There are always more offline sports game players than online players, but obviously the money is made online through micro transactions, which means both end up sucking.
If 10 years ago, someone told me I had given up playing NHL and haven’t bought an NHL game in years, I would’ve called them crazy. Things have gotten so bad so quickly and I don’t see a turnaround. Idiots are gonna keep buying packs. The only way this gets better is if another company makes an NHL game
If EA listened to their fans then EA NHL would be on PC. Also, the game physics would be better including full stick physics. Doing a deke with the puck as the stick magically goes through players legs like they were not there has been an issue for over a decade.
Nobody wants those games on PC
@@baibureh8816 I do. EA has many games on PC including sports. It has been so long sense EA NHL released a PC version that I would bet they would have a nice jump in sales for at least one year. Then again, they are more focused on adding packs and B.S. so what's another 15 years. It's not like a ton of people went to PC gaming cause of how bad PSN and Microsoft Gold has gotten.

I miss NHL20 getting to the division 1 title game playing with my brother 2v1 or 2v2 in the HUT seasons. I hate that the game has favored the sweaty esports side, I don’t want to grind this much.
I think HUT still has some potential and a few good ideas like giving out tokens for grinding out modes like Rivals, Solo Battles, and etc for instance but the core of it so stale. To your point, the lack of comp seasons and more ways to grind out free packs makes playing games feel more like homework than anything to me. The sets themselves have been essentially the same for 8 years since NHL 17 and archaic even compared MUT and FUT. I think could benefit from something like SBCs that requires more thought into putting players into sets so they can earn a wider of variety of players and packs they can actually open.
Achievements have also taken a major downgrade steadily stripping away the amount of coins, packs, and players that can be earned by people that do grind them out. HUT RUSH is fun in spurts, but the lack of rewards most of the time don't justify the hours of grinding it does to get them. The content calendar is too stale to the point that HUT really only has 3 marquee events: Evos in October, TOTY, and TOTS if you keep playing to that point. I think the biggest for that is the power curve way too steep early on. Imo, outside of Evos, there is no reason we should be getting 99s until Team of the Season when the season is almost concluded. There are other ways that cards can be made end game without jacking their rating all the way up.
It's just frustrating that HUT has essentially been sitting on the same format since 17 and the same look since 20. If anything, the mode has only regressed in that time and it's frustrating to see as someone who's played since 14.
I play nba 2k and i have been since 2k11 my first one and i was strictly a offline player and the way nba 2k ultimate team or my team is nowadays, its such a bad place and its nothing but a giant monopoly and not what 2k use to be. Playing offline franchise or career mode was it for me for years and seeing what 2k is now its disgusting and 2k should be ashamed for this.
I played since day 1. Everyday. I got a 96 overall team if I chose to go all out and plenty of players maxed out. I spent atleast 600 this year in cad, during toty and tots. I only got atleast 3, 90ovrall plus from packs this year. And I got 4 99s but maxed Chara yesterday. Next is Quinn hughs. But I made a mistake exchanging my mcdavids x factor I got in mid november for tots mcdavid. I didn't have enough for the toty mcdavid after got toty ullmark and Toty natedawg. Austin Matthew's sucks. Word what a waste of time

That letter sounds legit. Coming from a development background and what he described is exactly how there software lifecycle. The only reason they give that free card in the pack store is to show/report that traffic is still even or a little better in the store at this point in the game. Name of the game is keeping that churn rate low and retention high. Strategy wise their top customer right now is everyone that started playing with gamepass, hence the recycling of previous events. Their shelf life should carry into maybe late July but that is pushing it since most are playing none online modes which are currently in a dismal state.
This video needs to make it to the EA headquarters. I genuinely just stopped buying ea games since nhl 22. It’s the same bs every year maybe just adding and subtracting things that shouldn’t have been touched to begin with. Love the video and was waiting for someone to let it be known. EA SUCKS😂
Plenty to criticize EA for but wtf was that part of some streamer reading some bullshit email? Taking that email at face value is kinda dumb, all there is to it. Draw the line somewhere.
Real or not, I just used it to put things in the perspective of the developers for a second, which people often forget about

Yeah, as some who watched that stream, I think he already made his point. There isn't much of a way to validate a lot of what he's saying even if it looks credible. I hope it is and as outsider to game development it looks real, but there isn't enough there for me to 100% believe that's an EA employee.

My only advice to anyone frustrated with EA, is to stop buying the games. It’s literally the only recourse we have. I know that it means sacrificing sports games maybe forever, but what is better? To have sports games that are more so just gambling simulators made by people who go out of their way to ignore their fanbase, or to have no sports games at all. Ea is banking on your ability as consumers to tolerate their lack of effort because they are the only sports game developers around for the NFL, and NHL. They are holding your love for sports hostage behind a yearly pay wall. We as a community need to show unity and restraint by boycotting this company, or else things will never get any better.

I’m going to keep the rant polished, this neglect from the “devs” has produced such a junk game play experience. I seriously say this phrase every game even if I win games “let little Trevor do his Michigan so he can keep his 500 record, now he’s hooked and playing the game the entire year”
If you watch the game with just the AI playing it actually looks like a pretty good game. Fast forward to “HUT” and we do just that fast as F*ck I didn’t think 85 base cards could be so fast with the servers we have. Blow by my 99 fantasy cards with full energy every game! Must have wheels on that 92ov damn that’s a good “card”

Well that explains it, just like everything else in life, all about money. I don’t buy “packs” f*ck EA… I flip cards and before anyone says I’m one of the guys that kills the game because you can’t afford the ones you want. I get it but… it’s EAs fault lol.
I see it this way if I play the game from the beginning then obviously I’ll have an advantage to gain “coins” early. One big thing in this $h*t format they have used don’t and I repeat don’t make master set players if you don’t like the player. I made three this year, I see guys with full teams of half made msp it’s a waste. Bank 500k then just keep recycling the cards. I love hockey and love to hate this game
The revelation isn't a revelation at all when you look at the UT revenue for the last whatever amount of years. EA "Extra Content" revenue (microtransations) has gone up every year since at least 2017. In 2023, that number was nearly $4.3b USD. UT is somewhere in the ballpark of 55% of all "Extra Content" revenue. Doing some easy math, that's about $2.37b USD last year alone. So, while UT might not be a massive success in NHL, it doesn't really matter, as that's the lowest selling game among games with UT, by a country mile. FIFA and Madden more than make up for it.
The bottom line is, if you're hopeful of things changing for the better, don't be. There are far too many idiots who can't control themselves and will spend thousands on packs every year. The game quality will only continue to get worse, because EA only care about numbers, and the numbers show they are being rewarded for putting out worse products every year. These games are slot machines first, video games second. The wonders of modern gaming.

The online community used to have a lot more people nhl games used to have a lot more people but since the game has been shit since nhl 13 or 14 the player base just keeps dropping off this game is trash

funny you bring up comp seasons. In hut champs there is literally a tab that says competitive seasons but there are never any lol. Just shows you how lazy they are

Epic gameplay just now, guys highest “card” 90 average offense 87. 89 aho faster then my 96 tots Fox, smoked me. I’m looking for that card now in the auction house . I was down 3 goals “magically” scored with 10sec to go in the third to make it 2-3 now I’m hooked for at least another few hours.
