I never thought once the violence in the movie was problematic.

Some people (especially in western society) live in a bubble. They can't handle the sad reality in wich violence does Play a vile role. Wars are going on around the world.

Nah the fight scenes are beyond offensive.
Viggo should've explained to the orcs how violence is not the answer.
They should've studied gender politics together and walked off hand in hand into the sunset. Leave the violence to the women. That's why the new LOTR series is impeccable.

Tolkien didnt gloryfied violence or war, He hated it, but in some cases you need it to survive

Re: The "violence" . . . Because Jackson/Walsh/Boyens treated LOTR as though it had been a REAL long-ago Historical series of events - a great war of good v evil - the fighting scenes couldn't be Disney-fied frilliness and fluffy, idealised "hero"ism for women/girls to swoon over. So I don't think it was either glorified or made to seem "okay" in any way. Actual war - is not pretty or "glorious" - it is raw and ugly and bloody and terrifying. As in actual History - it was what it was.
