Michael Eric Dyson ‘Tears We Cannot Stop’

  • Michael Eric Dyson’s July 2016 New York Times op-ed “Death in Black and White” goes behind the headlines of high profile deaths of black Americans at the hands of police officers, addressing the emotional roots and deep impacts of the killings, and the subsequent acquittals. It is subtitled “What White America Doesn’t See.” Now Dyson, a sociology professor at Georgetown, extends his case in Tears We Cannot Stop, a provocative and deeply personal call for change-subtitled A Sermon to White America. Dyson argues that whites who care about real social progress must face difficult truths, including being honest about how black grievance has been ignored, dismissed, or discounted.

2830 mt first comment was only 15 minutes in now I'm about 29 minutes in and the one, thing I really liked, going in was accepting to realize it does, affect some white people as well in that same level of poverty way of life culture or whatever they call it is in. As a white boy I can admit I seen white people being racist in tge pot from, being and I,dont even think it was talked about before like it wasnt planned just together came up with lie together with out saying a word to each other which should show the level of racism across the board of these co workers. But I also, seen white boy like myself breaking that racism in thier face publicly. Showing their racism and the other racist friends or white boys like ourselves know and all rebuke the rasict in public but you'll see the ones that are real about it quick (all this was in county jail btw). And as that white boy showing this persons racism I was then excluded as "white" person. While most of the whites are the racist ones because the racism is real in jail. Even this one time my friend Omar had court the next day asked,me,the day prior if I could cut it for him the day of. Fyi this jail, had a barbers shop and education to get your babers, licence. I was a vetran and had,my day clear you get,in a rhythm and have clients bscked up,months if your good and,I was everyone's go to. So,I was like, yea, mind you Omar couldn't speak english. Now we go,up the next day, oh yea I can bring people from my pod being a vet, I did,it the day prior but a white boy the CEO knew. We get up the screw, goes "who brought this one?" Talking about Omar but it was obvious it was me. I told, him what was going on. He told me "No, I got Adam,from,80 bed he has court next week I told him id get him up." Knowing,I,had,an,open, day.I was like ok ill get to him on are cut was easy bald fade with a 1 on top and shave facial hair, maybe 15 min tops. He says no,and sends Omar back to the pod, while,I,flipped, out and didn't,cut white boys hair and got kicked, out from, the barber shop and only had 50 hours LEFTlet me say that again 5 HOURS LEFT TO GET MY BARBERS LICENCE. I never was able,to,get my barbers, licence I didnt get back, into school in the time the state barbers association lets you before they don't accept that time anymore. So becaude I stood up to racism in jail from a CEO I didnt get to finish my education as a barber something,i loved, doing. If I was able to,get my barbers license my whole, life would be different I wouldnt be struggling, Fucking, crying, right, now. I'm,white and been knocked down,by time, and, time, again no,one, stood,up,for,me no,one, helped,me,or,claimed, racism, for me I wish I,could,be a,barber, and, because,I,lost that time I lost a full ride on grants I dont have any money work barley gets me by its hard to save anything lol I will say a lot has to,do with me,not being able to fund it and start from, scratch I,just dint ask, for, help maybe I A couole, years I can do it silver lining,in American,it can, happen, with time and, drive

@@leboholmes6576 I know man I get it. But the biggest issues facing the black community are being ignored, #1 absent father's, #2 single motherhood rates 75% is not ok and is the biggest factor contributing to the wealth gap between blacks and white. #3 literacy. Demand vouchers for black mom's so they can get their kids out of the shitty schools, and start instilling in black girls and boys the importance of education, and having role models like Thomas sowell and Carol Swain instead of 2pac and lebron. Start telling black boys and girls they can achieve whatever they're willing to work hard for, tell them to set goals and work to achieve them, tell them to not fall into the trap of the racism narrative it's harmful and a straw man. Tell them the easiest way to avoid interactions with police is by not committing crime. And if there is any way I can help black communities address those topics and work on the much needed culture shift by all means reply with links. I am more than happy to give to those causes, but as long as we focus on white priviledge and racism and straw man arguments that aren't real issues and ignore the actual problems the black community is facing, count me out on doing anything except minding my own business. But like I said if you know some organizations who deal specifically with the problems I mentioned please share the links I would love to make a donation to any or all.
You are your worst enemy sometimes. Black kids need encouragement, they need positive reinforcement, telling them the world doesn't like them cause their color is borderline abusive. The easiest way to get a child to fail and lose hope is by being an adult whom they love and trust that tells them cops are racist white people are a barrier the country wants them to fail. How are any of them going to succeed under those pretenses. The amount of potential, talent, and brilliance wasted by lowering a child's self esteem that way is a terrible thing. We need thier minds we need thier input we need thier innovations, thier contributions to every industry. Not one of them is worth giving up on. They have value and a place in every facet of society. Never should they hear that there is a barrier to thier success they'll never aim beyond that barrier. There is a change in culture desperately needed, and nothing will get better until it happens. We are all Americans at the end of the day we need as many Americans to succeed as possible to make America better. I wish you all the best and all the success that comes your way. Don't miss out on those opportunities because you're distracted by this shit show currently taking place

So unless you can point out to me specific acts of racism or policies designed specifically to be racist then your argument is shit. I don't care if I'm includes in the conversation either... As far as I'm concerned that conversation is none of my business it's between you and your community. You guys have a lot of work to do to fix the problems plaguing your communities problems white people didn't start for you as I already made perfectly clear. Stop blaming the world around you. Fix your culture that doesn't value the black family, fix your culture that doesn't place high priority on academics, fix your culture that doesn't stick around as a father, fix your culture that has black men out slaughtering each other by the daily, fix your culture that doesn't allow you to see that the problems in the black community can't be blamed on anyone else but the black community. So once again do you want to point out specific instances of racism or policies design to be systematically racist or just claim that they exist without evidence? It's not my responsibility to prove your disparity exists it's your responsibility to prove that it does cause I think it's all bullshit and lies being fed to you by your handlers which are a handful of blm wannabe revolutionary marxists. And I don't subscribe to that. So if you can't prove it then it doesn't exist and I rest my case thanks for the pointless input.

The following from Critical Race Theory: The Key Writings That Formed the Movement. This shows how CRT unequivocally promotes racism and segregation.
“The first is to understand the regime of white supremacy and its subordination of people of color, which has been created and maintained in America, and in particular to examine the relationship that the social structure and professed ideals such as “the rule of law” and “equal protection.” The second is a desire to not merely understand the vexed bond between law and racial power - but to change it.”
“This mainstream civil rights discourse on “race relations” was constructed this way partly as a defense against the more radical ideologies of racial liberation presented by the Black nationalists and Black Consciousness movements of the ‘60s and the early ‘70s. In the construction of “racism” as an irrational and backwards bias of believing that someone’s race is important, the American cultural mainstream neatly linked the Black left to the white racist right according to this quickly concealed consensus, because race consciousness characterized both white supremacists and black nationalists both as racist.”
“With its explicit embrace of racial consciousness, Critical Race Theory aims to reexamine the terms by which race and racism have been negotiated in American consciousness, and to recover and revitalize the radical tradition of race consciousness among African-Americans and other peoples of color. A tradition that was discarded when integration, assimilation, and the ideal of “colorblindness” became the official norms of the racial enlightenment.”
“A predominantly white left emerged on the law school scene in the late ‘70s, a development which played a central role in the genesis of Critical Race Theory. Organized by a collection of Neo-Marxists intellectuals, former New Left activists, Ex-Counter Culturalists, and other varieties of oppositionists in law schools - the Conference on Critical Legal Studies established itself as a network of openly leftist Law teachers, students, and practitioners committed to exposing and challenging the ways American law served to legitimize an oppressive social order.”
“Critical Race Theory indicates how and why the contemporary “Jurisprudence of color-blind-ness” is not only the expression of a particular color-consciousness, but the product of a deeply politicized choice.”
“The colorblind assimilationist ideal seeks homogeneity in a society rather than diversity. Such an ideal neglects the positive aspects of race, particularly the cultural components that distinguish us from one another. It may not be a desirable result those cultural components to be subsumed into a society that recognizes commonalities. The assimilationist colorblind ignores and thereby devalues Culturerace. The successful abolition of “Black” as a meaningful concept would require abolishing the distinctiveness that we attribute the Black community, culture, and consciousness. The abolition of a people’s culture is by definition cultural genocide. In short, assimilation as a societal goal, has grave political consequences for Black and other non-whites.”
It is a pro-segregation ideology for black people - similar to the Nation of Islam.

If that was the case, then all presidential elections would be determined by California, Texas and New York because of their dense populations. That wouldn't be democratic, but it would be mob rule. The Electoral College exists so that it can give the other 47 non-densely populated States a say in what they want as well and not be filtered out by the biggest (in terms of population ) States.
