It is said Schopenhauer influenced a lot the Symbolism trend in Art. And Schopenhauer, with Cioran, became my preferred philosopher, over Marcuse, during the second part of my life and until nowadays. So, have to say Symbolism matters quite much, to me. Although fussy, I like many of the ornate symbolist pictures. The less over elaborated are beautiful ones. Some Puvis de Chavanne, some Moreau and some Osbert are very good works. However, think it is a style that had much more success in Litarature than in pictures. It also had some success in music, and Scriabin, one of my favourite composers is a good example of this. The early Schoenberg in Verklarte Nacht is another one. And this is precisely my preferred Schoenberg work. Think it also influenced Wagner, of whom am really fond about his Tristan and then his Parsifal. Friedrich, one of my favourite painters seems could also be considered a symbolist painter. And this one is clearly a genius in pictures. Ravel in his Gaspard de la Nuit is also a symbolist. And his first movement in this work, his Ondine, is also a Masterwork and one of my favourite piano pieces. So, to think it as less important than Impressionism wouldn't be right. Symbolism in Art means not only the great Baudelaire. Some of the greater geniuses in Arts were symbolists, no doubt. Let's say the passing from symbolism to Impressionism would be the one from over elaborated works into an sketching kind of Art. It means to step down from ornate pictures into some kind of stripped sketch in painting. But all this is nothing but a humble opinion. 🤔🙄😳🙏
