I find for removing burrs it helps to use a wood chopstick in the bolt hole then use that to leverage it up grabbing the other end. Haven't tried changing the 83mm ones though yet! That worked on DF64 and P64.
Just replaced my stock burrs in my DF83 with SSP HU Reds.. I'm having a tough time dialing in shots, mainly because after I grind and I'm to coarse I can't go finer. The grinder makes squealing noise like it's at zero point, burrs touching. I think what's happening is that the grinds that get stuck between the burr and the three carrier posts on bottom carrier build up then prevents me from seeing it finer.. I use the belo after beans are ground and while still running but it won't clear the ground out from been the posts and the burr... I tried going course while grinder is running then go finer and grinder sounds like it's hitting the zero point (not 0 on dial, but new zero point) but I'm far from it on the dial setting. If I open it up and clean the grind from between the posts and burr, it's ok, but after I grind, same issue. What am I doing wrong? I checked my install and everything is perfect. Alignment is perfect.
@@bleezal I saw on another grinder where the carrier posts were higher than the bottom burr. Try shimming up the bottom burr to get them above the carrier posts. Hope this helps.
@@BillB33525 ah. Makes sense... I think I figured it out.. I crank the collar finer about 5 clicks before my known zero point and that clears the grounds that hangout between bottome burr and the carrier posts... Then move it back to my desired espresso setting... I think once the burrs get seasoned and oils settle in, this issue may cease.
Around 14:10 I see that you've forgot to fit back that black rubber o-ring into the bottom carrier
Thanks for showing the process! Even the mistakes are very helpful.

Are the Lab Sweet Cast Burrs available for the DF83 yet?
Thank you for this! Will be doing the same when my DF83 comes in.
Have fun! Looking forward to hear your thoughts
