OMG that's so cool you have the orchid! How long did it take to fruit? I'd love to see a photo of it! Can you post it on my blog? You can post photos in the comments below the recipe.
Thanks for your lovely video. I can well imagine the fragrance wafting through your home when you powder thw vanilla beans. I cut mine in the middle when bean is fressh and cut them in stips like you do and place them in my large sugar containers and i have tons of vanilla sugar at my disposal. i use that vanilla sugar even in sugar scrubs for my cosmetic products when i need vanilla sugar. Foe my diabetic clientelle i use splenda that has a lot of vanilla beans , - i use the splenda vanilla flavored powder in my baking , jams, jellies.
My favorite thing is making different types of vanilla and comparing the flavor. It's nice to blend them and come up with your own thing. I also want to try using a super high proof alcohol and let it cure even longer.
Thank you so much for the video, guidance and information. I'd love some clarification on the pre-heating temperature as I'm not sure I got you correctly for example I thought I heard 107°F, 117°F or 170°F GOD bless you
You need the alcohol to extract the flavors of the vanilla bean. The alcohol evaporates during baking and you can't taste it, so it's safe for even kids.
Such an interesting and informative video. Thank you so much. I think next year I will do gifts of vanilla. I do have one question though. Is the quantity you use for a recipe using this homemade vanilla the same, or is this a stronger flavor and you would need less ??
Hi Barbara, thank you I'm happy the video was helpful! For the quantities you need please see the blog post on my website. I have a lot of information there and I talk about making this vanilla 'single-fold' and 'double-fold' depending on how strong your vanilla extract should be. Definitely check it out: livinghealthywithchocolate.com/desserts/how-to-make-vanilla-extract-and-vanilla-powder-14439/
Thank you for your video. May I ask what is the ratio you use for extraction? I have researched that the FDAs ratios are: .83oz of vanilla beans for 8oz of alcohol in order for vanilla to be labeled as "pure". Most seem to round it up to 1oz. bean to 8oz. spirit. If you would share your ratio, I'd appreciate it. Thanking you in advance. Keep creating!
Thanks Pam! Yes there's ratio, specially if you want to make it "single-fold" or "double-fold". For the exact amounts please see the blog post on my website: livinghealthywithchocolate.com/desserts/how-to-make-vanilla-extract-and-vanilla-powder-14439/
This would be a very nice video if it contained all info needed to make a proper vanilla extract. but it does not and any person who wants your info has to go to your blog next. the ratio is .83 oz of vanilla bean (yes they need to be weighed) to 8 oz 35% alcohol (has to be 35% or aboveand usually vodka) there is just something less than honest about leaving very pertinent info out on purpose. Every other How to vid that I have watched always inclued the bean to alcohol ratio. yours is not a How to, it is only a precurser at best.
I’ve got a vanilla bean orchid and have finally three fruits! I’m waiting for it to ripe and will use your method to extract!

One of the reason is that she talks way too much, unnecessary talk... it is annoying ...at least for me.....

170 degrees Farenheit
Ty!!!!! I don’t have a wire rack (I know I know lol) can I just put them on a sheet pan ? Ty
You can do without it. Us your sheet pan and then turn the beans half way through baking.
How can someone not like this video...?!?
Thank you so much ❤️
Thank you 😊
What can I use instead of Vodka or Alcohol

How long does the vanilla bean last or stay refresh.. thank you for sharing
If you store your vanilla beans in a bottle with vodka they lasts indefinitely.
While keeping for 4 weeks , it can be open or not
Do you have a link for where to buy those little jars?
I don’t sorry! I had these for a long time but I bet you can find something similar on Amazon

Interesting!!

So glad you made this video. Is there a minimum ratio of vodka to pods?
Thanks Pam! Yes there's ratio, specially if you want to make it "single-fold" or "double-fold". For the exact amounts please see the blog post on my website: livinghealthywithchocolate.com/desserts/how-to-make-vanilla-extract-and-vanilla-powder-14439/
After making vanilla extract, can the same beans be used to make the vanilla powder?
Yes, absolutely!
Yes but each time you make extract from them you wind up removing some of the flavor so your powder will be weaker.
Can you use the vanilla powder to make vanilla candles
Yes! that's a great idea :)
Nice video 👌
Thank you so much 😀
When using vanilla powder, do you use the same amount as for liquid vanilla?
Here are all of the details for this vanilla powder/extract recipe: livinghealthywithchocolate.com/how-to-make-vanilla-extract-and-vanilla-powder/
