An "8" is definitely the perfect score for this. I've played the original so many times and can't wait to replay this Remake again. They changed just about everything except for the original cutscenes which is no big deal for me cause the fight scene between Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth was truly iconic to watch. Sure it had it's small issues in this game but it's honestly nothing worth complaining about. The game is already perfect in it's own right.

The one thing that really sticks out to me is that the foliage and rocks look far superior to anything in FF7R. The foliage and rocks in Remake were actually quite low res looking and have a really poor level of detail compared to Reunion.
Well my friend, there are actually two reasons for that. Ff7r had much greater scale in it's environments, so the memory limitations on PS4 were much higher. This was rectified in the PS5 release and the PC version since they are much more powerful. With crisis core reunion they have kept the same areas and structure of the original psp game allowing for better memory management for textures and assets in the environments. So even on PS4 textures should not be too low res compared to the stronger console. Dunno about switch tho 😂

It is pretty clear why they wouldn't do a full remake - SPOILER: Zach surviving in the FF7 remake is going to play a big part in the sequels, but there was no need to do more than introduce/remind people to the story. We're all waiting for FF7 Remake Part 2, we don't need a full reimagining of this. I'm still excited to play this.

Because the original had a lot of text without voice-over. The Remaster has voice-over everywhere and if they'd kept the old voice actor certain bits would have a different voice.

It's a bait and switch sequel and this is one of if not THE worst prequel to any IP ever made due to its terrible characters, story and disgusting amount of retcons. Do yourself a favor and play the OG. It's regarded as one of the greatest games ever made for a reason.
If you must play one of those first I'd say go with Remake then Crisis Core Reunion. Ideally you would start with the original FF7 first, even if it seems outdated by comparison since "Remake" really isn't a traditional remake. It goes out of its way to establish that it happens after the original in a sort of alternate timeline with different events. Which makes it more of a sequel. So basically it doesn't replace the original outright. Rebirth is also looking to change more than they already did in Remake. Their justification being "both old and new fans don't know what will happen."
wow suprised that IGN has the most accurate review. Most people were giving this super biased nostalgia goggle reviews like 9s and 9.5 even though it's basically still a pretty dated psp game just with combat tweaks to somewhat modernize it

Loved crisis core on the PSP and super excited for this remaster on the switch! Can wait to play it.

TL:DR - If you want to play this on PC, it's a decent game. If you're planning on taking it on the go on your Steam Deck, it's amazing!

The PS5 runs at 4k60 fps. The Switch runs at 720p at variable 30 fps.
