extraordinary accomplishment is somehow only releasing the colors/finishes I want the most into configurations I don’t particularly want lol. Put this finish on the multiscale fretted version and it’s basically an insta-buy.
One of my students has a 4 string fretted version of this bass. I thought it felt great and I was really impressed with it. I bought one of the ehb1005f models and it came with several quality control issues. I’ve ironed the issues out, but there shouldn’t have been any issues. Hey Ibanez, whats up with your quality control?
I think the design is amazing but the sound is really cheap to me. Sounds so synthetic and unlike any bass I've ever heard, but maybe there will be a market for this guitar that is not me. When he's playing on the clean tones, it sounds so weak and toneless. 🤮
@@boomerbutler7569 hm.. are you using something weak and toneless to listen to this demo? Because I'd agree if listening through laptop or cellular phone speakers, but with decent headphones or a proper set of monitors this bass sounds rather impressive.
@Boomer Butler I agree with @TerriblePeril , I'm using a Topping DAC and a simple AKG headphone but the sound is really good, sure maybe not the best out there but for sure a good sound, of course IMO
it really has a late 80's/early 90's look to it.. those control knobs are the same ones i have on my zon bass, had them on my ibanez SDGR and i had them on a modulus Q4 i used to own, both 80's/90's basses..
Just bought this and you're so right about the cable jack issue.. I need 2 hands to press the red button down! Also, yes, the bass does ship with round wound strings and scratches on the neck. Your review is spot on though, overall it plays like a dream and the tone is incredible for this price range.
I'm going to buy the same and am just a little bit confused about which flatwound strings could I use? I mean, I should cut them, is it OK? What strings do you use? Thanks
Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like the locking jack. I have an EHB1265MS, it's fantastic, but maybe I'll get the jack replaced at some point. I agree with Gregor, it worries me, as I stepped on my cable once (with another bass) and it pulled right out of the bass, which is what I'd prefer.
Exciting bass. The first thing I would do is deposit those Bartolini's into the nearest waste receptacle where they belong and put in some Nordstrands like on the higher end EHB. From comparison's I've seen it's like taking the blanket off of your speaker when you change out the Barts.
Or put real Barts on it, I did it on my SR806MS day and night, I put Bartolini jazz soap bars and now it sounds like a boutique bass, those BH2 Ibanez uses are just garbage
It really depends on the preamp also. Some Barts are super bright depending on what's inside. The Tobias Growler from early 90s had a Bartolini MM style humbucker that sounded pretty amazing. I also had a electric upright with Bartolini preamp and it sounded fine. I know that's pre-amp vs Pup, but I'm just making the point that not all Bartolini products sound muffled.
Beautiful bass. Can you adjust the truss rod without detaching the neck? IMO a bass is only as good as its setup, and I know that if it's a hassle to adjust it, I probably won't get it done.
Does anyone know what settings did Lars use in that intro tune? That tone was AWESOME! I can definitely hear a bit of a chorus, balance towards the bridge pickup (maybe even soloed) but anything else? Absolutely killer sound!
Ah. Well now I’m in a pickle because I definitely wanted one of the multiscale EHBs, and now I kinda love the fretless too! 😬 Maybe Ibanez would consider a double-neck version… 5 string MS + 4 string fretless 🤤
I love this guy and I hope jorge sprague and him have a baby so it can grow up to become a content creator that makes weaponized basses. Lets look at its features!
Not a fan of the color for the body and richlite fingerboard and hopefully they come up with more color options, but otherwise the EHB body shape and electronics are pretty nice.
I own Ibanez basses with the same preamp. Sure, I can play them without a battery. Another related piece of information: one should not leave a cable plugged in when there's a battery inside as the battery is drained even when in passive mode.
Such an amazing riff! BTW as anoying as the jack plug is , get an longuer jack cable! i think it is for live situation in case an idiot walk on your jack b4 your solo , like what happen in cane festival years ago to " fff " . in home situation it sucks and a dome in one is by far what i like most.
i think it would be 'more' beautiful if the upper horn didn't look like a piece of plastic which warped... to me it looks like the upper horn has been tugged upwards, to my eye the cutaway where it hits the neck should either be in line with the lower cutaway OR more perpendicular to the neck., it looks weird to me. sounds killer though, cool color too

Dead note! At 1:40 his playing hits that note a few times that practically refuses to sound. It has virtually no response and zero sustain. If that’s happening on a model Ibanez sent to be reviewed, that doesn’t say good things about quality control.
Fretless basses tend to have less sustain, as the string vibrates directly against the fretboard. Basically the thing that causes that fretless "singing" sound costs you some sustain. With frets the contact area of the string and the fret is much smaller.
It seems like Ibanez doesn't want us to love this bass; poor in-house release demo, minimal push for better press, single color way, different from any other in the lineup. It sounds pretty great, the EHB shape is what it is (I like it, but not everyone does I'm sure) but MAN if it had a little more in common with the upper tier EHB offerings, I'd IMMEDIATELY jump on it.
I think this might be the best sounding of the EHB line. Hardly anything would sound bad in Lars' hands though lol.
Thank you very much! 🙂
Unless it was Lars from Metallica.
A bit of Jack Bruce from 0:52 if I'm not mistaken. White Room!
Absolutely right, MrMiller! 😀
I like how he suddenly grows a full head of hair every time he starts playing
The official Ibanez demo clip on this model was sub par, this is very helpful. Thank you for your excellent work as always.

Thankfully with the jacks used on the EHBs, you can quite easily & non-destructively make them non-locking by removing the spring inside 🙂
That is one cool bass....

It's a nice looking instrument and the passive sound is awesome.
I've never played a fretless Lars so just sent that one to me

Of course!
Maybe to avoid string marks on the fretboard should be adding flatwounds?
I've had good success with half wounds for those folks who don't want to go full flat.
Little bit of witness marks is more than a fair trade-off for using round wounds and getting that mwah for me. They sound phenomenal on this bass.
Hmmm. Different. Pretty cool. Nice tones, esp the passive. And Lars is, well he's Lars!
Oh boy, I saw the Ashula in the back, can't wait!
Would love to get the tabs for that intro riff absolutely love it
