I like both. For chilli crab, I prefer a loaf of bread and tear pieces of it dipping them into the sauce. Getting the meat out of the crab is just a distraction! The red roe found in the crab shell (if available) is the reward!

Steamed crab is the traditional home-cooked crabs for Chinese families in Singapore. I used to buy 7 crabs for $10 from Giant and we steamed them. Nowadays, we just order (usually 3 different types) from sea-food restaurant and they are home-delivered.
Put the leftover steamed crabs inside the fridge, and eat it cold the next day, its amazing too! Not sure if its safe tho haha but i been eating it tt way. Still alive
Singaporean here, definitely prefer the black pepper crab! Packs more heat than the chilli crab for sure and it suits me more! I prefer savoury dishes.

Loved your video! Greetings from Singapore! Chilli crab used to be the go to, but in recent years, we are finding it has become sweeter rather than spicy melange. For the tourists. So yeah, locals are preferring pepper.
I only visited Singapore once and you are 100% right about the amazing food. One of the hardest decision I had to make every day was what I was going to have for my *first* dinner, since there was definitely going to be more than one!
Spot On! on the part where the fried Mantou with the chilli crab sauce tasted almost better than the crab itself. That's how many Singaporeans felt too.

You should try "Shell-out" where they'll serve u most of the seafood with rice and u can choose ur own sauce. It's a unique experience coz they serve it on a table cover rather than a huge plate. Usually try a combo of black pepper and salted egg yolk.

Glad that you and your parents chose the black pepper crab like locals do as most tourists go for the chili crab.
Singaporean here ! Black pepper crab is my absolute favourite! I guess it’s because it packs a punch and we love our spice!! 😋 chili crab is good too but it is cooked with tomato sauce as well hence the sweet flavour. My favourite style of chili crab has pomelo bits in the sauce; very refreshing!

The best crab I have tried in Sydney is white pepper snow crab, hands down. Really keen to try tassie king crab sometime but it's just a bit too expensive lol
Had chilli crab in Jumbo while I visited Singapore years ago. Miss it so much. Thanks for introducing this restaurant, I didn't realise there is Singapore chilli crab in Sydney.
Great channel! Singaporean here - yeah, I think quite a lot of us (me included) like black pepper crab more. But hey, a good chilli crab is great too. When you come to SG, try Long Beach.

I personally love chilli crab more as one needs to pay attention to the ingredients used and the time to prepare a really good chilli paste ready before frying with the crab.
I’m from Singapore. Indeed we don’t eat these often but usually I’ll order both! There are actually other flavours that are pretty common in Singapore such as white pepper crab, salted egg crab and crab bee hoon ( rice vermicelli). The last one is really awesome as the rice vermicelli soaked up all the goodness of the crab flavour and gravy.
Oh we love both these dishes so much. We tried different versions of chilli crabs when we were in Singapore. I personally like the one a little less "tomatoey". We are so jealous that you can have Singapore chilli crab. Cheers from San Diego.
I hate seafood but I appreciate the love and thought that goes into each dish! I am sure the flavours are spot on! I love you and your family and the content of your channel! Stay Gold!
Sometimes I just order the Chilli Crab to go, cook some pasta, mix it in, adjust for sweetness/saltiness/acidity and voila - Chilli Crab pasta! Not the cheapest pasta dish but it is to die for! 😋
So sad Las Vegas Don’t have black pepper crab……your food travel enlighten me. Now I have to visit Australia or singapore :) once again your dad and mama are very cool and enjoy your parents open mind and make your food channel fun to watch.
Singaporean here, I personally prefer black pepper crab!! But damn the fried mantou with chilli crab sauce combo is to die for. Also, as to why the chilli crab is not that spicy - it's because the chilli crab sauce is actually tomato based (which is why it is sweet as well) (P.S. slightly off topic, but if you ever have a chance to, try dipping the fried mantou in condensed milk :D)
Definitely BLACK PEPPER CRAB! I came here in Singapore from Shanghai three weeks ago to visit my friend, and we are both crazy about mud crabs. Everytime we go to a restaurant, we order both black pepper and chilli flavors. We do enjoy both flavors, but the black pepper crab is the heaven.
that slow mo moment just explains why black pepper is what the locals like more haha. Singaporean fan here! Black pepper crab is a hidden gem and the bomb
As a Singaporean, yes! My family lovesssssss Black Pepper Crab more than the Chilli one because it is spicier 🤤🔥 I guess you can say we love food that are on a spicier side 😍

"Its".. 😅 sorry i could not resist pointing out.. 😂 As a local, black pepper crab for me because i personally prefer more savoury stuff. But the mantous with the chilli crab sauce is absolutely phenomenal and never goes wrong. I agree with you, sometimes i actually like it better than the crab itself baha.
I'm Malaysian. As much as Chilli Crab being a good seafood meal, we normally have variations and accept Black Pepper and Kam Heong as staples or alternatives. Chilli Crab is no doubt the best choice to eat as it's much easier to go with any other dish.
Singaporean here. As you mum says Chili Crabs are more of a crowd pleaser, but it isn't a difficult dish to make, you can easily google the recipe and make the dish back home. But Pepper crab requires more skill and balance in the Spices. Its hard to find good Pepper Crabs, but Chili crabs generally all taste the same. What locals like about the Chili Crabs is as what you described, the Sause with the Mantou combo, We love it so much so that in weddings now there is a option to choose a dish where guest are just served Mantou in Chili crab sauce.
I think by now it's a universal fact that your dad's a legend

Stay Gold!
Thank you so much Terri! Such a lovely comment to read xx
Also, as to why the chilli crab is not that spicy - it's because the chilli crab sauce is actually tomato based (which is why it is sweet as well)
(P.S. slightly off topic, but if you ever have a chance to, try dipping the fried mantou in condensed milk :D)
Wow these dishes looks so mouth-watering
So hungry watching this😋 i miss black pepper crab in singapore. Your mum and dad always up for any food, love that😊
Your dad is a riot! he's hilarious.

SGian here, Actually i prefer chilli crabs to black pepper crab because of the sauce. The chilli crab sauce with fried mantou is match made in heaven!

Black pepper crab ftw. Your family are clearly connoisseurs of Asian food.
As a Singaporean, yes! My family lovesssssss Black Pepper Crab more than the Chilli one because it is spicier 🤤🔥 I guess you can say we love food that are on a spicier side 😍
Very jovial and full of laughter and happiness. Fun family
When you said Sydney's ugliest building I was expecting a shot of my uni, the UTS building ahaha.

Singaporean here, I like both Black Pepper and Chilli Crab. Hope you folks can come to Singapore someday. Thanks Amy
"Its".. 😅 sorry i could not resist pointing out.. 😂
As a local, black pepper crab for me because i personally prefer more savoury stuff.
My favourite one has got to be the salted egg yolk crab.
