I was blessed that my mom was raised in a city that was very ethnically diverse. She loved food from around the world. She also loved learning how to cook these varying foods and raised me on a lot of them. From a simple ragu of Italy to Asian stir fries and the best Mexican tacos (and I don't mean the hard shelled Tex Mex kind). Now I live vicariously thru Mr. Chen wishing my health would allow me to travel and try these foods. Thank you Mr. Chen for reminding me to keep my food horizons open and continue to explore great foods from around the world.

If you plan on coming back to singapore, I would really recommend you to visit East Coast Village and try the famous duck rice there! It is to die for HAHAHA I usually order it with a side of extra vegetables and a braised egg. Order a side of fried oysters together with a fresh coconut and I promise your afternoon is complete ☺️
Long Beach's Chilli Crab is the BEST! And I'm saying that despite having a Jumbo VIP card and enjoying discounts. PS. I don't even know you and I'm already ridiculously proud of you for demolishing 3 crabs for breakfast. Well done!

Mikey, I totally agree with you about Black pepper Crab... I've eaten at both restaurants (and a few others in SG), and far prefer the Pepper to the Chili Crab. Also, you can buy black pepper and chili sauce packets in markets there, so you can make crab at home.
This brought back great memories. Thanks. I spent 1.5 years (1997-1998) working in AP with a lot of my time in Singapore. I don't recall me and my coworkers ever ordering chili crab but the black pepper crab is something I'll never forget.
Personally, I'm more of a black pepper crab kinda girl! :) A lot of hawkers/coffee shops here sell good crabs (not to mention, cheaper) too! We have other varieties like white pepper, salted egg, etc. But of course Black pepper and Chilli crabs are the classic. Hope you had a yummy good time in Singapore!

My husband took me to Jumbo and Long Beach in SG and tried both Chili and Black Pepper Crab. And they are amazing (I like Jumbo’s better than Long Beach). Just last week we went to SG again and had a 2 kilo each of black pepper crab at the riverside across Clarke Quay. My husband spoils me a lot..❤️❤️❤️

The original, authentic Chili Crab was invented by Roland of Roland Restaurant's mother, and their chili crab + mantous are the BEST! I would totally eat nothing but their mantous dipped in the chili crab sauce everyday forever and ever
Honestly, I've tried both Long Beach and Jumbo. But nothing come close to Seafood Paradise. And I've also brought so many friends there. So many of them fell instantly in love with their crab.
My family and I are quite foodies and have tried many places around Singapore. Rather than going for these big brand seafood places, our favourite place for crabs is at Chin Huat in Clementi. It's quite a hidden gem, tucked away among some older HDB public housing blocks. Lots of families go there too. We particularly like their really exceptional salted egg crab (you can choose between Sri Lankan crab or dungeness crab) or chilli crab though they do have a number of other flavours to choose. The prawns with vermicelli and red wine pork ribs are also to die for.
Been to Singapore last week, went to Long Beach,tasted the chili crab...now I'm having second thoughts why I didn't order the black pepper crab...sure, long beach is a little expensive but your review makes want to go back to Singapore and try the black pepper crab...if I subscribed earlier I could've known about you're reviews...such a bummer...either way you've earned another subscriber...keep up the goodwork!

no way, real chilli crabs are spicy, the tomato based recipe is changed to cater to younger generation tastes.
Sweet tomato ketchup is definitely for the non-locals. Once you're ready for the spice, head out to Melben or Mattar Seafood like the locals do.
