I don't know for certain, but if it is the same setup as my E55 AMG, there is a kickdown switch under the gas pedal that requires a little pressure. That will force the car to shift down a gear if you really want to get out of Dodge. The C and S are indeed comfort and sport, but the only difference between the two is that comfort mode does not use first gear. It's not a sporting transmission really, you have to use the manual mode to get anything like a sporty experience, and even then it will often refuse to shift when called upon. Would love to swap out that trans for something like a ZF 8HP, but of course that's way more work than it's worth. Honestly though this car seems way down on power. You can tell just by the way it sounds, let alone the obvious lack of beans in the footage. These cars have a few common power-sapping issues that are easy fixes. The Intake Air Temperature Sensor is one. They progressively skew towards higher temp readings as they age, and this ends up sapping power by tricking the ECU into thinking it has to cut timing to avoid detonation. They are cheap at like $25 or so, and super easy to replace. It's a 10 minute job with basic hand tools and no crawling under the car. Should honestly be a 5 year or so automatic swap. The electric auxiliary coolant pump that circulates coolant through the air to water intercooler is also a common failure that saps power by vasty decreasing the efficiency of the intercooler. They are slightly less cheap at around $250, but well worth it for the power gained, and not a difficult job at all. Around an hour, and you have to get under the car. My guess would be there is probably nearly another 100 or so HP hiding in that car waiting to be unlocked just by addressing those two issues. No exaggerating even a little bit. My E55 Wagon is even heavier than that thing and would leave it for dead. It had the same issues when I bought it.
Welp, just purchased an entry and didn't read the rules first. As i am in Florida I am ineligible AND I can't get a refund, lol. If win I hope I can exchange it, lol
I wonder if the center vents have the outside air blend like my Volvo of that era while all of the other vents from defrost to the floor vents are temp controlled. If it's excessively hot or cold outside, I normally make it the smallest amount of outside air.
I would LOVE to have this car!! But the first time it needed maint or minor repairs I would be in the poor house. LOL! And its even from Mercedes' sexy era!
The ride height and 'sport' and 'comfort' mode have no influence on the power delivery. These only influence the suspension response. And above 37 mph, your ride height will have adjusted automatically back to normal height. Only above 87 mph, the suspension will lower further by 10 mm for better aerodynamics. (This is not something the driver can adjust).
"C" starts you in 2nd, "S" is referred to as "Standard", which gives you 1st back & allegedly keeps shift points higher. Sport mode is separate & usually indicated by a button literally saying "Sport", but this is different among various chassis & options fitted. Then of course, there is an actual Manual mode which (if I remember correctly) depending on chassis, will either actually give you shifting control without interference (as on my C207 chassis), or will occasionally override your decisions (as it may on C215's). Sometimes Benz likes to tell you they know better than you hahaha
I am predicting this will be the lowest participation giveaway yet. People are rightfully terrified of owning a used AMG with 20 year old bells and whistles. On top of all that, its an automatic which while normally a plus, is a negative to enthusiasts. I get that we needed a break from non-stop LS fun, but this ain't it.
I'm guessing you may have never driven a M113K powered AMG vehicle (CL55, SL55, CLS55, E55, G55). I've had my CLS55 for 10+ years and it's one of the most reliable cars I've ever had. The engine is known for being completely bulletproof. Super comfortable and quiet when you want it to be and it will leave many LS cars in the rearview with ease when you want to. Adding a set of long tube headers ONLY will give you an additional 35-45 WHP, dyno proven. Although a manual would could be fun that's not the point of this car. Mr. Regular put it best in his description of who purchased these. Someone who wanted ultra comfort that can be scary quick at any second. Yes, the ABC suspension can be $$$ when something goes wrong (I prefer the Airmatic in the CLS55) but it's truly a car that can do anything, except drive in the snow, LOL.
@@mikem12406I genuinely wish you the best of luck. I really wanted that Gen1 CTS-V or the 500hp GTO. Instead I just got coffee mugs reminding me of what could have been.
@@MrSnowfordNo, I admittedly haven't. I am only 34 and don't believe in financing cars, so the most luxurious car I have ever owned was my 2012 Buick Regal GS. Loved that car. but the old adage "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes exists for a reason". Even if it we're as reliable as a hammer, the auto trans disqualifies it for me.
I'm a big fan of this style of car, Lexus SC 400, the Mercedes and their countless variety, Ford Thunderbird. Big fast comfortable cars to cruise, I can't do many track days/canyon nights rn so I hope to win this bad boy

The independent center vent heat is so that you can have the heater warming the car, but have cool air blowing on your face so you're not put to sleep
Awesome feature. Most cars just have face vents so you're either too hot or too cold, never comfortable.
Or have cool air in your face while keeping the side windows defogged.
If that's the same HVAC unit as in the S class of the same era, you can press the button labelled 0 to turn the HVAC fully off.
Old CL were a European Muscle Car with Spitfire engine sound.

I remember when these came out and I thought how nuts they were.
So do I, at 19, they rocked❤

I'd be happy to win this and put myself into financial ruin. Signing up!

Hi, great review! Could you do a review on the W204 facelift model for your next review video, thanks!

Good, better odds for me then. I would love an old AMG to drive on the weekends.
