Loved the opening scenes. Such nice sets running so beautifully around. Made my morning, before having to go to the supermarket. 😊👍
Good evening Pauline great to hear you enjoyed that. Hope you survived the visit to the supermarket, always a terrifying experience... There is a very large (Aircraft hanger size) Tesco's we use quite close to where we live, we've discovered If you go around 8 o'clock in the morning they don't play the dreadful music plus for economy reasons I imagine they only have half the neon tubing lit in the store which improves the experience enormously.
Thanks again for looking in.

@@oscarpaisley Haha, a wise thing to do. I usually can't drag myself there until after 11am (not a morning person any more) and get it over and done with as quickly as possible. Getting out of the car park without some impatient SUV hitting me as I am trying to back out of a car space is always stressful.
After a hectic week on the golf course what better way of starting a relaxing Sunday than a visit to Oscar’s video. A lovely look at the vehicle transporters. Thanks for sharing Oscar. Off to watch Rory win his last competitive golf competition of the year now. Unfortunately, it’ll be on the tv and not out in Dubai with him. Look forward to seeing next week’s video.
Good morning Roy, hope you enjoyed the golf on tv. Thanks again for taking the time to look in and see these car transporters in action on the railway, they must've been a very exciting items to get as a child.
All the best.
Oscar
great to see trains running thanks for share
Great to see 4 trains running together
Thanks Oscar, great to see the Car-a-belle set, I recently bought four car carriers from my favourite model railway supplier, three were fully loaded one needed cars, I managed to fully populate it without too much expense, crazy how six cars cost more than the fully loaded wagons, they make a great sound when they run.
Good morning Paul thanks for looking in. Some of these cars are far more desirable to collectors than others. Ones produced in black and I think there some in brown that are particularly sort after, out of the bunch of car transporters I've collected there seems to be quite a lot of green cars.
take care.
Oscar
Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire again. How are you today, well I hope. What a lovely collection of trains, I never had the car transporter wagons and cars but I probably had a lot of the other wagons at one time. I never saw the real wagons in the railway yard I worked in. It's always a joy to see the difference between wagons that Triang Hornby released over the years. I always think it was a shame that production was switched to China from Great Britain. We have lost so many industries over the years, it's so sad. But we have amazing people like yourself Oscar to show us all what we used to have in our railway hobby. Well thank you again for today's great video Oscar. Now it's time for my tea and toasted tea cake, so keep safe Oscar and have a good week ahead and i will see you again next Sunday morning. 🙂👍🚂
Good morning Oscar nice to see the old car transports thanks
Thank you, Patrick. Great to hear you enjoyed that.
Oscar
Morning Oscar ,what a great start to your video with a jinty ,the loco that started my hobby & a lot of your viewers as well . With the sun shining in Suffolk & a jinty ,first class viewing . Really liked the cars ,interesting colours on some .very enjoyable .😊 Suffolk .
Good morning Stephen great to hear the Jinty was the model that got you started out in Hobby, I don't think we're gonna get much sun here today. It's been an appalling week with weather here in the north east by the coast. Thankfully, we missed any serious snow but temperature and wind has been vicious.
All the best.
Oscar
Good morning Oscar , a bright morning in Sutton Coldfield, your wonderful railway classic Triang in days gone by.
Thanks for the memories. I have six car-a-belles with cars. Some blue, some grey. Mine bought individually boxed and unboxed secondhand. Not looked at them for many years. I did not remember that one of the cars is a Hillman Imp. My first car. Many were used on car rallies due to its lively performance and good road holding. Let down by its aluminium engine and distorting cylinder head. So many memories of repairing it. I must get the car-a-belles out to try on my code 100 track.
Good morning Robert sounds like a phone collection of car transporters you have there they would make a great site on your railway, I've never got to drive a Hillman Imp myself, but a friend of mine's father at school had a very bright redeie orange one I remember riding it from time to time, it was reassuringly noisy especially climbing hills.
All the best,
Oscar
The Car-a-belle set was one of the great play sets, the imagination goes wild when I see it. The memories those cars invoke, terrific. My first two car were Hillman Imps, you would have thought I would have learned my lesson with the first one. Thank you for a trip down memory lane Oscar, I look forward to next weeks video and some more recent memories. David.
Hi David, thanks again for looking in. It's an amazing group items definitely gets the imagination going. I can imagine looking at the set in a shop window and thinking of all things I could do with it. A friend of mine at schools father had a Hillman Imp I remember riding in it, very bright orangey red colour.
Take care.
Oscar
Thanks OP the Viva is an HA. I had an HB in the 70’s. First car.
Hi Oscar,
i have a Jinty from the breakdown set, which I have had since I was a kid. Although I don’t model in OO, I will get it running again one day. I love seeing these triang and hornby models running and the additional info you provide. A joy to watch.
Hi, great to hear you still have your original Jinty from childhood. I'm sure it'll bring spring back with a little servicing, thanks for looking in nice to hear you're enjoying seeing these older Tri-ang and Hornby Railways items running on the railway and finding videos interesting.
Take care.
Oscar
hi Oscar. great to wake up to 60's style toy trains, makes sunday morning a treat.i have a jinty must get it out along with my Triang F7 diesel locos which are red and silver, from 1962,,have just got a lovely R354 08 diesel made in 1980 for under fifty pounds like new, with auto un coupler
Triang never called their R.55 diesel an F7. Just a freelanced model mixing up photos and shapes of EMD, Alco and even a bit of Fairbanks Morse designs. Just made to fit the very good , but over scale , power bogie they developed.
Richards Lines describing how they developed the early Transcontinental models is on record of saying they did not know what they were doing.
Thank you, Peter. Great to hear you enjoyed the video on Sunday morning.
All the best.
Oscar
Thank you Oscar for another interesting video, great to watch. Those car transporters are great with those classic cars! Of course, they would have been modern cars back in the day! I collected a few of the Playcraft versions, I just loved the tiny French cars they came with, beautiful colours, but unbelievably fragile! The wagons came with three different couplings - very confusing!
Yes, the Leicester TCS show was great, but it made me wish I collected old O gauge tinplate models with some that were for sale! All the best. Gordon
Hi Gordon, great to hear you enjoyed the TCS show. There were some lovely large scale items running as well, very nice to watch.
All the best.
Oscar
Hi Oscar ,
Great seeing more on the Minix range and their incorporation within the Triang/Hornby system . The Tierwag wagons featured in the ‘65 catalogue Car-A-Belle set appear to be preproduction samples due to the black buffers and lack of any end loading ramp design . Would be great to see the Cartic R666 transporters make another appearance . All the best,
Paul.
Good morning Paul, thanks for looking in on the info. Will see I can do about getting a Cartic on the series 3.
Take care.
Oscar
Good Morning to you Oscar from Glasgow another great video 📹 from you Sir
Good evening Cameron glad you enjoyed the video. Hope the weather has been kind to you today, It's very cold here in North Shields.
Take care.
Oscar
Hi Oscar. The Car-a-belle was the second train set I got as a child. The first one being Old Smokey. I still have the Jinty. But the rest has long gone.
Good morning Gerard, terrific to hear you had the Car-a-belle set as a child, must've been very exciting to get and lift off the terrific lid to see this great group of items to play with.
All the best.
Oscar
At 17:12 . No radiator detail on the front of a Hillman Imp. One of the cars that were made rear engined in what was thought of as the coming thing in the late fifties and early sixties after the huge success of the VW Beetle, which holds the record of a single car design produced with something like 65 Million made.
The Imp was water cooled , unlike the Beetle, but with the radiator and venting in the rear.
Morning John thanks for looking in and a the terrific information, car manufacturers seemed more adventurous in this period than they are today, which resulted in some amazing looking vehicles and technical innovations some more successful than others.
All the best.
Oscar
Hi Oscar, Lovely Models and Super Smooth Running - I recall (Back in The Mists of Time), seeing Something Similar to these Transporters at The Austin Factory Longbridge, tho never seen any Out on the Mainline. Many thanks
Thanks for looking in Donni. glad you enjoyed seeing these items running on the railway.
All the best.
Oscar
I had that set when i was kid
Hi Oscar, Again, what a co-incidence.. We have only just run all of the Tri-ang items from this week's video recently, although only one of my car transporters has cars with it.. I had been very tempted to also run the "Cartic" articulated wagons as well? to show off the 'old' cars..
As you say, the cars are very colourful... But then, back in the later 60's, the real Leyland and Hillman cars did have some very bright colours available? Not so much (from memory) were the Vauxhall car colours as bright and noticeable over here in Tassie, nor were they as prolific? I don't recall ever seeing a Sunbeam here in real life... Mini's, 1100's and 1800's, along with Viva's and Imps were very popular here at the time.. The Minix range of cars are quite expensive and rare nowadays, finding one in it's original packaging is quite hard to do? However, our main interest here are the trains... Sorry that I digress.. The Jinty with "Synchro-smoke" was (and still is) a very popular loco.. Two of them running as a "Double-header", will usually produce smoke at a much slower speed..(on a Tri-ang RT 42 controller anyway)?
Really enjoyed watching today.... It brought back many memories of transport in the 60's? Thank you..
Good morning Rob thank you again taking the time to look in information about the cars, Great to hear it brought back memories of transport in the 60s the vast majority of cars do have very similar looks these days, not much individuality about them in colour or design. I do have a Cartic articulated transporter I've not yet tried it on the series 3. They do look terrific with a full load of cars on them. I shall definitely give the Synchro-smoke a go double headed as yo suggest via the RT42 circuit controller from an appropriate power source.
All the best.
Oscar
Hello Oscar - Not sure If I've said this to you b4or not - At the very start of your Vid - I have the (A newer Version) very same 0-6-0 Jinty Loco - from the Tri-Ang Railways Remembered RS. 30 'Crash' Train Set!!! Loco No. 74606 - The Motor is no-longer in the Cab - they moved it - so it is now in-between the 2 outer side Tanks!!! A very good running session - enjoyed the viewing the old 1965 Catalogue - Thanks for sharing 🙂🚂🚂🚂
Thanks for looking in Jimyjames and the information, great to hear it's a good runner.
Oscar
Great video this morning Oscar, obviously a classic range of items that became one of the best well ‘now triang sets, the mimic cars were always interesting to me, the way they did some the parts in chrome but also did the wheels a silver colour instead of black, would love to know of there is a reason for why they did them like that, great video overall though Oscar, keep up the great work.
I think the chrome on the Minix cars is for grilles and bumper bars so all the rest on that level of the car got the same for economy reasons to keep the price down.
The Minic Motorways motorised slot cars were much more expensive and needed rubber tyres for grip.
Hi Oscar,
Great Car-a-Belle in lovely condition, must be a bit of a rarity these days complete.
Some nice footage throughout and the guard wasn’t a health and safety man 😮😂
Gordon
Good evening Gordon I think these items are quite fragile, especially the cars and the transporters themselves with those fine latticework mouldings, you may be right about the guard and he looks scared stiff..
Thanks again for looking in.
Oscar
Hi there Oscar ,, you do love to run trains backwards dont you haha....
I used to do it but only on odd occasions where shunting duties were needed and that was a sketchy thing to do for me at the best of times as derailments to me back in the day were an issue and i used to get cranky at them for some silly reason.
I do admit i was only in my early teens when this was a thing over 40 years ago.
I had them setup on my floor in my upstairs bedroom. I used to love turning the lights out and just watching them go around the layout on the floor. Sometimes i used to run my uncles spam can on odd occasions in the night time but was a bit hard to follow in the dark as all I could see was the sparks it used to occasionally do in some spots. Great fun and really the best memories of my childhood life at my granparents place who i lived with at the time in inner Sydney. I could see the top of the harbour bridge and the red blinking lights from the first floor verandah.
Hey i was looking at the illustrations on the box and it got me wondering something.
I ended with ten of these grey double deck carriages and a heap of the different coloured cars and nearly all of them have the shiny chrome bases on the under side of them.
I noticed that the one on the box was run was the centre section up in the air and it got me thinking. Could there be enough room under the bottom of the bottom liftup deck so it could be turned a triple deck carrieras as in 2 cars under the deck,, 2 cars in the bottom deck of the lift up section and 2 cars on the raised top deck as these middle sections do pull out with a bit of jiggling around. Maybe you could even do a video on it ,, if it is able to be done at least.
Also do you keep any of the blooper parts of your videos as you could do that type of video too and we all love a good chuckle. Laugh reels are sometimes funnier than real footage as it just shows how funny us humans can get sometimes when things stuffup hahaha.
Cheers from John in Australia.
Good morning John thanks for looking into and sharing your memories. Sounds like you have a fine collection of these car transporters yourself, Interesting idea turning into a triple Decker. I'll have a play with it and see how it looks.
All the best.
Oscar
Thankyou for running my favourite LMS tank engine, Jimmy the Jinty. The car transporter wagons are normally hauled by a stinky diesel. I love the blue, white and red colour scheme on the vans. Reminds me of a foreign flag. Here's a brain-tester. If you're not sure, guess.
Two foreign flags have the colours, blue, white and red. One of them has the tasty junk-food treat of chips, known as Fries. Which foreign country does this flag represent? Here's a clue: the country name begins with the letter F.
White, red and blue.... Russia ?
@@premikyam2726 No. Read again. The foreign country's name I'm thinking of begins with the letter F. The second letter is r.
My RF52 has a brass cog drive wheel underneath and no number on the smokebox door. I had my first one in 1964 i think when my dad won the train set in a raffle at work...
Ah, the Triang (Hornby) Jinty. Surely the archetypal train set locomotive.
Oscar I own a Jinty in LMS livery crimson lake .. lovely livery I just prefer the old company livery’s personally. From 1970 triang hornby introduced the big four livery’s ..
Good evening Michael terrific to hear you have the LMS version, definitely gave the range a bit more interest once they started introducing the alternative liveries, as well as the option for them to increase their sales.
Thanks again for looking in.
Oscar
I have a few Tri-Ang models and have to ask, how often to you grease and oil them, the brass worm and wheelset gear in particular? Pre mature wear is a concern for me with these models, especially some models I pick up on ebay that have been heavily neglected. Thanks for any tips in advance!
Hi, when I get new models, I tend to give them a good clean and the light oil and grease. I find it better to lubricate these things a little and keep an eye on them and add a little extra if they're looking dry rather than over oil or grease.
Thanks for looking in.
Oscar
Hello Oscar, nice running as usual. Can you explain what you mean when you say 'split the railway into two' ?
Hi thanks for looking in, the Tri-ang Series 3 track is split into two separate circuits with several points, there are several crossovers between the two circuits. Very often I will have the railway set up so just one controller has control both circuits of series 3 track so I can run from one circuit to the other with no electrical issues so both circuits can be electrically linked by means of a switch to improve overall continuity. If I want to run independently one on the inside line and one on the outside I need to set a switch so both circuits are independently fed, the crossover points must also be set in the closed position so both circuits are isolated from each other. The Hornby Dublo three Rail is set up in a similar manner. Hope my explanation makes sense, it all works in my head and on the railway, it took me awhile to work out how to get this to work like this with these type of controllers. Whilst they have a Center click off and you rotate the control knob to the right for forward and to the left for reverse with the Center click being off, however with the design of these Morley controllers at the Center click there is still a trace current in rails so it's also important that one or other of the controllers is isolated from the rails when transferring from one circuit to the other by opening the points or using it as one railway. I'm sure they're far more sophisticated ways of wiring this up but as I mentioned earlier it works for me.
Take care.
Oscar
Hello Oscar. I have a few Triang pieces that I'd be happy to send you FOC. I could either provide you with some photos so you could let me know if there was anything you fancied, or I could put it all in a box & post it to you, and then you'd be free to do whatever you wish with the items.
Regards,
Stephen Davies
Hi Stephen, thanks for looking in, sounds like a very generous offer. You can contact me on the email address below.
Take care.
