I was so mad the second omnibus (OP) skipped issue 38. Their excuse for it was so insane. I still think they screwed up and forgot to include it because of the Outsider issue (they put the Outsider issue in and accidentally took the Teen Titans issue out when they did it). I really needed this overview, Omar. And thank you for voicing our frustration with DC for how they handled volume 3.
Skipping that issue was idiotic in the extreme.
Is there any big plot missed in that issue? That's my biggest worry buying these, does it have all the context I need/want to get a full grasp of the story? Am I missing any cool or important info?
@@Gibbypastrami The missing issue was a stand alone issue called "Who is Donna Troy" so you can still enjoy the rest of the omnibus without it. It's just that it is such a cool issue (and there was no logical reason it was skipped).

Gonna get the omnibus and then make a little folder in the back or front to stick it XD do they do this anywhere else in the series? Are there any other tangents I should look into?I saw the Teen Titans vs the X-men, those are probably expensive though, anything else like Batman and the Outsiders? Does that have Forager in it? Like from the Young Justice show? So cool that Kirby contributed all the cool stuff around the New Gods
Reading these Omnis is what got me interested in reading more Pre-Crisis DC books, and I'm so glad that I did. Sure most of it is corny and confusing, but there's such a wealth of great comics and history that I'd just been ignoring because they came out before Crisis.
Immediate pre-Crisis DC was a fantastic period. They'd completely recovered from the fallout of the 1978 Implosion and a lot of the core titles were strong, and still had hidden gems.
The Gerry Conway, then Doug Moench runs on Batman/Detective were stellar with top-notch artists. The Superman books were in an interesting place and the last chunk of Wonder Woman had finally settled into some quality. Bates and Infantino were telling the best Barry Allen stories ever as seasoned pros. Steve Englehart and others were making Green Lantern readable with a lot of focus on John Stewart and the cosmic aspects. Roy Thomas had his little Earth-Two corner with freaking Todd McFarlane. Levitz still on Legion. Moore on Swamp Thing. Underrated C-listers like Firestorm and Blue Devil.
That Street Fighter edit was legendary haha.
Hoping the omnibuses go all the way to Total Chaos. That original third volume is so emblematic of the disconnect and cluelessness DC has historically had about collections.
I would think that times have changed there by now, but we will see.
I hope they do a DC/Marvel Omnibus some day. Most of the crossovers have gorgeous art, and lots of fan service. If they do, do it they would probably need at least 3 to 5 volumes as the late 90s where filled with crossovers.

Sadly, unlikely. Both comics are owned by big companies that do not care for comics.
Right now, we have Joe Quesada and Jim Lee running the companies; both have worked for both DC and Marvel. If they are not doing it now, they are never likely to reprint them. It took the death of the great George Perez to do that Avengers/JLA limited reprint that not no saw on the shelves…
I've picked up all four volumes so far of this run on your recommendation and I haven't been disappointed. That George Perez artwork really shows up well in these omnis.

Great overview Omar! Been picking up the new version omnis, have vol 1 2 & 3 and planning to get 4 & 5 (so glad DC went back and corrected the issue ordering on the revised versions)

I didn't even see the pixellated effect on the spine ... love the Teen Titans (also enjoy the originals). Those bound volumes are amazing, truly wonderful work (at the same time, the omnibus oversize is always so good)

How in the world do these companies and book binderies/printers think that the mousetrap books are acceptable? I'd think if you were a collections editor it'd be a big red flag

Great overview of The New Teen Titans Omnibus releases Omar. I have the new printings of Volumes 1 and 2 also I have the recent hardcover of The New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. I need to get the rest of the volume of the omnibuses volumes 3 and 4 at some point these stories are so good especially early on. Keep up the great work Omar with your videos and reviews !!!
Great review. I can see why you have the official editions which are beautiful, and the custom editions which are complete. Best of both worlds. I remember reading this run online for the first time all the way up to I think around the time Perez left. It was mostly good, and hopefully I'll get a chance to go back and read it again. Wolfman and Perez were a hell of a team. I'd like to go beyond their run of course since I heard the title continued as a top book for a while. That reminds me, the thing that was a little frustrating to me was having to go back and forth between the original title, and the new title that they introduced to run concurrently. I remember that being a little annoying/confusing.
Yeah, its always frustrating going back and forth, that's why I like collected editions.
Scooped these all bad boys up; I'm typically not a fan of kid side kicks or kid characters in general let alone a team of them but the Young Justice show was so good.
Like when Miss Martian tells Robin she doesn't need a respirator cause her physiology will protect her and then Robin dryly replies:
"You haven't read a lot of Wells, have you?" Classic; I saw sold.
But I digress; they come highly recommended and may change my mind about these teen teams then we'll see how New Warriors stacks up.

New Teen Titans is amazing. Reading and re-reading these books is a real joy and I will keep them forever.

That day has finally come it seems. Of course now instead the actual Teen Titans omnibus and trades are mostly out of print so it seems a time of perfect availability will never truly come.

Ever since I was a kid, Teen Titans have been in the back of my mind for a while, but I never actually bought them growing up. The writing was really good, even when I was a kid with very little attention span, it still was able to keep me captivated while reading. That NEVER happens with other comics, cuz when I was a kid, I usually just looked through the pages to look at the art without reading. Not with Teen Titans, it was able to make me want to read the entire books. Proof that Marv was a master storyteller. Every time I go to the comic shop, I keep forgetting to get an issue of the New Teen Titans. I get mad at myself for not remembering to get at least one issue, and I go to comic shop about 3 or 4 times a year.
Love those custom bound books. I don’t like all those light blue spines though. They aren’t easy on the eyes for me. I like darker colors. To me, New Teen Titans is Marc Wolfman’s master run. Similar to Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing or Grant Morrison’s Doom Patrol. He, similarly to those runs, took an unpopular title and turned it into and incredible run.

Something people may not know who want to collect as much as possible is that the solicitation of vol. 5 of the new printings goes up to issue 49 of the 2nd series which is when the series changed its name to New Titans.
That volume has also been solicited as the final volume in this series.
However the original printing of volume 3 contains issues 50-61 and then 66-67
So for those completionists out there who want as much of this series as possible thats worth knowing in case they dont continue releasing these after vol. 5
TL;DR the original printing of Vol. 3 can actually be used as a Vol. 6 of sorts for the new printings

@@cluelessbeats That's not what Omar has there, his are original comic issues sent to a company to be bound into volumes, so no illegal printing.

To me, new teen titans was dc answer to marvel's x-men. Both were good, consistent art and writing that engrossed the reader

I have both printings of these I’m probably going to sell the first printing eventually, just don’t want to deal with the post office during covid. The custom books are great, I guess my one concern would be it devaluing the original comics used? They are sweet though.

The binder comics look very professional. Sadly, that ruins the value of the comics, especially that DC/Marvel crossover, unless you can get a collector that does not mind.
As much as I like Romeo Tangal, it is sad DC did not get the best treatment for Mr Perez’s art, especially inkers. Mr Perez only inked 3 issues of the comics himself - my favorite issues. Hated Mike DeCarlo’s inking over Mr Perez’s art.

Omar, i recently bought my own binding machine, but i cannot find thermal covers for larger than 1" thickness? So i only can make custom Masterworks at the moment with the 1" thick thermal covers i use. Do you know a website i can buy larger thermal covers?

@@NearMintCondition lol, the machine i use is the coverbind flex from mybinding.com and i use the stock BITHC100BK thermal hard covers from them as well. But i have to trim the hardcovers by hand as they are a bit too big but the printed dust jacket i make covers the trim job.. good enough for myself :) I can fit 10 comics in 1 binding.
I love that you're worried about spoilers regarding a 30+ years old story that's one o Batman's history most well-known events! It's almost like saying "well, I won't spoil what happens to Bruce Wayne's parents" ;-)
You'd be surprised the amount of times people complain when I talk about a story that's over 20 years old.
I agree about being mindful of spoilers. Although the stories are old, there will always be new readers who have never read those stories before.

The reason why I'm working on Teen Titans is because I just finished collecting all the Abe sapien hardcovers. so I'm working on to the start to do something that's like a little bit new

This is what bugs me about some DC collected editions, when issues or crossover parts are missing so that it doesn’t flow as well. Marvel always seems to include the other issues and crossover parts. At the very least there will include a recap.
Most of this series remains in continuity even after crisis doesn't it Omar? This was a fan favorite series after all.

How can I get the omnibuses with those issues missing? I’ve been collecting the comics. I do not have them all. I did not know it connected to Robins death. I was born in the 80’s. I remember my friends at school talked about Robin’s death.
The missing issues will be in the Omnibus 4 and 5. They are continuing putting them in good order.

Great video thanks! I have Vol 1 and 3 new printing and Vol 2 old printing (cheap price at comic book store lol) Vol 2 old printing doesn’t have issue 37. You mentioned this in your video but still don’t understand why. Can you elaborate? I bought first 3 omnibuses because they remind me of my years in high school when I read these and enjoyed the stories. Never read single issue of issues in Vol 4. Can I have your opinion on if they are same quality (story and art) as first 3 omnibuses? I’m asking ur opinion because thus far everything that you recommended and I purchased I have not been disappointed (although I don’t have near the amount of reading material as you do; how do you find the time to read all that stuff-holy moly!!! How the transition between pre and post crisis on infinite earth was manage for the new teen titans continuity? What about the fact that Batman storyline started again and that one of Robin/Grayson with the titans apparently not?
Not much had changed at all. Batman Year One revamped the series, but it still didn't change the past of Batman comics. The duo was still there. But Jason Todd was retconned and had a new origin and new look.

There is a secret world to collected editions. But keep an eye on eBay from time to time. They aren’t cheap.

You got examples as I just got the recent printing in?
I began reading the first omnibus and I couldn't get into it. I got past the first encounter with Trigon and into the arc with the toy builder assassin dude and I had to put it down for a while. None of the characters are especially likable to me Beast Boy's (fuck calling him changeling lol) quips are pretty lame, cyborg just comes off as bitchy, and raven and Robin barely have personalities and Wonder Girl is ehh. Wally and Starefire are cool though !
I hear it gets better but Idn if it should be mentioned in the same league as Clermont's Uncanny X-Xen, Marv Wolfman's dialogue just comes off as dull. However, art is top notch 👌I'll go back to it one day though.
It gets better and as far as the writing. It's so 80s.

Depending on the format and where. Around 40 to 100 dollars each. That's not counting the issues you have to buy.

I like omnis but I don't approve of custom binding single issues.

I actually got vol.1-2-3 for about 60$ each, so i don't mind the holes
