There are a lot of kids out there whose dreams are to play in the NBA. For Chris McCullough, the likelihood of that dream coming true became more and more real as a New York City youth. At 6' 10", the talk was that Chris, with his athletic frame and gift for basketball, could go to the NBA after just one year of college. A true New Yorker at heart, Chris committed to Syracuse University where Carmelo Anthony won a national championship.
From the start of the 2014-15 season, Chris displayed great promise until one fateful January Night. During a game against Florida State, Chris sustained an ACL injury that ended his season. Moreover, his chance to play was in doubt. After undergoing surgery and evaluating his future, Chris announced he would entering the 2015 NBA Draft. The question is will he make it...
In Grit's newest series, "Next Up," we took a trip to NYC to spend some time with Chris McCullough. While there, we got an inside look into his road to recovery and the driving forces that led him to declare for the upcoming draft.
"Next Up" is a Grit Media original series following the journeys of college basketball players entering the 2015 NBA Draft. On the path, we check out their pre-draft workouts, get to know them on and off the court, and find out how they deal with pressure to make an NBA roster.

Grit Media Not so much that he's underrated, it's the fact he's coming off a knee injury, ACL at that, and most teams want someone who's going to be healthy day 1 and can participate in summer league. Not everybody is going to rest and wait on a player like how the 76ers are doing with Embiid. That's why Sullinger and PJ3 fell during draft day.
