Great video. Friends who served in the US Navy tell me they used toothpaste and brush on their white caps (sailor hats) to keep them white. You have turned me into a shoe enthusiast also. I have acquired three pairs of shoes and two pairs of boots on eBay at a fraction of their retail cost. I have started using Saphir products, and all my shoes now have a mirror shine. And I too get compliments. Thanks!
I used your video relating to Trickers and their Financial situation and an Accountant friend did an Excel Spreadsheet and I used it with some University students. The students found it very worthwhile.
Great ideas. I loved the one about changing the laces. I use an electric toothbrush but my wife uses a normal toothbrush. She wasn't too happy about it tasting of vinegar this evening though.
Just a note on blisters, cotton fibres swell and become abrasive with moisture, I believe some research suggested a polyester blend sock is less likely to cause a blister despite the idea being abhorrent.
Stick with wool socks. Good wool socks ventilate naturally, don't absorb moisture and last long. In the north, because of the moisture holding of cotton there is an old saying..cotton kills.
With white bucks, you can also finish up by using a chalk bag. It is a powered bag that you tap onto the shoe to hopefully keep it white. They are made for this.
As always great tips, Ash. With suede I tend to creep up on the stains. I start with a firm toothbrush and then go to a suede brush. If that doesn’t work I’ll go full brass brush on it. Also with smelly shoes I’ve used Philips Senseo coffee pads before. They also work very well.
Great video Ash! Splendid tips all. I love the Royal Artillery tie, very nice with the blue shirt and shawl collar...The epitome of relaxed elegance. Sir David would approve!
Thanks for all the advice. I wasn't aware of the patent leather care - I have been brushing them with wax polish. Likewíse the white salt stains and have wondered why they did not vanish entirely. I also have one pair of shoes with a funny kind of smell and I have tried putting coffee powder in them, but to no avail. I will try out putting them in the freezer tonight! The video actually combines all the advice given in 10 ordinary videos! Thanks!
Great hacks. Why rely on company products which cost so much yet could be harmful in the long run. I don't get many vocal compliments about my shoes but expressions show they are being noticed.
I am pretty sure this will not actually work, this is a common practice based on a Placebo. The cold will not kill bacteria, it will only freeze it (put it to sleep), but eventually the smell will come back again. This is a common thing people do with jeans.. and It doesnt work either. To clean dirt, you just have to wash it/ use a special cleaner. Just freezing the item will never cut it. For the smelly shoes, I strongly belive that the cleaners that you can buy in shoe shops will be hands down the best option (easiest). Take care mr. Chap and thank you very much for the videos!
Hi Ash, after cleaning my suede shoes in the manner you have described, i usually rejuvenate the materiel by using steam from a hot kettle. As well as bringing the suede back to life, it also leaves white marks on the leather sole and heel block edges, but these are easily removed with a slither of finger applied polish and a brush up! Its like a dry clean for your suede shoes!! Great trick.
Ash Nice cardigan i have the same, but in grey My gloves arrived and are chuffed, the colour was a little different than i thought, it was more red brown, but i like it
Thank you Ash. Great tips. I bought a pair of lightly used chukka boots on eBay at an excellent price on your recommendation. Love the idea of a brown suede brogue and laces tip! What type of jacket are you wearing? It looks great!

20 minutes of fun, sound advice and enjoyment! By the way, I find that herbal tea bags are superb for eliminating odours in even my smelliest shoes - handy, since tea bags should contain tea, don’t you think? 😆 Cheers, Ashley Jones MBE. It’s my pleasure to Buy You a Coffee.
I learnt years ago…(and I’m much older now ) , that if you want to understand a man…his professionalism, his ambitions, his wealth, his station in life… then look first at his shoes. It is his shoes that will tell all.
After watching hour channel, I've made my mind up and purchased a couple of pairs of good leather shoes. Clarke's and Loake. One is a wingtip brogue and the other is a slip on for informal use. I got them on a sale. They've not been used but they were last year's stock. The shopkeeper is an old man who told me a little bit of my beard cream would bring them back to life and then I can apply cream polish. Ash, would beard cream work? Is the old man right?
Why beard cream though? When there are such products as Saphir Pommadier Cream. I would stick to the known facts and go with a product designed for the purpose that you seek.
@@TheChapsGuide I asked him that. He said Saphir is expensive and I can get the same result with my beard cream. I am confused now. I don't think Saphir is very expensive.
I tip my well-pinched hat to the east, across the Atlantic, to the great Chap that has given us such rich culture from both the living & now the dearly-departed. Enjoy the video!
Hi Ash, a great video and sound advise as usual. Can you recommend a quality manufacturer of shoe and boot laces. Unfortunately mine often fray or snap when least expected.
There is another way to stretch your too tight shoes and that is to take them to a cobblers and have them done for you. This will cost you of course but not nearly as much as buying a pair of stretchers.
Break then in gradually, start with gentle wearing around the home and then progress to short walks and extend to longer strolls. If your shoes are the correct size, this should swiftly allow them to conform to your feet. If this does not help, perhaps you have the incorrect size.
When I see someone wearing nice clothes or a stylish coat and they are wearing old worn shoes there is nothing that can make up for that. It’s the foundation of your entire look.
Instead of a plastic bag, I once used a condom filled with water to stretch a pair of tight shoes. Worked like a charm! :) Thanks for another great video.
You’ve single-handedly turned me into a shoe enthusiast, with these videos on shoes and shoe care. Thanks for all.
Yeh - me too. I find myself looking at and thinking about shoes all the time. Call the men in white coats, quickly.🤣🤣🤣

You should start a Chap school
Great information sir!
What a storming idea.

Awesome. I have shoes over 22 years, cleaned and serviced. That has to be environmentally friendly!

What a great video! You have re-ignited my love of good quality leather shoes and these tips will help me get the most out of them!
Wow, some fantastic tips and tricks here!
You learn something new every day. Didn't know about the vinegar nor the shaving cream. Thank you Ash another great vid.
Starlight
Fantastic video! Have a pair of squeak shoes! Will try talcum powder
Excellent as usual...
Great video Ash! Splendid tips all. I love the Royal Artillery tie, very nice with the blue shirt and shawl collar...The epitome of relaxed elegance. Sir David would approve!
Hi Ash, really nice outfit and especially the cardigan. I'm actually looking for something similar. Cheers
This is some next level advice. Amazing! If only we'd known about foot friction in the old Nijmegen days, eh? Keep up the great channel x
Cheers Mike. Have a great Christmas buddy.

Nice practical tips!
What about having a spare pair of laces at all times for emergencies if you need to replace a broken lace?
Excellent excellent excellent shoe tips, Ash! Many thanks indeed
Great video, Mr Ash. I enjoyed very much. I'll be trying those shoe hacks.
Great hacks. Why rely on company products which cost so much yet could be harmful in the long run.
I don't get many vocal compliments about my shoes but expressions show they are being noticed.
People rarely comment if you’re doing something well, their silence means you’re making an impression.
Wish I’d known about the freezer hack years ago, I have thrown many good shoes away due to the smell over the years! Thanks Ash.

Dear Ash,
again a very informative video.👍
I'll try some of these out.
Best regards,
Mathias 😎
Hi Ash exellent tips given as always love the one about the laces which I've ordered 10 pairs of laces in different colours many thanks 😊
Thank you Ash. Great tips. I bought a pair of lightly used chukka boots on eBay at an excellent price on your recommendation. Love the idea of a brown suede brogue and laces tip! What type of jacket are you wearing? It looks great!
I like the coloured shoe laces. But think it would be better not to mix red with white.

Thanks for a very informative and useful video. How do you store your shoes to keep them protected from dust when stored? In shoe boxes?
Dust boxes from Ikea, cheap and fold flat when not in use.

Hi Ash, a great video and sound advise as usual. Can you recommend a quality manufacturer of shoe and boot laces. Unfortunately mine often fray or snap when least expected.
I usually go back to the manufacturer and buy another pair of the original laces - it may be more expensive, but you guarantee a good result.
@@TheChapsGuide , thanks for your sound advice Ash 👍

Ash Great ideas thanks for the tips. Cheers Ron
Cool. Thanks!!
Any tip to break in to your new shoes if it is hurting your feet? Applying face cream on the inside of the shoe helps?
Break then in gradually, start with gentle wearing around the home and then progress to short walks and extend to longer strolls. If your shoes are the correct size, this should swiftly allow them to conform to your feet. If this does not help, perhaps you have the incorrect size.
An eraser is great for removing stains on suede.
Morning Ash, just out of interest, what was your job role whilst in the RAF ? Many thanks
The highly glamorous Mechanical Transport branch. The elite.
Only one down from the SAS!
I guess the "trainers in the freezer" trick to get rid of the smell would also work for other clothes too.
what about shoe trees ?
When I see someone wearing nice clothes or a stylish coat and they are wearing old worn shoes there is nothing that can make up for that. It’s the foundation of your entire look.
I wear Church dress boots and Crocket and Jones brogues no one comments on them
The best way to care for your patent leather shoes is to throw the ugly things out.
A chap does not use shaving cream. He uses shaving soap.👍😀
A gentleman also uses leaf tea rather than teabags.
Instead of a plastic bag, I once used a condom filled with water to stretch a pair of tight shoes. Worked like a charm! :)
Thanks for another great video.
Great alternative idea.
What flavour?
George Boots?
Yes indeed
Freezing the shoe can't be good for it.
