For twenty years I thought I lived in Ireland ,until I first set foot in Doolin .Then I was absorbed into the mist ,the roaring Atlantic ,the cliffs and the music of the people and the past.

Communal music is just in Irish veins. This is as poignant as when man first discovered fire. We first found the warmth for our bodies. We then contemplated its light's mystical wonder. And finally recreated this warmth, this wonder to lighten our souls in fellowship.
As I already said, Celts are for music as music is for Celts. It's in your DNA. They have an excellent musical ear, the joy of those who are well with themselves, play wonderfully and still dance! When they get together (excuse me for putting my beloved Sociology in the conversation) it is what I call "true social cohesion!" Carefully Maria Costa
Just stumbled across this and it made my night. Absolutely heart squeezing, thankyou for sharing your beautiful bond and incredible music. Much love from Australia! Come play at our pubs anytime :)
@@ustadx Why such bitterness, why not trying to live now peacefully, of course not forgetting the past but looking forward for better present and future
I have more future than past ahead of me and I'm 79 Y.O. now. I have no idea if this is the first time I've been on this planet or not but I believe I'll spend a long time with a good friend of mine for thousands of years up above.@@seunamteundroup
Dear friend, just now I saw your comment, so I apologize. The Celts blinded the Iberian Peninsula 2000 years ago so it is perfectly natural for the friend to feel that blood flowing through his veins. They call themselves the "northern Celts", nicknamed us "the southern Celts". We really have a lot in common and if we are going to unveil the principle of principles, think about the social organization, the cult of Mother Earth for good sowing, the bonfires of São João and why not a good beer and ... live the joy! I had a Basque grandfather who never left the typical black beret, and his father was Catalan. We just had a never ending conversation about our "peninsular affinities" ... aunts speaking Euskadi, Catalan and Portuguese ... we all got along in big houses, with big tables set for one more to arrive ... Thank you for your comment. It is "the little big things" that make us happy. Maria Costa
maria teresa gomes me too, I am welsh with Cornish father and I’m married to a Scottish lassie who spent part of her childhood in Catalonia. I speak Welsh, English and Portuguese she speaks English Spanish and Catalan. There are links between all these small nations culturally but if you want to delve further there are links between all of Europe, Scandinavian folk music is similar to Shetland music which is similar to Scots/Irish music which is similar to Northumberland, galego, Asturian, cantabrian, Breton, Welsh, Cornish: which are similar to English, french etc. There are links everywhere, it’s not just a Celtic thing.
Pat Aherne I meant Scots and Irish music. As in Shetland music is similar to Scots and Irish music. Yes I know Shetland is part of Scotland but musically is it’s own thing.
I know you posted this 5 years ago, but have you heard of the Dublin Irish Festival in Ohio? Some of the best artists worldwide perform there every year (Altan, Young Dubliners, Old Blind Dogs, Dervish) and there's usually over 100K visitors. I've been every year for close to a decade and it's always a blast. Beer on tap, seven stages, tons of booths and things to check out, lasting a few days.
Siete un gruppo meraviglioso, suonate una musica incantevole da ascoltare vicino ad un camino acceso e bevendo una birra fresca con amici e amiche. Tutto questo proviene dal vostro cuore e dall'anima che c'è in voi. Grazie mille ciao.
I lived in Doolin in the summer of1986, worked at the Bruch na hAllia next door... Went to O'connor's every night for the sessions and craic ... Peder, Niall, Owen, Martin, Susan, Donal to name a few ....so much nostalgia 💚🇨🇮
Kathleen K Lucky you to have lived in Doolin!! We have been to Doolin 3 times and we love it so much there! Spent many nights at McGann's and McDermott's listening to Blackie O'Connell on the Illean pipes and Cyril on guitar. Fantastic!!! I love Ireland so much. It's so magical!! 🍀
Epic. A beautiful melody and no less exquisite performance. Greetings from Poland, from the city of Będzin where the Celtic Music Festival has been held for many years and where the "Galway" dance group comes from.

BRILLIANT A no nonsense (But for the fun involved) solid session! Thanks ever so much for posting this playlist. It means a heck of a lot to someone who has never even been to your session physically, nor ever had training or coaching. So it is invaluable for the wider community. It's my favorite playlist to piut on when I feel the need to practice double bass to folk dance when am not practicing cajun rockabilly, bluegras, gospel, soul, etc. I probably learn the most from these sessions as it all transfers into the American roots stuff i enjoy, so easily. It is so cool how a really on-fire session maitains a tight solid rooted groove, yet so much freedom to attack it from any stance you feel at the time. And to think... I can't stand Guiness (even though I've been a guest at their Castle in Dublin!)
Absolutely. There is a lot of scottish folk around now too (I'm scottish), but I find the Irish stuff a LOT more jolly and happy, better LIVING dance grooves, tight grooves with 100% freedom to be yourself when playing with strangers, and less stuffy, and so on. Irish seems more inclusive too.
For twenty years I thought I lived in Ireland ,until I first set foot in Doolin .Then I was absorbed into the mist ,the roaring Atlantic ,the cliffs and the music of the people and the past.

very beautiful and instantaneously pleasant, no need to "learn to enjoy" or to "get used to it". this is very sincere music

Yes, you'd cry at O'Connors. The musical history is thick into the wood of the walls and tables and bar. The home of the Russell Family.
