I have the exact same Acura. Same year, color, etc., with 130k on it. It’s living in Northern California so no snow, ice or salt. I am constantly getting requests from people to buy it. This one of the most sought after cars around. Well engineered and well made.
I’ve had both, I’ve worked on both…after going through 3 Acuras and three transmissions I had enough and got a Subaru, not as pretty as the Acura, but a more reliable car overall in my experience!
9:23 Starting at the 2010 Impreza is when Subaru switched to the multi-layer steel gaskets which are much stronger. Seemingly though, there are some 2010s that still have the weaker headgaskets.
I have a 2005 TL w the 6speed . Its a Blast to drive. I dont drive it in the snow/ ice/ salt as I plan on keeping it . I love this car . Sold my Camaro w Lt1 , My Fox body GT Mustang and even my 2003 S2000 .
You are the ONLY person I’ve ever heard with a good review of Fel-Pro gaskets lol. I feel like they’re a common joke in the automotive community for being so notoriously awful. I also, cannot say anything good about them. I’m glad you had a good experience with them, but I know MANY other people (myself included), that they’ve been nothing but trouble. Just wanted to throw that out there for anyone else looking to get into DIY fixes, be wary of them. Great video though overall, super informative! Even as a non-Subaru owner, this was really interesting to listen to
One thing to watch out for on a lot of these double wishbone Honda/Acura's are front low ball joint. The front strut actually pushes down and pulling the ball joint away from the socket. The way to check for loose ball joint is to lift the car by the lower control arm and try to lift up the tire. I've see a lot of older Hondas on the side of the road with the front wheel folded into the fenders. The ball joints are literally carrying the weight of the car on the front. They've since changed the design to McPherson front suspension. Where the weight of the car is placed on the knuckle. So the ball joints only have lateral forces like 90% of cars.
You made a good point about the Acura not rattling going over bumps. I had multiple Nissan Maximas and Altimas and the rear deck would creak along with some part of the chassis / suspension especially when cold. My TLX is newish still but doesn't do that. Or if it does I don't hear it at least.
I have had 2 TLs. The first one was slightly damaged at 200K miles when I hit a coyote on the freeway, but the car was still running like a champ. I then bought a Type-S, and that one is about to hit 300K miles, purring like a kitten. The biggest repair I have had to do, is replace a failed alternator. Just a couple of tips, if you want to get a TL: Buy the manual model. If you must get the auto, get the 07-08 models. That's when they got the beefier transmission from the RL.
I’ve been watching your videos since i got my impreza in 2021! your content is super helpful and relevant for ownership of that car. coming from an rsx and having both cars as a headache from the start, i prefer the subaru platform but i can see why most would go with an acura. i use my car more as a utility vehicle, and i can’t say that it would be the same if i kept my rsx
I respect Subaru, they make good cars. The best comparison for the TL though would be a ES350 Lexus. So close in reliability but if you want more performance you’d get the TL and sacrifice some reliability and cost of maintenance. Acceleration though that 2GR is pretty close in the Lexus. I’d probably take the TL with manual Tran but if it’s for the wife I’d get the ES, Lexus auto boxes are better
Yea, it's vodo getting it dialed in anyways. Alignments and a/c I just leave to someone else, I can be mad at them not me, plus a/c recharge isn't THAT expensive at a shop, it's just a machine going at it 😂
The reason No Subaru should be compared to an Acura is because of 2 Reasons,,, Subaru drivers drive the same way as Yundai, Kia, Nissan, Ford which is like absolute Idiods on the road, 2ndly, Subaru cars have rust issues in the undercarriage above average and lastly almost as much engine failure as all Ford ecoboost rubbish cars, Top quality can be found in Toyota, eventhough they kinda make some ugly vehicles they're are of Top Quality along with Honda, Only certain GM cars are of decent quality, no other American car companies are to be considered quality, just GM but like I said only some gm cars, I'm only mentioning GM because if someone were to consider American they'll be the best choice in American cars, But on the Foreign side I'd say or insist on only considering Toyota, Honda, for quality and service and maintenance costs, I'm not gonna comment on BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, I do like BMW, Mercedes but again I'm not gonna comment on them, Nice Video

Until your doing annual head gaskets..

Pro tip, the lower control arms are usually more worn than you think, if available, get an all in one arm and ball joint pre pressed
subaru awd is great
Never use freon with sealer additives. They will clog the expansion valve and then you will be repairing the whole system. Been there, done that

You have to ask?
Just avoid the years where Honda was having CVT issues and you'll be fine.
In the beginning i was voting for the Subaru but no! He made it all sound so simple but that was A LOT to fix coming from a Lexus driver...
What’s easier to maintain engine wise, boxer or v6 Honda?
V6 Honda easily
