Play a lot, I'm like somewhat new to guitar and would've never improved so fast as when I tried learning Waterslide. It took me very long to play it somewhat decently and slowed down but I would've never even thought I could do it. So I think just by playing all the time and doing necessary exercises for your weak points you can become really good.
