I'll explain card counting simply Blackjack is a simple game get closer to 21 than the dealer without busting. Blah blah blah This is litterally just a numbers game, and because it's all numbers probability and math. You can make a mathematical best choice for each hand. This is called basic strategy and millions upon millions of hands have been played with this and the numbers all work out theyve used computers to do this also. This is just basic strategy Basic strategy cuts the house edge from around 70% to around 50.5% of winning against you. So you have a 0.5% chance of losing so we need something else to give us an advantage. This is where counting the cards comes, all we do is keep track of the number of low cards that come out of the deck compared to the high cards. Numbers from 2-6 we assign a value of +1 to. Number 7,8,9 have a value of 0. And 10 and A cards have a value of -1. (If you see a game of blackjack the deck isnt shuffled after every hand so until the deck is shuffled the cards that have been played are done) The higher the count gets, the more of an advantage we have. This is because blackjacks are more common plus the dealer is more likley to bust because they HAVE to hit until 17+ When the count gets negative the dealer has the advantage because blackjacks are less common and the dealer is less likley to bust. You may be wondering why blackjacks benefit anyone so I'll give you an example. Let's say were playing a game and we flip a coin, and every time the coin lands on heads I'll give you 3$ every time the coin lands on tails you give me 2$. We can play this game all day and all night over and over as many flips as you want. You playing this game? Probably since in the long run there is a gaurenteed profit. In the short run though you may have 5 tails in a row land and lose 10$. Card counters look at the long run. Also when the count changes we have a thing called playing deviations which bassically say hey the best mathematical choice has changed for what to do here because we have more information about the deck so instead of hitting a 16 vs a dealer 10 stand and you're more likley to win when the count is above 1. There is also a difference between true count and running count. The running count is the count we get from seeing each card, the true count is the current running count ÷ by the number of decks remaining roughly. So let's say we have a running count (RC) of 10. And we are playing with a 6 deck shoe and were 1 deck in. Well since there is 6 decks and 1 deck has been played then we have 5 decks remaining. So 10 (RC)÷ by the decks remaining=2 (TC) which is your true count. This means that on average for every deck left to play there will be 2 more high card than low cards. Variance is where this becomes a problem because it's not every deck is gaurenteed to have 2 more high cards than low cards it's just the average. The team ended up going through a lot of what we call negative variance. So going back to the coin game they flipped a bunch of tails. But it's alright because as they play more the odds are more likley to even out Hope this helps
There is even more easier : Take 2 decks and put them together and watch them everyday ! Next : 2 decks = 3,5 cm Count only High cards ! 1 deck = 20 High cards 2 decks = 40 High cards One essential Rool : Never increase your bets only double down when you count a significant difference beetween High and low cards ! One example : if you size UP 2 decks and count 20 to 30 High cards . Double down With 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 more frequently ! If you count more than 40 High cards With 2 decks ---> double down With 12 and 13 !!!! That's all 👍😉
As a former cage cashier in the casinos in Nevada. I can say a few things. The report below the CTRC (Currency tracking report count) is the Multiple Transaction Log or MTL. It was a hassle for me to observe patrons while tracking money for the MTL. In essence, the casinos are de facto banks now. There are other Gaming Board Regulations as well so tracking the money is a big deal.
Maths part explained: The bet spread is what gives you the predicted return on investment. The higher spread = higher return. By pooling the money they each can play in a way that yields a higher return.

If the dealer hands out one card they can't stop it. That is why he said at one point he would try and sneek the bet out when the pit boss wasn't looking so he couldn't stop the hand before the first card was dealt. Before that first card of the hand is dealt they can stop and shuffle.
@@jasonkerekesch5012 Yes and they can't shuffle the deck after cards are dealt either. He slides his chips out to bet big, the pit boss see's what is happening and calls for a shuffle, he can take his bet back. No cards have been dealt.

The $3,000 thing is called an MTL or money transaction log. Basically at $3000 they begin logging you transactions for the gaming day. So if you do reach the 10k mark for the gaming day they can ask for your ID. You can deny your ID for the MTL but theyll still log it and instead if putting in your ID they log a description of you and get a photo of you from surveillance and upload it to the MTL. The pit bosses can also put you into the MTL if you buy in over a certain threshold set by the casino.
@@hillaryclinton2415 not really. when entering most casinos, if you hve a mask on, the guard at the door will ask you to pull it down for a moment so surveil can snap a photo of you if they need it
I love my casino. They never see counters. I've literally just stood beside the table counting and sat down when true count hits +3 and stood back up when back at zero. They could care less. And less than a deck of penetrarion between shuffles. It's fantastic
A lot of casinos just think of card counting as an overhead cost like keeping the lights on. Its a very bad look to throw people out just for winning. Not to mention its not always worth it financially either, if a casino spends 200,000$ on security to stop counting but only would've lost 100,000$ to counting, it wouldn't be worth stopping the counting.

Excellent video, you got me into becoming a card counter. I have practiced hundreds of hours and am up 900 bucks since I started playing. I was the guy on the BJA forums who wrote the legal break down you liked “I ENVOKE MY RIGHT OF SILENCE”.
I learned and memorized Edward Thorpe's Beat the Dealer Card Counting book and the charts he included back in the early 90s. I lived 2.5 hours from Vegas. Me and my buddy would go every other week with about $300 each and make anywhere from $500 to $2000 on a 2 day trip. Worst case we'd break even and have a blast. But then later around 1997 they started changing all the rules, and raising minimum table bets, and the little advantages started disappearing. It was such a blast while it lasted for the little guy and the system worked! I remember showering the hotel bed with $20s and $100s. Now my $100 goes in 15 minutes unless I get on a positive count streak. Definitely need big bank rolls to play and expect to lose for a while as well.

First rule of gambling, quit while you’re ahead. Unfortunately much easier said than done. I’ve made the same mistake many times. Fascinating video brother!
Another reason to team up is the dispersion of heat - three people doing $1000 bets, especially if it's across three different casinos, will raise less flags than one person doing $3k bets in one spot.
I used to count cards at the local amusement park when I was younger and they still had black jack there. Every Friday i'd go with a bit of cash, multiplying the cash enough to afford a really crazy drunken night afterwards. I always thought about using my math skills card counting. I’ve gravitated toward no limit hold em to calculate odds bc as long as you’re playing advantageously with regard to the math, you’re guaranteed to win in the long run.
As a former surveillance officer and a more recent semi pro baccarat player. I think you're a cool dude and I really like your videos. Also they do have facial recognition. It takes about 20 seconds to look you up.
there are some fairly easy thing you folks could do to delay the ID. I am surprised you didn't try them. That said, I do this video ! ! Especially since you show that it isn't all boxes of gold winnings :)
There might be but to us it was just like taking a picture with a camera phone. We would put the gamer ID and how much we saw them buy in for and what they cashed out with. Then that data was shared in the network with all the casinos in the country
Basically what you see in this video is that you can be as good a card counter as you want, you still are guaranteed to often lose against the casino's odds. And you can lose insane amounts of money. So, unless you have unlimited money to start with, just don't gamble for a living.
Maybe you don't know this, but the casinos that ask for ID at $3000, are only doing that based on policy. You don't have to show them ID. You can decline and then they will pay you anyway, but put your description in their computer.
What is the general attitude when someone looses money in a team? Is the blame put on the individual? I understand card counting has it's ups and downs, but would the other team mates feel let down if they have to pick up someone else's slack to meet the EV at the end or is there more of a "whatever happens, happens" mindset?
Great question! You can kind of get an idea of that when I'm showing the graphs and people are laughing. I'm actively blaming team mates for not doing well and they're laughing because they know it's not their fault. But yeah, no one get's a hard time for losing. It's all about the EV not the AV. Sometimes there's minor arguments about expenses. For example, one of our team mates missed his flight back so their was a debate about whether or not it should be a team expense to pay for the new one. Basically, don't blame people for things they can't control. We do, perhaps hypocritically, tend to really celebrate wins as if it's the players doing. "YEAH MATE YOU DID IT!!!!!!!" when they win $30k or something.
This whole putting all your money in a shared pool requires a huge amount of trust between the players. I understand it works, but only if you trust the other players to play at least as well as you. As we're talking about 400K, that is a big amount of trust

Man this reminds me trading. I’ve been doing that for almost 6 years and you’re right on the money about being a professional loser. It’s a mental fight only few really experience when it’s your life’s work.
I would have liked to set a target. Only because, even though it's mathematically best to just keep playing... we only had a finite amount of time. So at $100k I would have been happy to stop. But at the time, as you'll see in the video, our upswing was so fast that it felt silly to end the trip so soon. So we kept going.
If you ever did that how would you decide when to get back in? If you 'override' the model you're essentially no longer 'trading' the model and start getting into really dangerous territory. I used to run some systematic trading models in an investment bank and it's remarkable how similar this is. You have to trust the card strategy and run with it. I guess the team play concept introduces a portfolio benefit where you improve your sharpe ratio because you're running more parallel games. Your theoretical max loss will be the same but the likelihood a lot lower and you can afford to either bet bigger or just have a smoother p&l..(.in theory 🤪🤪🤪)
@@ChrisLee-yr7tz it all depends on A) how much time the team of counters has to play at the tables. B) the amount of casinos they can hit, eventually you are known almost everywhere especially if you're forced to show ID to cash out for example. C) the risk tolerance of the investors D) absolute cost of the $$$. What can that money buy for you? A house, a vacation, retirement? If you can retire 20 years earlier if you stop at a highswing it's probably smart to back out at that point. D) opportunity cost. You or investors might have other ways to get great returns on money.
@@ChrisLee-yr7tz i like the comparison with trading models. But just like with counting cards (eventually recognized everywhere, or can't live in the US forever due to personal life) the model will not stay optimal forever. @@SQERDOMOONLIGHT I think all your points are valid considerations but I don’t think that was the thrust of the original question. They asked if there was a mathematical maximum and I can only guess from that that they were asking more on the basis of how the model was performing. I was really just getting at the fact that the cards have no memory of what’s already gone before, so whether you’ve an unusual losing streak or winning streak, it’s not really relevant. So trying to take decisions based on how recent performance has played out is a very bad way of looking at it.

For those who don't understand why the casino gave them free meals and such. The counters are playing with extremely slim margins that are volatile. Let's say a the margin is 1% with a 50% chance of going positive and you kick out a counter as soon as you see them. This means on average the casino would lose 0.5% to counters. However, you can mitigate this, you stop those that are negative instantly, and you let those who are positive play. The volatility will make some who were positive go negative (just like they only broke even after 6 days). With the casino choosing when to kick you out, it makes the odds in their favor and they will not lose money over long periods of time. Therefore the game is more around tricking the security rather than counting the cards. If you can let security to play while you are negative or losing you are more likely to win.
Watching the whole video in chill mode, then when the air travel was suspended and he was considering risking it to play... I was suddenly terrified and on the edge of my seat!
Variance puts a major monkey wrench in EV. That is SO painful to see that large of a negative swing, especially after a great positive run. Made my stomach turn just watching it. Wow! Still, glad you guys were able to come out ahead, a little.
Because like it or not, they are only playing with a 1% margin at best. The casino wants them to stay until they have a dip, then they kick them out. In other words, remember when people were going negative 10-20k in his video... That's why the casino gives you a free $200 meal. They chose when you get kicked out. You cannot choose if you are negative or positive. It changes the odds into the casinos favor.

Also, showing the way that you were able to start this with no experience and bringing us along the way is so inspiring. not just for card counting but just to show that with enough time and effort we can accomplish much more than we ever thought
I know I'm late to the party, but another good reason to have a team is that you'll be playing X times more hands and therefore be able to stay closer to your EV over time, any player that has a bad run can have it cancelled out by another player having a heater, so playing as a team is infinitely more valuable than solo
You give off the vibes of someone who is not there to have the usual casino experience. You look well-informed, and too articulate to be knocking around in that environment.

I also love rewatching this that you can lose $24,000 to the casino and they’ll get a team to make you leave before you can win it back. That seems illegal but nope! Sad
Stealing from someone who knows your name, has videos of you, and has half a million subscribers is a terrible idea
Exactly why you pick trustworthy people you know.
I dont understand card counting but your energy just makes the video so fun to watch
haha thank you! There's a video on my channel that explains exactly how it works. 😃
I'll explain card counting simply
Blackjack is a simple game get closer to 21 than the dealer without busting. Blah blah blah
This is litterally just a numbers game, and because it's all numbers probability and math. You can make a mathematical best choice for each hand. This is called basic strategy and millions upon millions of hands have been played with this and the numbers all work out theyve used computers to do this also. This is just basic strategy
Basic strategy cuts the house edge from around 70% to around 50.5% of winning against you.
(If you see a game of blackjack the deck isnt shuffled after every hand so until the deck is shuffled the cards that have been played are done)
The higher the count gets, the more of an advantage we have. This is because blackjacks are more common plus the dealer is more likley to bust because they HAVE to hit until 17+
When the count gets negative the dealer has the advantage because blackjacks are less common and the dealer is less likley to bust.
But it's alright because as they play more the odds are more likley to even out
Hope this helps
There is even more easier :
Take 2 decks and put them together and watch them everyday !
Next : 2 decks = 3,5 cm
Count only High cards !
1 deck = 20 High cards
2 decks = 40 High cards
One essential Rool :
Never increase your bets only double down when you count a significant difference beetween High and low cards !
One example : if you size UP 2 decks and count 20 to 30 High cards . Double down With 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 more frequently !
If you count more than 40 High cards With 2 decks ---> double down With 12 and 13 !!!! That's all 👍😉
No such a thing, its all luck, you never know the next card. Cards will be mixed after each game, so what are you counting.
@@stevensteven3417 They don't shuffle the shoe after every hand.

Yeah but no one offering to show people how to gamble ever talk about how casinos tend to notice stuff....
Some countermeasures casinos are just salivating to implement are 6:5 for player blackjack and dealer ties the table with a total of 22.
Maths part explained:
The bet spread is what gives you the predicted return on investment. The higher spread = higher return. By pooling the money they each can play in a way that yields a higher return.

Surely it must be illegal for the pit boss to have the dealer shuffle the decks and reset the sleeve after you've already placed your bets?
You can pull your bet back
If the dealer hands out one card they can't stop it. That is why he said at one point he would try and sneek the bet out when the pit boss wasn't looking so he couldn't stop the hand before the first card was dealt. Before that first card of the hand is dealt they can stop and shuffle.
@@dr.snapplethebadapples1620 Once cards are dealt you cannot pull back your bet. Only before the first card is dealt of that hand.

Watching videos about the beginning of Covid and watching people react to the beginning of Covid is always so crazy and scary
I always thought about using my math skills card counting. I’ve gravitated toward no limit hold em to calculate odds bc as long as you’re playing advantageously with regard to the math, you’re guaranteed to win in the long run.
I can almost hear the casinos saying "Excuse me, we're here to rob you. If you can defend yourself, please leave."
Isn’t there t shirts that help confuse the ai fit facial recognition???
There might be but to us it was just like taking a picture with a camera phone. We would put the gamer ID and how much we saw them buy in for and what they cashed out with. Then that data was shared in the network with all the casinos in the country
semi pro baccarat? that sounds interesting
Basically what you see in this video is that you can be as good a card counter as you want, you still are guaranteed to often lose against the casino's odds. And you can lose insane amounts of money. So, unless you have unlimited money to start with, just don't gamble for a living.
now that I know the series is on Nebula I'll watch the rest there!
Steven, I have watched many similar vlogs about this subject, yours are a true art form, Keep them coming!
Imagine being part of a high stakes card counting group and one guy wants to vlog it 😂
Maybe you don't know this, but the casinos that ask for ID at $3000, are only doing that based on policy. You don't have to show them ID. You can decline and then they will pay you anyway, but put your description in their computer.
That's good to know, that rule confused me quite a bit.

That's such an amazing experience. I mean, being in a casino when they're telling customers to finish their purchases.
Was there a mathematical “maximum” where you and the team would say “okay these profits are unprecedented lets stop here” ?
C) the risk tolerance of the investors
D) absolute cost of the $$$.
Any (active) trading model eventually needs changing as factors in the world are changing.
@@SQERDOMOONLIGHT
I think all your points are valid considerations but I don’t think that was the thrust of the original question.

Rewatching these videos. The best card counting videos on the internet.
The part that confuses me is how do you get comps and free stuff when most casinos seem to catch on quickly?
Because like it or not, they are only playing with a 1% margin at best.
The casino wants them to stay until they have a dip, then they kick them out.
In other words, remember when people were going negative 10-20k in his video... That's why the casino gives you a free $200 meal. They chose when you get kicked out. You cannot choose if you are negative or positive.
It changes the odds into the casinos favor.

Great video Steven! Thank you for showing us the realities of card counting and that you don’t always win even with an edge over the house.
This video and others have enlightened me to the fact that the time investment + headache > reward.
How do you think face recognition technology will/ or does already affect you guys sneaking in casinos exchanging data?
They will stop you before you open the door with a high accuracy and nearly no effort from their security
Hey Steven! Love this series and your documentation of these experiences! I have a question though, you mention at the start that this Vegas trip was a couple of years ago, do you still actively count or have you moved on to other hobbies?
What an epic journey! Man I would love to do shadow you and do an ad video for you guys one day. This was so insightful and fun, love how you stood your ground through all of it, and how long you planned this.
Simply epic
It's actually the opposite of insightful in that the strategy is idiotic! There is no benefit or increase in win rate playing across multiple casinos.....all it is is individuals who know how to count cards splitting profit... The team means nothing if the team isn't taking advantage of one weak deck! Don't praise ignorance pls!
Such enjoyable content, I really admire your commitment and dedication, keep up the good work!
This whole video is just playing with fire, hahaha. It feels like I'm watching a heist.
Great vid man! Keep up the good work!
Amazing series! I've binge watched it twice already. Eager for the next. :D
Damn I rly love these videos. Thanks for making great content>
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Really enjoying the videos. I normally watch / play poker, but this has made me a lot more interested in blackjack. I'm pretty confident in saything that there is zero chance I'd be skilled enough to card count :P
What is the meaning of saything?

@@kenbagwell8551 - Then let him explain it. No need to butt in where you are not wanted or needed. This holds true in real life as well. Do you ever hear your 'friends' humming Bob Dylan as you approach? (...."what a drag it is to see you"....)

I recognize the casino at 26:44. That's my home casino where I play poker. I won't name it since you want to keep the location under the table.
3:40 His bet spread was $200 - 1,500 per hand times 2 hands per play = $400 - 3,000 potential wins and losses per hand.
