I think I know why Lucas did the close-ups for Windu vs Sidious. They're fighting in only one room, and with what's in the room, there's not as much room to fight. The close-ups help us to see how cramped they feel as they're fighting.
Honestly i like them both but personally id like to keep Palpatines fight but keep George's vision with Palpatine being out matched by mace using vaapad to tamp into the darkside countering plaps attacks leading him to Palpatine to try and out think mace leading him to the set in order to get anakin to help take out mace
i think Gillard's duel reinforces George's idea of "Mace won the fight and Palpatine didn't lose on purpose", because slowly he begins gaining the upper hand even if the fight seems frantic and panicky on Mace's part. in a later part, Mace rapidly disarms Palpatine in a similar fashion to George's, and Palpatine immediately resorts to lightning, also proving that he didn't expect Anakin to be there for him
Lucas talked about this already. He wanted the stakes to be even more personal for this fight. You have the head Sith and one of the head Jedi face to face. A millennia of struggle has to be there. In order for Anakin’s choice to feel as tragic as it does every participator must feel uniquely invested in every moment of the action and the only way to do that was to get Sam and Ian with as many closeups as possible to show that battle. Unfortunately it was too late in the production process to teach them (particularly Ian) a set of high art choreography.
Why are you comparing them as if they're from different entities? Lol Lucas HIRED Nick Gillard. Tired of people trying to separate the creator from his work.
mainly showing the differences between before, and after versions of these duels. The right has the original structured format of the fight that gillard made. And the left is anything george lucas might've changed to well fit the final version. Just wanted to clarify that for any confusion
@Film On Earth Should clarify that in the video itself. As presented, it suggests George changed things from someone else's work - not the case. Should label them "production" and "finished scene".
@@kylelee6 It is, though. There's been a conscious effort to separate George Lucas from his work; people claim that he's not responsible for "the good Star Wars" and call him a hack. People have even gone so far as to claim his ex wife it's responsible for ANH. Just saying, the way this is presented suggests these are different sources or conflicting ones, which isn't right; they're both George Lucas and they're both Nick Gillard.
This video compares Nick Gillard's stunt work, to the final version of George Lucas' vision. That seems pretty clear to me dude. Maybe you cant read that well. I dont see anything seperating George from his work.
I like Gillard’s palpatine’s fight sequence better, but they had to account for Ian’s limitations. Dooku’s fight was a bit much - even though there were more form 2 Perry’s and counters.
I remember them well. I believe Ryan used this trick after viewing the behind the scenes. He wanted the ending to be unique so I'm pretty sure he used this as a sort of tribute to this well thought-out anakin moment.
I think that part in Gillard's version is missing close-up to Anakin hitting Dooku face with lightsaber. Could you also include Lucas and Gillard Anakin vs. Obi-Wan?
CORRECTION to your MISLEADING TITLE: FINAL CUT vs REHEARSAL It's GEORGE LUCAS'S ART people. People like to forget George Lucas is the CREATOR of Star Wars, THE END. And can do AS HE WANTS. The anti Lucas agenda is over.
Right side is the filmed fight, the left is what lucas created through editing of that fight, what a shame.... I don't care what anyone says, you can clearly see the edited stuff doesn't make any sense when you go frame by frame but the full coordinated fights do!!
Did Hayden just casually switch hands just before disarming the other actor in Gillard?
respect
Yes. I love it. Dooku’s wasn’t going to get his arm again!
yes he doesn’t want his arm to be sliced off again
I think Nick Gillard’s stunt choreography was better than the final version.

It's also because well McDiarmid isn't taught how to duel
Easy way to fix both of those problems.

Hayden is LEGIT
Lo qué hizo mejor Gillard fue la primera confrontación de Palpatine contra los 4 maestros, se vió más frenético

Bro gotta relax it’s not that serious

0:42 does anyone remember the Ryan vs dorkman videos? I believe this is where they got the ending scene

0:43 WHY???????????????????????? Gillard made so perfectly, WTH was this director's cut?
Yeah, the sequels were really lacking in this kind of commitment during rehearsals
I prefer the one in the bottom it looks more better
Ahahah , it’s just better 😅
Más mejor 😂
What could've been, an even more epic movie seeing the Jedi go down in a blaze of glory!
Dude, Lucas hired Gillard, I dunno why are you suggesting he changed someone else's work

Wild
So those old guys didn't actually fight? I'm disappointed.

Disney
Well, they are one in the same...
You obviously don't have eyes lmao
@@Jsjsusi Well Nick worked under George and both were made by Gillard, so they are one in the same.
Gillard is way better!
They are both from Gillard. It's just that one is watered down because of Lucas's creative decisions.
