    For the past 50 years, I have relied on self-coaching, which has allowed me to compete in more than 20 sports, including multiple world championships and world records in drug-tested powerlifting. My 'Socratic Warrior' philosophy is based on asking questions in order to constantly improve my performance. However, I feel that although I am 'self-coached' I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for great content and thought-provoking questions like you provide. Thank you!

    I remember when I was 14 I’d sleep at 9 and wake up at 5 am and I kept this for like 5 years then I got injured and depressed. But I’ll try to get back to it. Your right about the keeping the same bed time cause I’d wake up naturally without alarm.

    Yes Sam, been playing semi pro for the past 3 years. My first 2 years were average seasons not contributing too much numbers wise but having the attitude and work rate but only getting 3 goals in 2 seasons as a midfielder as a regular in the team. This year I had a solid pre season just doing extra training in the gym and on the pitch followed by visualisation, goal setting, journalling, pre match routines, most of the techniques you discuss, been a game changer with me now having 9 goals 9 assists by December time, thank you and keep up the work🙌🏽👏🏽

    Sam I just got over an injury and I haven’t played the same I do not feel the pain but I don’t play the same

      Be patient. The brain will try to protect the body after injury. Means movements etc will be less fluid. You need to gradually work things back up to the norm

    Sam, Thank you I have been a top soccer player science I was in 1st grade, and i was scared to join a team because I went to a tryout and I couldn't try out because there were too many better players than me. Right now I realize what you said anything is possible and now you going to push me to join a team and achieve my dream of becoming a pro. Thank you a lot man.

    Sam i have just played an under 14 game but i played against the year above me. If i played well I would go into the 2008 team. I realized that this age group was much more physically stronger than me and so that game I played really well and got pass there defense multiple times but there physicality was undoubtedly hard to get pass. I played well and I would love to get chosen.
    Btw you have helped a lot throughout this year I hope you have a great Christmas and a wonderful year

    Yes Sam. Loved that one. Combination of all the tools to reach your fullest potential. Im a first division football player in Lebanon and i always felt like there was a secret sauce to being successful. Its my second season here and im still 20 and i already feel so good and fresh mentally about my next steps. Thanks a lot loved that one

    Sam… thank you I haven’t been disciplined the past few weeks because I had injured my back and took the gym days off my planner. I know I’m only young but I want to have good habits at a young age to gain the edge on people my age for when I’m older.

    I had a u14 match today and I was really confident. I had all my targets set and I was gonna play for my academy team
    But just before the match one of the teammates randomly said that u don’t get the playing 11 in school team
    This made my confidence drop
    But guess what.. I scored a goal in the 2nd half and it was a banger
    The thing is that I face this kind of criticism every now and then
    Being short and all that😅

    Hi Sam, I'm having this dilemma where I want to change from a keeper to a defensive midfielder, I don't know why I have this desire because I love to play as a keeper but it seems like my brain is chasing what is fun vs. What I think I will excel at the most. The thoughts come and go and I confront them each time but they return at the end of the day.

      It's completely normal to have conflicting desires about positions/where to play. Consider exploring the defensive midfielder role in a few practices to see if it aligns with both your enjoyment and potential skills, allowing you to make a more informed decision. But also balance your 'desire' with logic- really ask yourself what position can you be most successful in?

      Absolutely fine to do 👍 you need time to rethink/evaluate and often that can only come from a break

    Sam, at school I'm one of the best in my year, I'm very fast and strong with good long range shots, I'm a sniper with passes, I can dribble past nearly everyone and I'm a beast with tackles. Generally everyone agrees with me and all the pupils think I'm good too. But the coaches don't think so and I'm still on the C team even though I'm better than alot of A team starters. Any advice to get the coaches to notice me? Thanks

      Numbers & Noticing - stats don’t lie so try to increase your output for goals and assists. Also, you only get noticed by doing things out of the norm. a lot of that comes from good risk-taking

    Hi Sam, I’ve taken a bit of a break from football as I fell out of love with it and I have big exams coming up. I find myself procrastinating nowadays and pretty much doing nothing even though I stopped playing football to zone in on exams. Have you got any advice for my situation?

      It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed, especially during exams. Always, always set specific study goals before each study/revision session to make sure you have more focus on the material you're covering. Also make sure to take regular, short breaks to keep yourself motivated - things like the Pomodoro technique are super helpful for that.

    Hey sam my coach and friends say i should play as cb and i even got called up to my youth team too for that position but i really wanna play as striker and score goals

      Goals are just a vanity and ego metric if you're someone who can have more of a positive impact elsewhere on the pitch.
      Think carefully about where can you actually stand out most on a regular basis

      Mental toughness is about feeling & experiencing, not ignoring.
      I.e. those who are mentally tough don't try to deny when they find something tough/difficult but they learn to accept it and grow comfortable with challenges
