I have never seen anyone have crab in a restaurant then move next door to the other restaurant to have another crab. This is some serious review!

I was blessed that my mom was raised in a city that was very ethnically diverse. She loved food from around the world. She also loved learning how to cook these varying foods and raised me on a lot of them. From a simple ragu of Italy to Asian stir fries and the best Mexican tacos (and I don't mean the hard shelled Tex Mex kind). Now I live vicariously thru Mr. Chen wishing my health would allow me to travel and try these foods. Thank you Mr. Chen for reminding me to keep my food horizons open and continue to explore great foods from around the world.

This brought back great memories. Thanks. I spent 1.5 years (1997-1998) working in AP with a lot of my time in Singapore. I don't recall me and my coworkers ever ordering chili crab but the black pepper crab is something I'll never forget.
I'm not the biggest seafood fan but that black pepper crab was calling my name.😋

Hey Mikey!!! Greetings from singapore 😊 I'm really glad you enjoyed our classic chilli/black pepper crab because they are some of my absolute favourites! If you plan on coming back to singapore, I would really recommend you to visit East Coast Village and try the famous duck rice there! It is to die for HAHAHA I usually order it with a side of extra vegetables and a braised egg. Order a side of fried oysters together with a fresh coconut and I promise your afternoon is complete ☺️

Mikey, I totally agree with you about Black pepper Crab... I've eaten at both restaurants (and a few others in SG), and far prefer the Pepper to the Chili Crab. Also, you can buy black pepper and chili sauce packets in markets there, so you can make crab at home.

I`m am a Singaporean and i can safely say that we judge because we want acknowledgement and we don`t want to be ignored or it could also be because we want some attention and that is normal in the sense that every Individual needs a bit of attention. My husband took me to Jumbo and Long Beach in SG and tried both Chili and Black Pepper Crab. And they are amazing (I like Jumbo’s better than Long Beach). Just last week we went to SG again and had a 2 kilo each of black pepper crab at the riverside across Clarke Quay. My husband spoils me a lot..❤️❤️❤️

Long Beach's Chilli Crab is the BEST! And I'm saying that despite having a Jumbo VIP card and enjoying discounts.

I am so happy you love both dishes! And the fact that you LOVED black pepper crab over chilli crab! OMG YES FINALLY someone who thinks that! Most people will recommend chilli crab but not black pepper crab, which i feel that it's not giving any justice to the latter. Black pepper crab is my second most fav dish in the world, so maybe i'm biased? lol

Been to Singapore last week, went to Long Beach,tasted the chili crab...now I'm having second thoughts why I didn't order the black pepper crab...sure, long beach is a little expensive but your review makes want to go back to Singapore and try the black pepper crab...if I subscribed earlier I could've known about you're reviews...such a bummer...either way you've earned another subscriber...keep up the goodwork!
Not sure if it came up in your search, you can find the original chilli crab in Roland restaurant.
My parents used to live in S'pore and Black Pepper crab was my favorite thing to eat when I would visit.

Thank goodness you didnt go to Jumbo first! Daamn you're in my old 'hood! Just moved from Singapore back to Sydney...so nice to see Singapore in your vids! I highly recommend Hua Yu Wee in the Eastcoast...try their Salted Egg Crab and the Seafood Mee Goreng. Singapore is all about FOOD! Enjoy! :)

Thanks Mike, you gave me new found respect for my own country's food! Watching you eat is my ASMR moments. Locals tend to prefer Long Beach while non locals prefer Jumbo. Probably as you pointed out, the spiciness level.

I have been eating Jumbo's Chilli Crabs since 4 years old (hey we Singaporeans start early). :D I also like the ones from No Signboard (also a popular place) and Yi Jia South Village Seafood (lesser known)! Other than Chilli and Black Pepper, Butter and Salted Egg crabs are also ah-meh-zingggggg

Personally, I'm more of a black pepper crab kinda girl! :) A lot of hawkers/coffee shops here sell good crabs (not to mention, cheaper) too! We have other varieties like white pepper, salted egg, etc. But of course Black pepper and Chilli crabs are the classic. Hope you had a yummy good time in Singapore!
