    This is the perfect 'blue water' yacht - for crossing oceans safely and in comfort! This weekend I visited Ellös, Sweden where they are built and I was impressed by the incredible attention to detail thru the entire yachts. These are built to sail with a family crew but also for the ease of maintenance. Every part that needs servicing - you can reach without having professionals cut the boat open.

    Nick, I noticed there's lots of rails & hand grabs though out this yacht. In the ceiling of the cabin, both sides of the stairs, and finally a chrome rail you used to take your last step onto the deck. They're everywhere. There are even 2 hand grabs on the swim platform to help get out of the water. Very smart engineering so passengers can negotiate their way around while underway. The solar panels are a nice touch too. ;)

      This boat, is the definition of a "blue water cruiser". Most of the bigger sailboats have the self furling mast. So you can sail the boat, with 2 people. My own fav boat, has to be the ExploCat 52. With a steel/aluminium Hull, build by García. Really hoping Nick would take a look at the Cat, one-day. Merry Xmas to all ⛄

    Saw this boat at the Düsseldorf Boat Show in Germany this year. The first boat I made a B-Line to. Absolutely beautifully built. What you couldn't show in the short time you had is the build quality. She is so finely crafted which is why HR are a premium brand. I compared her to an Oyster yacht, and although I'm English, as is Oyster, the HR is in a league of it's own and leaves the Oyster in the shadows. You can order this with a hard top instead of the canvas biminy, which offers much more comfort and protection. If you ever have the opportunity, visit Amel in France and check out their 60 footer. If I were buying, the choice would be between these two yachts, the HR 57 and the Amel 60 👍

    • @michaelellis7787
      @michaelellis7787 4 года назад

      Amal 60 is amazing, such a solid and safe design, as indeed the HR. Oyster very good and perhaps a bit more speed orientated.

    Such a far cry from my own HR experiences. The trusty 342 with tiller steer and hanked on fore sails aiming for the navigational challenge of East Cowes Marina. Crewed and skippered by what can only be termed the cast of The Last of The Summer Wine. That's includes me as one of the grumpy opinionated sixty somethings.
    And marvellously you sat on one of the "Terry Toronto" seats at the close of your video. Another excellent peek into the world of what ifs and maybes. If my friend Mr P is watching; "twin wheels Steve, what's not to like!"

    • @operator0
      @operator0 4 года назад +1

      Automated rigging is becoming much more common on higher end boats like this, but it seems that most other manufacturers are utilizing electric furling rather than hydraulic like this HR. I wonder which is better?

    • @krisushi1
      @krisushi1 4 года назад

      @@operator0 I have no idea sorry. My specialty is Recreational Vehicles on land, not water. Not to say I wouldn't love both. I just think that more people would look at purchasing sail boats if the rigging was automated rather than put up manually. I've been sailing previously and love the experience but the thought of putting up that rigging manually would definitely turn me off. You stated that most manufacturers use electric furling so there must be a good reason why. Sorry I couldn't help.

      Boats are expensive and require a lot of maintenance, and sail boats are no exception. That being said, sail boats, ideally, don't put many hours on their engine. A typical diesel engine this size should be good for 7000 hours or so before it needs an overhaul. It could take 10 to 20 years to get to those numbers, depending on how much you use it. It's certainly true that this boat could do as many as two circumnavigations before the engine needs that kind of attention, which would be about 10 years at a leisurely cruising pace.
      Of course, there are other things to break on a sail boat. The sails, for one, will need replaced a few times before the engine does. Winches, navigation equipment, pumps, all the typical boat stuff. Remember though, the bigger the boat the more it's going to cost to fix. Many cruising sailors sail around the world on boats much, much smaller than this one. Think 34-38 foot. Those are very common sized sail boats to see cruising around the world. Once you get down to those sizes, the expenses drop dramatically. The comfort also drops, but the capability is generally still there.
      If you're interested to see how a couple sails on the cheap on a smaller boat, check out Sailing Uma on RUclips. There are lots of other sailing vlogs on RUclips as well, including a foursome that sail on a boat the size of this Hallberg-Rassy called Sailing SV Delos. There's even a guy sailing a 31 foot boat with NO MOTOR. His channel is called How To Sail Oceans and he has circumnavigated the world in that boat.

    I think HR boats have the absolute best cockpit design. Plus they've moved the engine forward and have the gen set forward of the engine. It makes for a perfect owners/master cabin. That's a similar layout as the 40. HR boats are the best layout and quality. I want one!
    That boat is just under 3X the cost of the 40. You could buy two HR 40's and have $450k in the bank compared to that 56. I don't understand that? Doesn't make any sense...it's like the bigger the boat, the more profit they make.

    • @johanspangberg7976
      @johanspangberg7976 4 года назад

      Well I'm guessing it's a carbon filter system, judging by the grill just above the fan. Otherwise they would probably connect it to the out vent. You probably know this, but just in case that was part of your question, the engine exhaust should be located on the side of the boat, close to the cockpit.

      Well, It seems like Nick isn't a sailor (as in sail boats). He's really a power boat kind of guy. I would think you'ld need someone who has sailed offshore for a few months to understand what's really important in sailboat design. @@operator0 .. I totally agree. He produces such comprehensive videos of power boats, they are a joy to watch. I applaud him for expanding his horizons..

    Let me start by saying that I am a fan of all of your content on this channel. I appreciate that you are a motor boater and that your walkthroughs are geared towards accommodation and engines, however, yacht sailors are interested more in other areas; the hull shape, keel, single or twin rudder, furling arrangements, reefing set up, code 0 or spinnaker, anchor, cockpit layout etc, etc I know that all of this information is on the manufactures website, but if you want to attract the sailing audience you should try and add more detail. Lovely yacht by the way!

    Nice to have some comments on a sailing yatch. Narrator too used every second of his ten minutes fully presenting the boat.

    It’s soooo much wood!
    I know that the level of interior woodwork is supposed to indicate luxury and fine craftsmanship…but (unpopular opinion) for me, that amount of endless woodwork reminds me of the sort of decor when your grandparents stopped renovating their house back in the 50s.
    People rave about Hallberg Rassy woodwork but to me, it just looks hyper-dated. Prefer Oyster or Amel (in terms of interior decor).

    Nice boat.
    Nick, if there’s any good expedition trawlers down there (doesn’t need to be a Nordhavn e.g. a Privateer or something else) could you swing a tour on one (or two in one video for comparison)? Would love to see what the differences are and if there’s anything that out does Nordhavn 😁
    Cheers

      Yes I always love explorer/edpedition boats. I'd love to see a Bering yacht tour since they look like a Nordhavn but they have a steel hull instead of fiberglass and a more modern interior than you find on Nordhavn

      TheDestroyer32 yes I’ve seen those Bering trawlers, those are nice. Have you seen the Numarine 26XP? 😍. Only downside of that make is they’re fibreglass hulls. But wow are they sexy... not usually a thing you can say about trawlers lol. It’s as if someone explained a trawler to an Italian designer and Numarine is what they came up with, something that wouldn’t look out of place at Monaco 😂
      I live in Scotland so I’d love to see some boats that could stand up to the North Sea and be able to be built WITHOUT a bloody fly bridge or at least a soft top Bimini at a push. All the Nordhavn boats I’ve seen so far are good, and well thought out, but there’s other boats too. I’d love to see Nick tour them.

    Nick I really love watching all your boat reviews... as a fan, could we possibly see more on affordable secondhand sub 40ft motorboats please...? most of us will never choose or be able to buy new, so looking at the every mans boat you see up and down the pontoons across the uk would be great... ie Swift Trawlers, Beneteau Antares, Nimbus Commanders/coupes, just the sort of stuff you see tied up that you can actually afford and consider upgrading too... but keep up the great work!

      Happy to and have done, but they are ultimately never as popular, hence the emphasis on the top end of the market. However hang on in there, there are some very affordable boats planned.

      Wasn’t being critical, absolutely love your boat OCD... really look forward to your videos! Would love to see you doing more actual boat test reviews like you’ve always done for MBM 😉👍
