DIY Automatic Chicken Door Opener

This automatic door opener uses no batteries and no electricity. It is powered completely by chickens. I have used this since 2012 with three different flocks, and it works very reliably. The cost to build is less than $40.

Nice idea. I know some of the automatic doors can be pushed up from the bottom, and I wonder if a raccoon wanted in that they could indeed get in.

It’s a good idea but I think making their perch wider to a 4” so they can be more stable and have it level out when the door closes instead of angled down and leaning like that. IDK Maybe I worry too much.

I made this 15ys ago, but i used bottles of water as the counterbalance so I could fine tune the weight as the hens grew.
