    Probably one of the funniest bits about the extra content in the manga is the fact that Laios met Shuro absolutely randomly, he walked into the bar looking for someone to join his party, saw that Shuro was a foreigner and immediately began to bombard him with questions and just talked for hours. Normally anyone would have told Laios to stop, but Shuro being so restrained gave Laios the illusion that he accepted him. He was so convinced that in his mind Shuro had already agreed and the next day he just grabbed him and introduce him to the group, and the rest is history

    Kabru was great this episode. He was the only leader who was focused on the task at hand when Laios and Shuro were still hesitating to harm Falin while she was on a killing spree. What I find interesting is that Falin doesn't attack her own party. When Marcille calls out to her she hops down with a smiling on her face like she's happy to be reunited. When Laios approaches her she calls out his name. All of her violence, was retaliatory. The ninjas probably attacked her on sight like the harpies, and after she landed she didn't attack until she was attacked first.

      To add onto this, watch her reactions when she encounters the water spirit and even the kobold. She's just curious, they're new and interesting to her. It's only once they injure her that she's just like "alright, dead now".

    • @ma.2089
      @ma.2089 9 дней назад +4

      That’s very interesting. I think that the fact we don’t see how the first death happens helps to push this idea too. We don’t know who attacked first, but the second she responded with such violence of they immediately treated her like a huge threat. It seems similar to what’s going on in the orcs vs humans/elf storyline.
      Tho I will disagree about how she didn’t attack until after she was attacked after landing. She literally crushed Maizuru under her heel. It’s highly possible she did act in self defense, but we never saw who landed the first hit for a reason.
      Theres a consistent theme of racism in this story, judging ppl by their race and in some cases judging ppl by neurotypical standards, like Laios’ autism and Kabru’s obvious masking.

    • @ma.2089
      @ma.2089 9 дней назад +2

      Also, I should mention Laios calls out to her and her dragon eyes disappear.
      When Kabru attacks, she explicitly kills only him and not Laios. Not saying Kabru is in the wrong, as he literally says that the reason why he’s fighting is cuz Falin is killing ppl. But it’s def interesting that she doesn’t act violently unless explicitly attacked. And the only reason they start attacking her is cuz she brutally murdered someone
      Who started it is unknown, EXACTLY like the orcs. Damn this story is good.

    • @Ash_Yu
      @Ash_Yu 9 дней назад +6

      @@ma.2089 There is some intentional ambiguity for sure, but I have to imagine the ninjas would attack a monster like Falin on sight. Just like they would any other monster. Maizuru was caught on the rooftop, implying she was part of the harpy attack team Falin was already finishing off.
      What I meant before was, Falin didn't attack anyone that wasn't from the harpy team until she was attacked first. (And its very possible the harpy team had attacked her first.)

    Unfortunately, not only is Toshiro from a Japan-esque high-context society, but he's from the ruling class within that society which holds stoicism as a virtue. Note that Maizuru also said that Toshiro grew up as rather withdrawn (possibly with his own form of neurodivergence, its not clear), it kind of hints that he adapted and acculturated overtime. While Falin shares a lot of similarities with Laios, she is aware of social cues and better at interacting with people. She is just weird enough that people would describe her as a bit quirky. Laios on the other hand can be oblivious to the point of being offensive, as demonstrated in the holy ice cream episode when he said something like "wow we wouldnt be able to have this tasty food if Falin was not eaten" that even Senshi went wtf bruh. So I don't find it strange that Shuro fell in love with Falin but has a lot of reservations about Laios.
    Laios and Shuro are just two good hearted people with some misunderstandings.
    And Kabru even has the protagonist's tragic back story, in another world, he would be the main character lol but here in this story, as an actual sensible person, he is suffering lol

    Laois is an obviously neurodivergent dude and all of his issues are valid, he was never told that he was annoying he was simply excited to interact with another person his age and also make a friend! While Shuro also has valid issues with Laois being pushy and not understanding him because of their cultural differences! I think the way the Eastarn people behave is very interesting in this series because it’s very much made clear that they are completely disconnected from the island this story takes place on (hence Shuro telling Laois he can flee to the east if they need to)!

    There's actually a lot of nuance to Toshiro that's explained in bonus chapters of the manga.
    He was essentially raised by Maizuru, who's his father's mistress. It was an open secret. When he found out about it, he keeps his distance from her. She also effectively TRAUMATIZED him with an illusion. (You'll see later on.)
    Toshiro and his brothers grew up in their father's shadow, Toshitsugu. (Which is hypocritical since their father is scruffy, a careless drinker and prone to make mistake, but charismatic.)
    His father sent all three of his sons, because he viewed them all stubborn and didn't want a dull man to be the next head, on a journey to find "something interesting" in order to inherit the family.
    Growing up, Toshiro loved bugs, but that would scare off any friends, girls especially.
    So in short, Toshiro grew up lonely, reserved, and to be polite.
    Hence why he couldn't stand Laios and envies him. Also he never DIRECTLY told Laios off. (Also didn't help Laios's autistic tendencies wouldn't be able to see that.)
    It's also why he fell in love with Falin. When he saw her with that caterpillar, he projected that HE was that bug.
    If Falin could admire such a small and pathetic creature, why not feel the same for him? However he did NOTHING to court her, feeling safe and secure because of that one moment.(🙄)
    Also funny detail.: Mickbell (the half-foot in Kabru's party) was going on about how awful Chilchuck was. Yet here they were talking crap about others like the little haters they are!😆
    You're right about Kabru. He is a people-pleaser. It's how he survives.
    Don't worry about Asebi, she'll be around…

    As an asian with AuDHD, I find Laios's situation with Shuro stings, like it really hits too close to home. We Asians have this tendency to beat around the bush, bottling up everything before exploding. Shuro never once tried to directly confront or correct Laios about anything, not even about his own goddamned name. Not that Laios was faultless, he has a lot issues himself, but Shuro is definitely the worse out of the both of them.

      "F*** dropping hints, talk to me like a human being!!!" Exactly! SOS can probably see now why so many neurodivergent/AuDHD folks relate to Laios and how well he's depicted as such here, people often take autistic and ADHD people for granted as frustrating and clueless when we don't pick up on social cues, when we just need them properly SPELLED OUT for us instead of relying on the hints that it's easier for neurotypical people to pick up on. I'm autistic, and people like Shuro holding in their resentment at our behavior instead of just USING THEIR MOUTHS and realizing they need to communicate with us a little more blatantly and clearly are very common, so this sort of media representation making the issue so clear to the viewers had me pumping my fist. :D
      I'm so glad that this manga/anime goes out of its way to spell it out and have Shuro sort of learn his lesson, just like the Laios's other party members are gradually learning about him.

      Maizuru said that Shuro himself grew up rather withdrawn. Which hints that he himself had to adapt to his own cultures social mores. Particularly since he was born into a noble family. He can't really relate to Laios who literally left both his hometown and the army instead of conforming.
      Laios might be one of the protagonists, but he's not necessarily in the right. He himself has shown character flaws. Notably by his inconsistent treatment of the danger of monsters (called back to in this episode).
      Chilchuck in particular noted his lacking social acumen as a handicap as a party leader. Kabru picked up on it as well.

    actually about chimeras in a discord server i'm in there's an idea taking route that chimeras just HAV feathers and aren't like just the result of some feathered thing being mixed in with falin and the dragon. Which makes sense, because why WOULD the lunatic magician given falin random feathers?

    whats funny about shuro is that falin has alot of the same traits and interests as her brother, shes just a little more subdued about it and slightly better at social interactions. but many of the quirks shuro likes in falin are the same ones he dislikes in laios. shuro is just so blinded by infatuation that he's overlooked the fact that the siblings are cut from the same cloth.
    it shows that he didnt really know her very well before deciding he was in love with her, which might be one of the reasons why he was able to give up and return to the surface when the situation started to look hopeless. not saying that his love for her isnt real or valid, but its more of a surface level love that hasnt dug deep enough yet for him to really understand the other person or be willing to risk anything for her. he certainly cares for her, but he hasnt spent enough time for their bond to be at that level yet.
    also, idk if this is real so take it with a grain of salt, but i saw someone say in a comment somewhere that the manga author revealed that if the siblings genders were swapped, he would've liked laios instead of falin. if thats true, it just goes to show that shuro is more enamored with the idea of a girl being so different than what he expects girls to be like than he is with her specifically. the manga goes into more detail about why shuro started to like her and its mostly because he really liked bugs as a kid. when he saw her looking at that caterpillar like it was a precious jewel he decided he was in love with her right then and there lol

      I'm not sure if the author confirmed that but there was a little side comic where a magic mirror shows little glimpses of what would change if certain characters were gender swapped. There's a panel with female Shuro talking about Laios, which doesn't have any dialogue so it's a little up to interpretation, but it seems that Shuro was uncomfortable being around Laios still.

      It's a common misconception. That side story actually shows that Shuro being female would've make the situation even worst since it just seems like a random dude constantly harassing a girl who wants to be left alone. Not a good look for Laios.

    • @nicholasso8560
      @nicholasso8560 9 дней назад +7

      Given how shocked Hien is when Shuro admits liking someone (Adventurer's Bible 9) it's safe to say Falin is Shuro's first love, and so his idea of love may indeed be a bit immature. That said, there's literally nothing wrong with finding traits endearing in one person and annoying in another. Motherliness from my mother is great, for example, but I'm not looking for a motherly friend. And besides, Laius and Falin really don't compare, from Shuro's perspective. Laius is constantly in his face, Falin seems to have the sense and reserve not to be, and that makes all the difference. There's no space to appreciate Laius' charms when his entire social presence is an offense to Shuro.
      Turning back is a totally pragmatic decision that says nothing about the depth of his love. His party's spent blood and supplies on a wipe and recovery, he's just lost a fight he would have won against Laius if he weren't hungry and exhausted, and the only "plan" to save Falin is to do the unimaginable and defeat or negotiate with a madman who's previously mopped the floor with the party whose this plan this is. Even if there were a more reasonable-sounding plan for Falin, Shuro's situation would not improve without rest and resupply.
      I believe the comment you're talking about is referencing a comic (47.1 on mangadex), not word of the author. I'll echo Luis above and say that, as the crucial panel lacks dialogue, it's unclear if Shuro(ko) is infatuated or uneasy (I lean toward the latter, as Laius observes that in this bizarro world, his relationship with Shuro is no better). I can recall no instance of Shuro showing personal interest in bugs. Would appreciate a reference if you have it.

      Actually it's the opposite, the mirror showed a woman Shuro, and as OP said there were no dialogue but it showed in bubble how she seemed to crush on Laios while blushing while telling the other girls, with Marcille reacting with shock and Falin with a mix of discomfort and disgust like "Eeh, really... ? Him... ??"

    I honestly don't think Shuro really got Fallin either tbh, because while we haven't seen that much from her yet, she seems... very similar to Laios, personality-wise. That scene with the bug kind of implied to me that he wasn't thinking about her as much as what he expected her to be. Idk.

    From this moment, I felt Shuro was so hypocritical because Falin, in essence, is EXTREMELY SIMILAR to Laios in personality. Perhaps slightly more soft-spoken/less hyper than Laios can be, but boy did it bug me and make me laugh at him to see him hate Laios, but randomly proposing to Falin.
    It might be a stretch, but by that logic, it seemed to me Shuro cared nothing really for her personality, but more for her general appearance.

    • @stomyn
      @stomyn 9 дней назад +5

      Exactly. Oddly enough, everything Shuro hates about Laios, he loves about Falin, but because she's all cute and stuff, it's endearing coming from her, and annoying coming from Laios. Either that, or he never really noticed all that stuff in Falin and just fell in love with some idealized version of her he built in her head, never really understanding the real her

    • @cooliceprincess2641
      @cooliceprincess2641 9 дней назад +10

      I don't really think that's in any way hypocritical. While Falin has very similar personality beats, the fact that she is slightly more socially adept and reserved makes a BIG difference in how their interactions go. Toshiro dislikes Laios because in his denseness he invades his personal boundaries and ignore his social cues all the time. Laios' energy also tires his very introverted disposition out. Falin never invaded his space, assumed things about him, badgered him about his homeland endlessly (and in the process be culturally insensitive), nor stretch his social battery thin. This difference between her and Laios may seem trivial, but it allows Toshiro room to get to know her and her "quirks" comfortably in his own terms, as opposed to the way Laios energetically shove it to his face against his will. Her being less energetic also makes her presence much less socially draining for his quiet personality. Altogether that paints Falin in a much more positive light in his perspective. Toshiro was indeed at fault for not being upfront with Laios, but his annoyance was totally valid.
      I do think his feelings for Falin doesn't go very deep, and is more an infatuation than love, but I think he does feel comfortable around her and appreciate her as a person. Plus she likes bugs; an interest he shares. I think that's enough reason to have a crush on someone.

      Falin is able to consider whether his attitude is disrespectful to the other person. That is why he held off on responding to the marriage proposal. He was able to consider whether accepting Shuro's proposal without being clear about his feelings for him would be disrespectful to him. Laios, on the other hand, was unable to do that. That is why he is disliked, persecuted at school and in the military, and criticized within his party. We should not ignore this difference and defend Laios.

      @@sarafontanini7051 Eh, I agree that Falin doesn't consider him a close friend by any means, but she has high empathy, and definitely cares about everyone in the party as her friends. Toshiro did try to spend time alone with her (before Laios interrupted), so she is at the very least comfortable to talk alone with him. She also helped him through his monster-induced nightmare, so she knew him pretty well.
      I do think she doesn't even remotely return his feelings though 🤣

    Ironically, shuro just giving up on falin and saying she should just die shows how little he cares about her compared to the others. She's just an idea to him, he'll be sad when she's dead but that's about it. But Laios and the others are willing to do whatever they can to help her.
    also "fight the mad mage and save falin" is way more of a plan than "i dunno kill her and leave I guess". That's just my opinion as a Shuro Hater.
    also of COURSE shuro wasn't that serious about it. He chose to LEAVE and hire a group of ROOKIES (its clear to me his team have NEVER been in a dungeon before) who don't now shit about falin rather than trust in his experienced coworkrers who were close to falin. Dude let his animosity towards laios cloud his judgement and blind him.

      Shura Hater gonna Shuro Hate I guess but it’s clear that his “Inexperienced” team as you put it are far more capable than most dungeon delvers and 100% would’ve been able to take out the Red Dragon if he got that far. Not to mention he went days without food or sleep just to get to Falin, a journey that the earlier half of this season has mad clear is no small task. To say he cares little about her is absolute nonsense fueled by clear bias. Killing her and freeing her soul from the dungeon would be a merciful act and of course Shuro wouldn’t go for a plan that he doesn’t believe will work or will cause more problems, he’s made his lack of faith rather clear

      In the bonus manga "If Shuro and Laios were good friends" drawn by the author and attached to the anime DVD, Shuro is shown to take his retainers with him to rescue Farin, even if he gets along well with Laios. It is a completely rational decision, and has nothing to do with his resentment towards Laios. Just imagine it. In that world, black magic and monsters are generally hideous things. It is natural to want to at least kill the girl you love who has turned into a painful zombie or Frankenstein's monster. Please look at it objectively and realize that it is only some perverts who think that it is a "cool design". It is childish to be only devoted to the protagonist's point of view.
