the thing is 1990....feels so long..yet NOT REALLY...I remembered like it was not so long ago getting my first Raphael figure....Now here I am starting my classics TMNT classics line 23 years later..the kid in me still here and probably will always be...anyways good video and let the old memories COME TO LIVE FOREVER!!!
These figures are pretty great. These figures come the closest to my imaginings of the "perfect commercialized ninja turtle figures". I've probably been waiting 20 years to see these made. I'm impressed with Playmates and their handling of these figures, since they're a company not known for employing much articulation in their toys to begin with. Great review Dan and like you I can only hope they have plans to give us the other characters from the old show. Can you say NEUTRINOS!!!??
Those are the prettiest action figures I've seen in a long time and I loved that group shot. Nice job, Dan! This gets me really excited for the new cartoon. History seems to be repeating itself, you know? Popularity for He-Man, in the form of MOTUC, is dying down. Thundercats is done for. Now it's time for Turtle mania!
you have to heat it with your fingers: Try to move the board taking the stump with the forearm and give leverage (soft) up, give back to the set (stump and forearm) in round that down is up, and again, up (without forcing) do it several times and heat 5 minutes fingers will generate have softened enough articulation.
I bought all four at my local Toys "R" Us store. And I have them in their cards, wrapped in bubble wrap in storage. After watching this awesome video review over and over again I couldn't help myself I went back to Toys "R" Us and they were all gone! yesterday they had restocked them so I bought all four again and open them I just couldn't help myself ;)
It's worth mentioning that you can buy all of these on Amazon right now with free shipping. I bought the entire set plus the SDCC Night Shade Leonardo from the cartoon line for $96 yesterday. Save yourselves the time and money!
These were being sold in a B&M store near where I live for £13 each. I never gave much thought to buying them, but nostalgia eventually compelled me to start collecting them. My only gripe was after I first purchased Donatello, they then stacked the figures on a shelve so short the upper card part would be bent forward, which is always a put-off for a collector. Luckily another B&M store in a town regularly visit once a week was also selling these figures, and had them properly stacked. There is also a comic store in that town that sells G1 reissues of the figures that I'm gonna collect.

I just bought Donatello yesterday, and just after putting his Bo in his hand, some paint started to chip off where the hands gripped it. I guess I'll just go over it with some better brown paint.
Donny is my favorite as well, and I bought two of his "classics" figures (one to display and one mint on card). However the figure I opened has the "cock-eyed" look and I want to paint them. Does anyone know of a good paint to use? Thanks in advance. And...great review Pixel Dan!
I went down today to my local toy shop on my bike to get Michelangelo and Donatello in the rain. I went in,bought them and when I cycled back home in the rain realised I got Raphael by mistake! *sigh*
I'm only 11 but I love Teenage mutant ninja turtles 1987 (classic series)!! Thanks for the great review! I just ordered some from amazon and I was scared about how they would look and stand and all that stuff. THANK YOU!
For those who complain about the face sculpts, in the cartoon yes they were more smiles and sillier than the comic counterpart but in combat they were all serious minded, even michelangelo had a grimace. I think Playmates did a wonderful job with each of the varying emotional states of each turtle. Raph has a restrained rage, Don is focused, Leo is determined but with reservations, and Mike looks serious but deep down he's having fun.
Donatello's 'derp' eyes make me laugh, but despite that, I will definitely be picking these up. Great review Pixel Dan, you made me want to get them even more!
Honestly, I need these figures. A little pricey (€20 per figure) but I assume they are worth it. I aim to have them all, Mikey, Raph, Donnie, Leo, Bebop & Rocksteady. Donnie's eyes aren't too bad as they are fixable with some acrylic paint.

I just recently got into buying toys again.and I finally acquired all four of these Turtles. I think they're great but I'll never take them out of their box. Does anyone know if there are any plans to release Splinter, Shredder etc in this same style? I know you can get them in the smaller versions but not like the ones in this video..
I actually got two of these figures from Toys R Us earlier today and on both of them the up-down movement of the shoulders won't work. I'm really unsure if it's just stuck joints or what, but I haven't had this kind of problem before so it's worrying me and I don't want to try pushing down on the joint too hard to the point of breaking it. Could be something minor and obvious, but any help?

My set arrived a few days ago and I felt exactly the same opening them, so fun, so reminiscent of the older figures I had when I was little. Like you said, hopefully they stick with this line and release some more characters because TMNT does have such awesome villains but I'd do ANYTHING for a Foot Soldier in this style!
Just bought the Leonardo today. I agree that the fingers are not so good idea but the toes are definitely good for some nice poses, actually Im always a bit sad when figures dont have them.
I got my set today and i love these figures. They are definately much bigger than i had imagined. Luckily mine have no sloppy paint on the eyes or the belts. Can't wait till i have photographed them MOMC so i can open them =)
I used to search Ninja turtles toys since 2 years on google... And i only found figures from the newest cartoon that i hate. And few days ago, still searching "Damn i want figures from the original cartoon ! Why don't they make them ?", and few minutes after, found this classic collection... Awesome.
I have these and I really like them. My biggest issue with them is that I has issues getting Michelangelo to hold his Nunchaku correctly. I like the detail on these too. I just wish Playmates didn't kill the line with the 1990 movie wave. Personally I'd have prefered a wave with Splinter,April,Casey Jones along with Shredder with Krang. It bugs me how we only got Bebop and Rocksteady.
I know they are based on the original cartoon, but the vibe I get off of these feel like the live action movie. I understand they don't exactly look like the movie versions, but that's just me. I really like these and I want to pic them up. Seeing the detail in the weapons and the nice chain on the nunchucks make me want to see if I can use the in the new Ninja Turtles toy line.
I finally got them! They are amazing. I hope they make more turtles in this style because I want to see either their Movie versions of the 2K3 versions.
Sure, I OWN the Neca TMNT figures.(coloured version) But that was Neca, they always do awesome stuff anyways. Now, Playmates seems like they have finally realized how to do awesome figures for us collectors. That's worth a nerdgasm in my book ;)

When you were talking about the faces of the turtles, I just imagined something. Multi Personality Disorder, TMNT style. When you need to be a leader, you turn into Leo. When you need to be smart, you turn into Donnie. When your angry, you turn into Raph. When your being a rockstar, you turn into Mikie.

I've also gotta say these display stands are an accessory that I absolutely love! Can't wait for the movie wave Donnie, and hopefully a casey jones somewhere down the line.
bought all four today toysrus shredder, splinter, casey would be only ones i buy if they made more probably never happen would like to see 2003 or tmnt movie version in this scale each turtle personality of each character in that type of series really stood out from 80's version of them self
the 2003 tmnt had the same problem with the finger articulation, My leo can't hold his swords because of the figures..and I ended up loosing one of his swords :/

Also, why doesn't Donatello's Bo Staff have purple wrap like the other turtles have wrap that matches their signature bandanna & pad colors?

These figures look awesome and i ordered them, but i wish they didn't all make them look as if they are angry/pissed. It would have been nice if their mouths were closed with a grin or perhaps some other expression appropriate to the character. The loose joints are no problem clear nail polish can take care of that.
Find it odd that all the other turtles’ weapons have their respective colours on the wrapping of them but Donatello is the odd one out with white wrapping on his bo-staff
If you live in the UK and you can't seem to find these figures in stores try B&M Home stores in the couple I've been in they have pretty much all of them for £12.99 the last one I was in they had Donatello and Raphael.
So whats the best tmnt figures rigt now excluding the shf... im confused which i should buy.. this one or the mirage neca? Super 7 looks great but upon looking at the other reviews, the legs/thighs are really loose and also single jointed knees/ elbows and expensive😅

But Pixel Dan, the terrible paint jobs can be because the show has too much animation errors, & this can be a tribute to the awful animation errors.

on the new tmnt if you split the part of the belt that is glued together you can take it off and it has a peg on it so you can change them

Also the turtles received a minor redesign for the second season in '88. For the first season they had a more pronounced beak.

Find it odd that all the other turtles’ weapons have their respective colours on the wrapping of them but Donatello is the odd one out with white wrapping on his bo-staff
If you live in the UK and you can't seem to find these figures in stores try B&M Home stores in the couple I've been in they have pretty much all of them for £12.99 the last one I was in they had Donatello and Raphael.
which turtles do you recommend more?the nickelodeon tmnt or the classic collection?
So whats the best tmnt figures rigt now excluding the shf... im confused which i should buy.. this one or the mirage neca? Super 7 looks great but upon looking at the other reviews, the legs/thighs are really loose and also single jointed knees/ elbows and expensive😅

I got all four on Bigbadtoystore, VERY worth it, I picture these just getting more expensive after the new Bay movie comes out.
As long as you are not playing with them the hand articulation is fine. Maybe searching for a problem ? Still a good review Dan!
I don't suppose anyone knows if there are plans to release these figures in europe (preferably in the UK)? I watch these videos in envey of all the collectors in the states. Such awesome figures and the UK miss out.
I want Playmate deep more in overall figure scale Rocksteady and Bebop quite small...
