  • An Event Celebrating Inspiring Women Behind The Wheels
    LIVE VC TEAM TALKS events at the awesome WeWork Old Street in London on 16th October 18.
    Amazing women guest speaking on as panel coming to speak about their careers & experiences with the aim to inspire & introduce more women into action & motor sports :
    1) ABBIE EATON: The Grand Tour test driver & Pioneering stunt driver
    2) BECKY EVANS Aka QUEEN B: Car modifying superstar & automotive presenter.
    3) CATIE MUNNINGS: Trailblazing RALLY DRIVER
    Abbie Eaton:
    If you're a car fan and you hadn’t heard of British racing driver Abbie Eaton before last year, you’ve probably heard of her now. In 2017, the GT racer got the call up of a lifetime to become TV show The Grand Tour’s test driver, seeing off a host of rivals for the role - including ex-F1 racer Mark Webber.
    Since Abbie’s father Paul , who used to race himself, brought her to the race track aged just 2 months old Motorsport is truly in Abbie’s blood. At just 10 years old Abbie started Karting & competed for 4 years in the various karting echelons gaining many wins and podiums. Abbie moved onto cars aged just 15 & has since raced in the SAXMAX Championship and the Production Touring Car Championship, where she was the Class B champion. She’s also driven in the Mazda MX-5 SuperCup and was crowned the champion there as well.
    After that, she drove in the GT Cup, the British GT Championship and with the Blancpain Endurance Series, where she was the first woman to finish first in her class. And when she’s not doing all of that, she also works as a driving coach at Silverstone.

    Abbie puttin the kibosh on that sexism shit. "I want to race the best, and the best are men right now. So I'm going to race them." If girls wanna race, go for it. You might not have other many girls as role models in the sport, but you can still look up to the champions, men and women.

    I cringed at the fact she called Abbie 'The Stig', she CLEARLY didn't do her research on a simple fact. She is The Grand Tour 'Driver', not BBC's Top Gear 'The Stig'.

    • @gabiballetje
      @gabiballetje 5 лет назад +9

      True, but, we all know the thing working with Clarkson, Hammond and May is the real Stig.
      Top Gear is still getting enough viewership, and i like LeBlanc, but, it's not the same thing.
      Also, she called it 'the Stig role', which you could say is just now just about the technical term for the main tester or lap time driver for the cars.
      If another show, let's call it 'Car Lover's Digest', does the same type of thing, and you call that person the 'Car Lover's Digest Stig', anyone slightly into cars knows exactly what you mean.

      @nicolasbertin8552 5 лет назад +7

      Yes it got old fast, like the stupid names they have for the corners now... or when they fake hating each other so much... A lot of the show is now jokes that fall flat. They seem to force themselves too much. In the old Top Gear, at least until around season 17 they were fine saying they were mates and enjoyed each other's company. Now it feels like, for show, they have to hate each other, it's ridiculous. There are a few moments that I like, that stuff in China last week was ok, but the special in Colombia was awful. I know everything is scripted, but it didn't show during the best seasons of Top Gear. Now you really FEEL like they do stuff that doesn't make sense. A wildlife photography tour ? Huh ?

    The Grand Tour team hit the nail on the head in a recent episode, too many parents think little girls should ride ponies and cars are for boys. Obviously fitness and physical strength play a part over a race but motorsport is really the only type of sport where (IMO) men and women could compete on an even keel. I work in a cycle shop and the amount of times parents try to turn their girls away from a badass MTB and towards some pink, floral granny bike because its cute and 'girly' is shocking. Obviously I do all I can to help, look how well the mountain bike fits her, look how happy she is on it, that sort of thing. Sometimes it even works.

    • @1973retrorabbit
      @1973retrorabbit 5 лет назад +4

      I bought my daughter a red and black Diamondback when she was able to ride on two wheels, it was a solid, quality bike, rugged and fun for her to ride. She got to choose her own bike with no influence from me or her mother. I never did see the value of pushing girls towards the pink bike with the white tyres, shopping basket and bell when clearly the fun bike with the trick nuts was obviously what she was wanting. When she outgrew it, I got her a mountain bike and she passed the Diamondback to her young cousin, he was very happy with it. Not sure any of the pink 'girls' bikes would have survived to be passed on.

    As Abby said, I'm tired of this conversation always being about gender, the media is making the big deal about it, the more you highlight it the more the wedge goes in between.
    How about Abbys racing history, or favorite car or litterly *anything* else about her, *other* than her gender, very annoying reporting, we know shes a woman already, we want to know *about* her.
    Edit, 90% of this interview is gender this and that, only the audiance seemed like it had *real* questions not directed this way, annoying.

    • @romevang

    • @ULSTERISBRITISH

      ian totally agree. That silly wee girl doing host couldn’t even get the facts right about Abbie. That’s blatant disrespect. And these asshole feminists don’t even realise they do more harm. Once you make their achievements about being a woman you devalue them immediately. Abbie is a top driver, period. She’s a class addition to the show because she is right for it as a fantastic driver and not a political exercise in “ box ticking”

    • @edskeates5357
      @edskeates5357 4 года назад

      @@ULSTERISBRITISH It's not about making their achievements about being a woman. You misunderstand the association being made here: it's about celebrating their achievements for the bulk of the discussion, and then also illustrating that women can do these things brilliantly on individual talent as many men look down on women drivers. It oversimplifies the problem to say the feminists make this situation worse or drive wedges simply by wanting to highlight women talent. If anything, feminism wants a society where women are treated as equals and celebrated as equals. The interviewer actually says the aim is to have everyone working together. If you are tired of seeing people celebrating women achievements, a) get a grip and b) instead blame both the men and women shitting on women. It's interesting that issues around class has been raised in this interview but you haven't mentioned this.

    I'd be worried if a W series was started. I'd be afraid it would just turn into WNBA or Softball, where it's very niche and not nearly as competitive or popular as the more competitive and more established male counterpart leagues. Just let them compete with guys and see who's the best.

    • @shiznuts
      @shiznuts 5 лет назад +4

      Thing is, with athletic sports the female and male body are very different. There's an inherent physical advantage to the male's build, which would render mixed sports rather unfair.
      With motorsports... well, it's in the name, isn't it? The battle lies greatly within the equipment. The physical disadvantage is not as pronounced because the performance is mainly demanded from the vehicle. Might even become an advantage to women as they're generally shorter and lighter.

    • @dannyslea
      @dannyslea 5 лет назад +1

      I didn't think the W series was a good idea either. But now that I think about it, It could be a way to help these women advance in their racing careers so it would be beneficial. I think racing teams want women on their teams because they are marketable. Danica Patrick was highly marketable and just an average driver in Indycar. I hope this W series puts emphasis on developing the drivers for top tier racing leagues.

      Yeah, that's just the thing right. 'feminism', 'equal this and that', 'discrimination', 'we need a 50/50 quote'.
      I agree... equal oppertunities all the way and if you're being mistreated based on gender, then that is appalling.
      But mostly they're not asking for equal oppertunities, they demand preferential treatment based on gender, rather than on skills or qualifications.
      And that to me is just a bunch of bollocks. Indeed, women should have the right and oppertunity to do stuff... but based on the sole fact that they're better suited than someone else. And that's just hardly the case in a world of say motorsports, tech, finance and what not, when women in general just have different interests and pursuits, so you're more likely to find the best already elsewhere in other fields of work.
      I applaud the likes of Abbie Eaton, Catie Munnings, Danica Patrick (IndyCar), Ana Carrasco (Supersport champ) and Maria Herrera (MotoGP) for getting where they are today because of their talent and success. But we can't just put a 50:50 quote on the field line-up, because women feel left out otherwise. Earn your spot the right way, everything else is just excuses and whining.

    This puts a very good spin on The Grand Tour as a show. You think it’s a big ol sausage fest and obviously The Stig is a man. Or at least that’s what “some say...” Top Gear ⚙️ is a slightly different beast hence why the driver is called The American 🇺🇸 in the early seasons. I have to confess to not having seen all episodes of the show up to now.
    I don’t hear much mention of The Queen of The Nurburgring Ring herself. Whispers “Sabine Schmidt.....”

    Formula One teams spend millions of dollars every year to shave every milligram of weight they possibly can off their cars. All other things being equal, it's more advantageous for racing teams to have women drivers because your average female weighs a lot less than your average male.

    The think stuff like this where females tends to say i made it all the way her by my self is really hard to say specially since all the material things we have now was created by man. Like no matter how much they achieve it will still stay in that stigma that they can't really be winners in any sport because man created it. That's why i think females specially young ones should start creating their own things for people to nob on for life goals instead of just following what man has been doing for years.

    • @tylink9966
      @tylink9966 5 лет назад

      But all i am saying is if you want support stop attacking man and actually work together cause no one will want to watch a all female show because it will just be all the same. Like we need a new strategy and that is having both man and women walk together in front and showcasing what both genders can do when they are put in a same scenario. Like heck if one of the 3 guys leaves the show of Grand Tour i don't mind having 1 female on it because at least it will not cause has much problems if it was all man together.

    As the stig?? And that wasn’t the only wrong you said. At least have the decency to do your research on people you claim to be your hero. Very disrespectful towards her. She’s is a phenomenal driver and deserves to be more than a feminist tool which your clearly using her and the others for. I couldn’t give a shit that they’re ladies. I respect them because they’re from working class backgrounds like me. All 3 of these ladies see themselves as pro drivers not lady pro drivers. That’s why they get the support and respect. They care about their sport, not being feminist tools. I’m from a matriarchal family. Would die for my mum, sis and niece. My niece, from a working class background is going on to do medicine. I’m her biggest fan. I’m not a sexist. I believe if your good enough that’s all that matters.
    But it’s ok to be a man too.
    Equality can’t be achieved through discriminatory measures ie woman only things, getting positions just for being a woman, or different race etc.
    And that’s balls about sponsors. If I’d a company of course you’d want ladies like this as a sponsor representative. I’ve complete respect and admiration for these drivers.
    Am I the only one found it ironic the host saying people need to just listen and learn more paha maybe then she’d know the biggest barrier and opportunistic tool in motorsport is money!! Also she’d maybe realise not one of those ladies have any interest in being used as feminist propaganda yet she insists in steering the talk that way.
    That’s why young girls will look to these drivers as role models and inspiration rather than people like the host.
    The stig is a bbc character from a completely different show!
    As for a women’s only series. I’m against it! Motorsport is one of the places where the field is level so it’s discrimination against the ladies to segregate them. Say football or rugby etc? Of course you have to have separate leagues. It’s not sexist it’s just fact most men will be naturally bigger and stronger. It’s not sexism it’s genetics and cross over in areas with immense physical contact would put ladies in harms way.
    But motorsport, the car takes care of the physicality and it’s down then to skill so women and men , should absolutely compete against each other. If your good enough , you compete. It’s that simple

    • @pjboudwin2730
      @pjboudwin2730 5 лет назад

      @@tylink9966 I think you misunderstood what I was saying basically theres so many women out there who are willing to go through plastic surgery to make themselves more attractive to the opposite sex weather for there physical size or appearance according to society rules and too those I usually say instead learn to ride a bike, drive a fast, run a multi million dollar company, be a comedian. Basically a woman looks more attractive when they dominate what's normally dominated by men. And I say that for 2 reason one I hate that so many woman still feel they have to have surgery to feel attractive ( for none medical or accidental reasons) and I believe in equal opportunity in everything and women shouldn't feel like cant join this particular thing because it's a mans world and only unattractive women do that and so they don't.
