    that's fair, I know what you're saying, and I agree that stylistically Marty led Megadeth to become more mainstream, but the upside of that was that they gained more fame and recognition from the mainstream, which now allows Megadeth to still be popular while maintaining their original sound.

    Mustaine just glosses over Nick Menza, because he did Menza wrong. If I could corner Dave in a room, I'd tell him that you need to show some class by NOT firing someone while they're laying in a hospital bed. Nick was having a benign tumor removed from behind his knee, and was recovering when he got the call.
    He would later cite Nick's interest in guitar as a reason, stating, "I want a drummer who is interested in playing drums." Nick was ALWAYS interested in playing drums. He was just branching out on his own, with guitar and acrylic painting.
    But don't tell people that it's about your ego, Dave. When you guys played in Helsinki, and Nick missed a note, you shot him a look. Later he told you to "NEVER shoot me a look in front of the fans." Nick stood up to you, and you didn't like it.
    Also, Dave, you don't later tell people that you fired Nick because he "lied about having cancer." He never did say that he had cancer. He was clear about the benign tumor behind his knee. Is this what you do as a "good Christian," Dave? Lie?
    Mustaine is a talented musician, at times, but that's about all he's got going for himself. This video would have been more honest if he had spent 2 hours talking about nobody but himself.

      "Also, Dave, you don't later tell people that you fired Nick because he "lied about having cancer." He never did say that he had cancer."
      Never seen this refuted by Menza...I have a few friends who knew him and liked him a lot. Obviously the guy could play! I got into Megadeth during the Poland/Samuelson era but the Mustaine/Jr/Friedman/Menza era was an incredible line up. Everything I've read about Menza tends to indicate that he was really good but a bit hard to deal with.

    • @ObsidianLife
      @ObsidianLife 3 года назад +2

      @Fillisel There are also the stories of how Menza refused to go on stage and Mustaine physically attacked him. Before anyone complains; yes, that is a problem but so is fucking with the whole band's $$$ because you don't want to do something.

    de grasso, might have been a "session player", but he was the only drummer that played exactly what Gar and Nick played on the studio albums. All the others just cheated heavily, especially Shawn. For the drummers out there, I am referring to the single foot plays on some parts on Wake up dead or hangar 18 and the begining on holy wars.Check out the drum tracks and judge for yourselves! Al Pitrelli was criticised of not being able to raise to the heights of Marty Friedman, but he was a better rhythm guitar than him and still a fine solo. He might have not play perfectly the famous tornado of souls solo, but still did great job, just watch rude awakening DVD, and concerts from 99-00 years. the problem is that Dave himself was/is an exceptional lead guitar player and is hard to match. personally I liked how Al and Dave did the scorpion on rude awakening.

    @MrCelestial1992 Yeah, since they've recorded their first album: Cliff died, kinda have to either quit or replace him...but up until that point both Cliff and Kirk contributed to the band in song writing. While they didn't let Jason do much and never really accepted him they stayed with him until he quit...then hired Rob, who already contributed to more songs than Jason did with his entire career in the band. In Megadeth's case, the band members didn't quit or die, they were FIRED, except Marty.

  • @HurricaneTBag

  • @HurricaneTBag
    @HurricaneTBag 14 лет назад +5

    @MrCelestial1992 Megadeth isn't really a band anymore it's a solo act. Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne have had a lot of line ups, they're solo acts, it's acceptable...most of the musicians there are really just to back up the singer. Which can lead to some solid stuff, but I'm more of a band guy myself. When members of a band interact with each other musically at a high level it's the best. Listen to Maiden since Bruce joined, the way Adrian, Dave, and Steve interact is perfect.

    @MrCelestial1992 That's different, it's one thing when you're a solo act, which one would argue Megadeth has become, to have a revolving door line up. However, if you're like a band...consistency in the line up really should be sought out. Metallica and Slayer have maintained a pretty consistent line up, which I think is a good thing. It allows every member of the band to get comfortable in the line up and start to contribute different pieces to the song writing and explore their own styles.

    It just clicked here that Nick Menza passed away a few days before my B-day and wow... ? What? He was part of the "classic" Megadeth line-up. I just want to say, "Hey Dave, this might a good video to take a few moments and comment here because that line-up was probably Megadeth's best". Who gives a crap about what I have to say?
    Megadeth fans would agree that we don't have to pick a favorite line-up, they were all very good... However, I loved the bit about Jeff and washing his hair? LOL, there is always stuff behind the scenes? A friend told me about it many years ago and I chuckled and totally thought it was bullshit! Turns out, true story... I haven't quite gotten into Megadeth enough to connect quite as well though. Metallica and Megadeth tie for the number 1 spot along with the first band I ever liked, Disturbed. "...the next two people that came in....". That tells a lot about how difficult it is to get along with Dave.

    best bass and drums to me will always be Nick Menza and Jr. I love Chris broderick but I still hate that Marty left. I wish they could have salvaged the RIP line up. Oh well, life goes on. I just thank Dave for choosing to press forward anyway, as long as there is Dave, there will always be Megadeth.

      The irony is if he did there's no way he would have stayed. You think Dave Mustaine is gonna do a St. Anger? No solos!? Get that shit out of here. Or a LuLu? Don't get me wrong, I like Metallica like any good metalhead. I just LOVE Megadeth lol

      Dave would have loved to do not only a Lulu but a Lulu part two. The guy can't let if go that Metallica gave him the axe.

    @OldVikingSchool no, i'm playing in a band cause i love music!
    I'm don't wanna disrespect Dave, because what he achieved over the years is something to admire. I'm just saying, that i personally am not a big fan of the guy, that's all. if you like him as a musician and person, then i respect that, but then you should also respect that i don't, and not start talking trash about me, when you don't even know me.

    @freaknbigpanda To be fair Dave wanted to sell records and what Marty wanted to do would have been more likely to sell records than stuff like peace sells.

    I don't think he was really talking shit, he was answering a difficult question as honestly as possible. He's a fucking musician, not a politician. He's not obligated to sugar coat everything.

    If you've been with many bands you're not a musician? You're a session player? Aren't session players like the best musicians?
    Well if a band keeps changing members it's not really a band. It's a solo act with session players backing them up, like gnr for example
