God that was a great console. So many classics , so many technological breakthroughs (StarFox, Donkey Kong Country, 60-80 hour JRPGs , Street Fighter 2, Doom, Killer Instinct) ... The 90s were a terrific time to be a young gamer

Yeah and the classic list can go forever: Super Castlevania IV, MegaMan X and sequels, Zelda, Super Metroid, Contra, PilotWings, Super Mario Kart, Super R Type, Yoshi's Island, F-Zero, Secret of Mana, ActRaiser, Demon's Crest and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Super Punch Out, the Super Game Boy, the Super Scope, Mario Paint,... and as I say the list just go over and over.

And the anticipation meter was always through the roof cause you knew that right around the corner was a change in video game quality so significant that it wouldn't be the same ever again...

I remember circling this in the SEARS Catalog and just fantasizing about having it, staring at the pictures and games, seeing the commercials, trying to win contests to get one. Then getting it with A Link to the Past for Christmas...what an amazing moment in a kids life. I was blessed to also get SEGA the next Christmas and we weren't rich. I've owned a SNES since 1992 and can honestly say that it's still my favorite console of all-time, along with the PS2, NES, Genesis, Dreamcast, OG XBOX, PS1, PS3, etc. I still go back and play it from time-to-time. Games such as Super Mario World, Mortal Kombat II, Street Fighter II Turbo, NBA Lives 95-98, NBA Jam, NBA Jam Tournament Edition, Final Fight, Donkey Kong Country, NBA Give N Go, Contra III - The Alien Wars, TMNT IV - Turtles in Time, UN Squadron, F-Zero, NCAA Basketball, Tecmo Super Bowl, Super Mario Kart, Ken Griffey, Jr. Presents MLB, NHL 94, Wayne Gretzky and the NHLPA All-Stars and many more still feel just as fresh as they did when I first played them. I am fortunate to have grown up with the system and in the 90s. I also have a Modded SNES Mini, with many of the games mentioned.

Ditto here. Super Mario World was my first ever experience with video games; in fact, I've still got the original SNS-001 model SNES that my uncle gave me when I was like oh, 5 or 6. Unfortunately, it's currently a 30 year old paperweight at this moment because I CANNOT find a decent replacement AC adapter for it. Honestly, how hard is it to make a fucking AC adapter that outputs 10V DC at 850 mA with negative centre polarity? None of the modern replacements I've seen are even remotely close to the original specs. It's ridiculous!

I was a Sega kid first and Nintendo kid second. While I didn't have a Super NES growing up, that didn't stop me from playing the games. I would either play them when visiting my older cousins' house or by renting the system and some games. My first taste of the SNES library? Final Fantasy 4. Later on, I'd give StarFox a whirl. Then came Super Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat II, Lethal Enforcers, and Donkey Kong Country 2. After dithering among the Genesis, Nintendo 64, and PS1, I started playing SNES games on emulators. The first game I played this way? A Link to the Past. I've played LOTS of SNES games this way: Super Mario World, Final Fantasy 5-6 (which I now have along with 4 via the PS1 re-releases), Seiken Densetsu 3 (it wasn't available in the U.S. yet), Pilotwings, Tokimeki Memorial, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevania: Dracula X, Harvest Moon, Chrono Trigger, Bahamut Lagoon, and several others. Eventually, I scored a SNES from my stepsister's then-boyfriend. I now have four games for it: Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Secret of Mana, and Mega Man X. All four of these cartridges are loose. I'd like to buy more games at some point, but some of them are expensive regardless of whether they're loosies or CIB. And when possible, I prefer to play on original hardware. But I haven't played my SNES in a while because I still have yet to upgrade the A/V cable from the shitty yellow composite cable to something better such as HD Retrovision's component cable (neither of my TVs have SCART inputs, nor will take any connection via a SCART-to-HDMI converter for some reason).
At the end of the day, I like both the Genesis and Super Nintendo. They're both two of my favorite consoles of all time, and they both had great games. Can't go wrong with either.

As a kid, we mostly only had some Super Mario games, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, 2 of the Super Star Wars games, Killer Instinct 1 & Mortal Kombats 1 & II.
But as of 2007, I started building up my Super Nintendo collection when my Grandpa gave me the model 2 he & my Grandma got for us for Christmas in 1998 to use at their house that had been sitting in his basement unused for some time (since 2002) & I've been nabbing games here & there ever since.
I didn't play the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, F-Zero or either Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on the console as a kid, but played them later on in life via emulators.

I own 4 SNES games. Super Mario World, World Heroes 2, Wheel of Fortune Deluxe (Majesco re-release), and Super Star Wars (1998 re-release - Rated 'E'). And I don't have accessories yet like the Super Advantage and the Super Game Boy, and I also don't have enough games for that console yet like Final Fight, Final Fight 2, and Final Fight 3, Paperboy 2, Super E.D.F.: Earth Defense Force, Rival Turf!, TMNT 4: Turtles in Time, Yoshi's Cookie, The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle & Friends, The Ren & Stimpy Show: Veediots!, The Ren & Stimpy Show: Fire Dogs, The Ren & Stimpy Show: Time Warp, The Ren & Stimpy Show: Buckeroo$!, the Donkey Kong Country series, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Space Invaders: The Original Game, and Frogger, and more.

Both systems are great and are my favorite. Sega has Sonic, Splatter house 2 and 3, Shining Force, Contra hardcorps, Castlevania Bloodlines, Crusader of centi etc. Super Nintendo had Super Mario World, Donkey Kong country, MegaMan X, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Legend of Zelda Link to the Past etc

Fortunately I was able to find a SNES at my local game store and have been playing it with my 5 year old son ever since!! There's an unboxing video of it up on my channel if you wanna see! I love SNES! Great memories and many more memories to create 💜

The single biggest regret of my gaming life was getting rid of my original SNES and the games... My single biggest joy has been buying the SNES Classic mini and hacking it to have all those games back again in an officially licensed 'continuation' of the SNES. Between NES and SNES you'll find the vast majority of my childhood gaming experience and I'm just glad there was a way to get that small piece of it back.

I was gifted a Triniton TV, taught myself Japanese, and picked up a スーパーファミコン in Japan, and was shocked to discover an entire galaxy of games that never made it to the United States. Now I think I need hardly buy another game system, ever again.
My only request, to those who get a Super Nintendo, is to do yourself a huge favor, and get yourself an old school TV. The graphics will totally pop, and it’s a radically different experience in a way that’s not captured by photograph of a TV. I have taken pictures of the screen with my cell phone camera, and looked side by side- they look nothing like each other. I have seen software emulators that look like the photograph, but not at all like the real thing. It’s NOT about scan lines!

I use a flat-panel instead. I got rid of my old CRT when I moved to a new house two years ago because space was at a premium. The only reason I'd ever buy a CRT now is if I ever score any light gun games such as Lethal Enforcers.

It had a slow start but by the mid 90s it wasn’t even funny how much the SNEs was kicking the Genesis. I remember the Genesis started out as the cool kids choice in school but the hits kept coming on the SNES and pretty soon, Genesis was no longer cool any more, and those kids went really bitter toward the end.
I had both, and everyone wanted to play the SNES at house parties. I do remember that when street fighter was finally brought over the Genesis is was awful and showed how much more powerful the SNES was. SNES just had so many quality games I remember even the journalists on a popular Sega magazine got caught playing the SNES and had to write an editorial defending themselves.
It’s really sad how quickly Sega sank after that - Console wars were a lot of fun and they brought the best out of each other as the video suggested.

Yeah, N64 was a unique experience, but it has NOT aged well. Revolutionary, and great games at the time. I've recently tried to go back and play it...was met with a lot of disappointment. Maybe Zelda OoT. would still be worth playing, if not for anything else, the soundtrack.

@@boodro2122 I agree most of N64 didn't age well due to the washed out looking textures. At the time though it was better than Playstation. I felt Playstation 2 beat GameCube. Ahh, Nintendo is a fun company to follow.
