    When I got married on the beach, (February 2022) my wife and I put this song on after my good buddy was done officiating the service and we jumped in the ocean together. We're Swedish so the cold doesn't bother us. Everyone was dancing in the beach and we were married and swimming in the calm sea 🥰❤️

    For those that are sceptic and celtic :), this tune was composed by a québécois, Simon Riopel from Gatineau. People there call it "la toune à Simon". Reels and jigs are the preferred traditional tunes in french Canada. French are good composers and good fiddlers. So are the immigrants and the first nations. Jean Carignan played before the Queen and learnt from listening to the greatest scottish and irish fiddlers ever. He played a concerto with Yehudi Menuhin. Congratulations to Imar. You're outstanding musicians. Tapadh leibh! Tha sibh gràinne-mullaich luchd-ciùil! Merci. Vous êtes des musiciens hors pair!

      I heard Menuhin try to play Scots fiddle, in a very intimate setting. He'd recently taken lessons from the great Hector McAndrew for a TV series. I was attending a "smoker" during the Edinburgh Festival - a free stage in a courtyard where people could promote their shows. There must have been 20 people there. And suddenly Menuhin steps onto the stage. He said he wanted to try performing the music but as a beginner didn't feel he could ask people to pay. He was awful - he just couldn't loosen up enough to play traditional music and the result was wooden. Many classical musicians are great fiddlers, but not Menuhin. He did the same to Hot Jazz when he played with Grappelli. He loved both traditions, but just didn't understand how to play them...

      @@tullochgorum6323 Thank you for your comments. Very interesting. Talking about the concerto, Menuhin and Carignan played at turns on différent music. That might explain what you are saying. Carignan on a music composed for him by André Gagnon for the occasion and Menuhin on, what seemed to me, a more classical music from his repertoire. Tioraidh!

      @@grenierguy4652 Menuhin was an ever-present in Edinburgh where I was brought up. I knew a couple of people who studied with him - said he was a very lovely man but quite bonkers and had some dogmatic and extreme ideas about left hand technique. They both said they enjoyed their lessons but pretty much ignored everything he taught them...

      Yup - but this tune comes from the French Canadian tradition. This idea that there are "pure" national traditions doesn't hold up - people have been swapping good tunes for ever. Plus this group is a mix of Scottish, Manx, Irish and English musicians so it's already a fusion...

    • @chelseasleep6769
      @chelseasleep6769 3 года назад +8

      Yes, and Canada certainly isn't made up of only Scottish and Irish immigrants. There were the first nations people here before everyone. Then the Europeans came, and others from all over the world. Canada is a wonderful mix of hundreds of amazing cultures and traditions and the folk music of Canada is SO lucky to have benefitted from the diverse influences of all of them!

      and they also speak a bit of french there, and they also play celtic music, they are called "les Cadjins" instead of "les Canadiens",
