that's fair, I know what you're saying, and I agree that stylistically Marty led Megadeth to become more mainstream, but the upside of that was that they gained more fame and recognition from the mainstream, which now allows Megadeth to still be popular while maintaining their original sound.
Agree to a certain point, marty and nick did elevate the musiciancip, but mustaine wrote the songs, so it was both parts that should be thankfully for each other
Mustaine just glosses over Nick Menza, because he did Menza wrong. If I could corner Dave in a room, I'd tell him that you need to show some class by NOT firing someone while they're laying in a hospital bed. Nick was having a benign tumor removed from behind his knee, and was recovering when he got the call. He would later cite Nick's interest in guitar as a reason, stating, "I want a drummer who is interested in playing drums." Nick was ALWAYS interested in playing drums. He was just branching out on his own, with guitar and acrylic painting. But don't tell people that it's about your ego, Dave. When you guys played in Helsinki, and Nick missed a note, you shot him a look. Later he told you to "NEVER shoot me a look in front of the fans." Nick stood up to you, and you didn't like it. Also, Dave, you don't later tell people that you fired Nick because he "lied about having cancer." He never did say that he had cancer. He was clear about the benign tumor behind his knee. Is this what you do as a "good Christian," Dave? Lie? Mustaine is a talented musician, at times, but that's about all he's got going for himself. This video would have been more honest if he had spent 2 hours talking about nobody but himself.
"Also, Dave, you don't later tell people that you fired Nick because he "lied about having cancer." He never did say that he had cancer." Never seen this refuted by Menza...I have a few friends who knew him and liked him a lot. Obviously the guy could play! I got into Megadeth during the Poland/Samuelson era but the Mustaine/Jr/Friedman/Menza era was an incredible line up. Everything I've read about Menza tends to indicate that he was really good but a bit hard to deal with.
@Fillisel There are also the stories of how Menza refused to go on stage and Mustaine physically attacked him. Before anyone complains; yes, that is a problem but so is fucking with the whole band's $$$ because you don't want to do something. Mustaine's no angel but I don't think Menza was either...

He fired Nick while he was in the hospital, recovering from having a benign tumor removed from behind his knee. I could go on, but I just left a rant comment above. Mustaine is full of shit, and full of himself. RIP Nick Menza.
I think there's nothing wrong about firing Nick... Yes, Dave was an asshole back then and they were close friends as long-time bandmates but still, it was HIS band... I still feel bad for Nick though
@chapkoark Yea in all honestly I think Dave really loved Marty. For the fact that he was willing to change Megadeth's sound for awhile to accommodate what Marty wanted to do.

@OldVikingSchool no, i'm playing in a band cause i love music! I'm don't wanna disrespect Dave, because what he achieved over the years is something to admire. @freaknbigpanda To be fair Dave wanted to sell records and what Marty wanted to do would have been more likely to sell records than stuff like peace sells.
I don't think he was really talking shit, he was answering a difficult question as honestly as possible. He's a fucking musician, not a politician. He's not obligated to sugar coat everything.
If you've been with many bands you're not a musician? You're a session player? Aren't session players like the best musicians? Well if a band keeps changing members it's not really a band. It's a solo act with session players backing them up, like gnr for example

DAVE STOP WHISTLING AT ME.
@OldVikingSchool no, i'm playing in a band cause i love music!
I'm don't wanna disrespect Dave, because what he achieved over the years is something to admire. I'm just saying, that i personally am not a big fan of the guy, that's all. if you like him as a musician and person, then i respect that, but then you should also respect that i don't, and not start talking trash about me, when you don't even know me.
how many albums has dave released in the last 15 years compared 2 axls one
Relax, Dave. More fun incoming after this was recorded.
@freaknbigpanda To be fair Dave wanted to sell records and what Marty wanted to do would have been more likely to sell records than stuff like peace sells.
1:33 Dread And The Fugitive Mind
@lllLaquetepariolll He said Schemer not skimmer.....
I don't think he was really talking shit, he was answering a difficult question as honestly as possible. He's a fucking musician, not a politician. He's not obligated to sugar coat everything.
i was expecting him to talk about james, lars, and kerry king
Was Dave high in this video he seemed more animated and happy than usual
he never said anything about Nick...
so this was before glen left then? wonder what his thoughts are there because glen looked like the second coming of friedman on the one night dvd
See I wish Marty and nick would come back and make a new albumn called reborn since they are starting again haha cool albumn name right
+TYLER THOMAS no....
+jeannoel43 lmfao best comment ever
Nick can't come back cause is dead.
If you've been with many bands you're not a musician? You're a session player? Aren't session players like the best musicians?
Well if a band keeps changing members it's not really a band. It's a solo act with session players backing them up, like gnr for example
What was the song he wrote about chris calling him a liar?
Degrasso and Al was the next best thing after nick and marty..they had that sparkle of
rockin vagrancy...there was still a flame runnin with them..after that..no more magic was happenin...
@thehornypuppy I guess if they didn't leave with a huff/drunken brawl/drug haze/ money clash they won't get a mention :P
i liked nick too, gar and nick were both extremely good
