Hi David, glad you are keeping safe. I am interested why a grinder of that size is 3 phase. I wonder why it was designed as such when I believe you have 230v over there? It’s a bit nerdy but these things intrigue me!
Hi well i don’t really know but three phase motors have a very long life maintenance free except bearings they run quietly and draw less power maybe for industrial applications even though its small the name on the plate was Life Electric. Googled it and found nothing . Best wishes David
3 phase motors are more efficient and critically in this application they generate less noise and vibration than single phase. Other factors which are less relevant on a bench grinder is that 3 phase motors also have higher torque (come to think about it this is probably also useful here) and can produce the same power at lower voltage. The downside is that it's larger, much heavier than a single phase bench grinder, but in an industrial setting this is an advantage. It also costs a lot more, but it's an investment. If maintained correctly that industrial grinder will last forever and will never become obsolete. A lot of industrial buildings are wired for 3 phase, so why not use it. All electrical transmission is 3 phase and only split into single phase going to residences. Apartments normally have 3 phase to the building. Great question Andy. Nerdy is good. 👍 All the best.
Good video!! Take care!!
Thank you! Will do!
Great to see old stuff working. Well that is what my wife says. LOL.
Lol
Thank you. I've heard a rumor that you are working on inventing a hole magnet for misplaced holes in wood? I really need this.
Hi Usaf, That’s a top secret project! Where did you get your information? Must be a leak! Probably from a misplaced hole!
