- “Fourteen Gears (Adobe House Version)” from Midland’s ‘The Sonic Ranch’ official soundtrack, available now: Midland.lnk.to...
In the Spring of 2014 we took 11 days out of our very separate lives to head down to the Sonic Ranch, a studio nestled along the dusty American side of the Rio Grande outside El Paso, Texas. Midland was not so much a band as an experiment fueled by an assortment of spirits - but mostly tequila and the possibilities painted in our imaginations. We had no record label or manager and we had never played a show together. These recordings capture three friends, at a live-in studio in the desert, trying to make a dream come true.

I was a long haul trucker for years. This song embodies the feeling that I would get every single time I came down Monteagle Mountain and crossed over Nickajack Lake after 5 weeks and 2 west coast turns. Almost home again.
This song deserves to be on top of all the charts. It’s a crime how little people know of this gem.
probably that way by design
Here’s to hoping someone is smart enough to include it in a well written movie. Then they’ll know.
Never heard it till tonite--these guys are fantastic!!
Nearly perfect classic sounding trucker song. It's simplicity is what makes it so great with its jingle guitar accomplishment, steel guitar, awesome. Then Nashville got ahold of it for the album version and destroyed it with horrible over production. They made it feel modern. They turned it into garbage.
@@thomasschradle6183 Yeah I don’t know what they were thinking making it different. The feedback was not good on it and rightfully so. I’m just glad they finally released this version on their Sonic Ranch album.
This song to this day is still the best midland song, the story behind this song, fits every music note. The truck driver, the last American cowboys. 💕 I say it with nothing but admiration for those who dedicate their lives moving America.
Damn Straight.
Hammer down!!!
Hell yes 🙌🏽
We truck drivers APPRECIATE that appreciation. It’s hard to find today. Hammer down baby!!
That’s right!!! Much love!
I quit listening to new country cause its not country anymore. Then I found Midland by mistake on RUclips. This is pure true country. My dad was a trucker his whole life. He passed away in 2016. He would have loved this song. Wish he was alive to share it with him But every time I here this song I think of him. Should be on number 1 on the charts.
Brother was a truck driver same with daddy, both lost their lives and this is my music i always dedicate to them!
@@yourownreligionlook up Gastonia by the Star Room Boys
big mistake, pal
My Uncles were truckers for most of their lives both long and short haul. I have no idea what their music tastes were but if they’d have heard this even if they disliked country I think they’d have loved it.

I'm a 62 year old who's heard pretty much every type of music. This is great country again. Proud of these men. They,ve brought country back again.
I grew up on AM radio that was the only place to get county music in the 60s . Their sound brings back a lot of memories.
Anyone who’s ever done a road trip in the Southwestern US with remote mountains and or desert scenery so gets the absolute genius of this song.
I've driven all over the country but its something about those wide open SW desert highways especially at sunrise and sunset. Put some tunes on and its magical
Central valley california
Yup!.. .this song is sooo Arizona.
I have not once every seen any mountains or desert scenes unfortunately but this song still resonates with me
Yea AZ bullrider during college
Thank you Midland for saving country music. Johnny, Waylon, and Merle can roll back over now.
no joke
There’s other singers that helped also
Finally!!!! This band is going to restore classic story-telling country.....God Bless
Amen to that brother!
Man, I sure hope so
I'm afraid not. Too many Florida Georgia line shit
As a truck driver from the great state of Texas this hits right at home. Great song , great melody , viva Texas and midland 🍻
Pinche frijole
I remember when this came out on RUclips all those years ago. I’ve been waiting all those years for this version to come out.
Yup
Same here
I've never heard it before. It's great. Is it weird I've listened to it about 8 times now?
@@kenmellinger8262 I have listened to this song so many times, singing along, that I have started to sound like Midland.
@@anthonyrybczynski5420 exactly
My little brother passed a couple days ago. This was starting to become one of his all time favorite songs. Now everytime I heard this, specifically this version, it will always remind me of him. RIP Captain ❤
I'm so sorry. Wish you the best.
Sorry for your loss
Same, my little brother passed in 2019, still hurts, this was one of his favorites, we played it at his funeral.
I'm so sorry for both of your losses. That's really rough.
How absolutely refreshing to hear a country song that sounds like this in 2021. A song about a working man, his love, and the beautiful land that is the US. A piece of the soul of country music was put into this one.
This version was the first Midland song I ever heard. I was hooked instantly!
Likewise.
Listen to "drinkin problem", and "tougher than the rest"
Hands down - Best dang country song since Amarillo by morning. Can’t believe this isn’t at the top of the charts.
This is the version that should've been on the album! 🤩🤩
Well she's out to stream now! We won!
nah. that version fit the sound of Let It Roll. The og version fits Sonic Ranch
This is definitely the best version. This is the song that made me fall in love with Midland.
The song is on their new album
Anyone know why they decided to put this on the Let It Roll album and not On The Rocks?
This song embodies everything I love about driving a truck. First time I heard it, I was in the left lane with the hammer dropped outside of Amarillo, bound for L.A. Man what a feeling! Thanks Midland, this is REAL country!
Yes they finally released the og version!
There’s power in numbers. For years we’ve only had RUclips to listen to this version. And now we have this version on an album. We did it boys 👍🏼
George johnson for Pres!
Thank you!! I didn’t know it was
Best decision Midland has ever made. This better be a hit
It's a hit with me
The mustache, the music, and the Mexican flag guitar strap. This is peak country.
100%
Why the Mexican flag? Not being argumentative, just want to learn. I wasn't born or raised in US. My impression is that country fans would prefer the American flag.
@@closetcleaner In my opinion I believe real old school country has a lot of influence from Mexican/ Hispanic music.
Also Mark (lead vocalist) was raised on a farm right across from the Mexican border. He has a very huge love and respect for the culture.
If I am wrong some one please correct me.
@@closetcleaner Cowboy culture and Mexican culture share a lot of similarities and are even influenced by each other in many ways. Way back in the day when there was less problems and the border was open, people often went across the border back and forth for work or trade. It was common for a lot of Texans in the area to be fluent in Spanish and Mexicans to be fluent in English.
There are several different sub-genres within country music and I would say Midland definitely falls into the Texas side of things. Texas is not so big on being "American". Not that it's bad but they just love being Texas more than anything. Being a Texan is also acknowledging the Mexican roots in some ways. I think it's great that they actually give a "shout out" to the culture.
@@cantugabe Yes, Texas being Texas! Country of orgin=Texas.
This song ranks among the best country songs ever made. I’d put it up against the best of King George, Johnny Cash or even Hank Williams. It’s truly that good. Thank you for finally rereleasing the original version!
To be honest old country songs are really good but sadly the audio is usually crappy
I agree with you buddy.
It's a good song but you're on drugs
I love it two man I found this song couple years ago and fell in love with these guys
It reminds of a Merle Haggard song.
This is pure country, how it should sound. Thank you Midland for saving country music. Love the steel guitar
Solid country music 👍🏾 as a young truck driver I grew up old skool from the best of the best. Mark you look like you just crawled out of a 359 Pete after being weeks on the road. The stache the sound and the filming. Keep it comin. They say old souls are a dying breed.. no we’re here to keep it going
My favorite song from midland. I'm glad I'm from el paso. These guys have pulled me out of hard times with just the things they produce. Thank you Midland for bringing good country music.
Music connects all of us no matter the origin. Love Texas and country culture, simple and humble, nothing complicated. God blessed all.
I can't believe I am just comin across this song tonight for the first time. 😭😭😭 My hubby was a long-haul trucker till cancer took him off the road. He shifted his last gear on 8/11/2023 to go home to be with the Lord. Now I am just shiftin through the gears of life. Minute Man R.I.P I'll be there.
Sorry for your loss 😢 prayers 🙏🏽
The superior form of 14 gears
Both are good
Hell yeah brother.
@@banditodorito8617 but this one is far superior
SUPERIOR
The acoustic version is better
Can’t wait to see these guys next month in Helotes, TX.
After watching the Country Music Awards show and thinking, "Man, I didn't hear any country music..." it is stone cold great to hear a REAL country band playing real country music.
Midland hope I still alive .. and next year 2024 see you live !! One of the best contemporary country's band
Drove for 45 yrs & this is the 1st time I've heard this song! Can't believe it! Bummer!
37 views... I had to download the 2015 video just to hear this and now it's finally on an album. Extremely excited for the rest of it!
I'm the wife of a country boy trucker. I love this. It rivals Kathy Mattea's 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses as the perfect quintessential country song.
This guy has the coolest swag with that mustache and the 80's cowboy style! only he can pull that off!... I love Midland, wish they did a Feat with Jon Pardi.
You called it man! long neck with Pardi just dropped
One of the best country bands out! I grew up oj 90s alan jackson, brooks and dunne, and their live performances is an all time great! These texas boys will be around for a while!
When I see a long haul trucker on the road at night or day, I get a little twinge, knowing they’re pushing through every word of this song to get there on time. Husband, kids & I spent many hours on the roads moving around a lot- ID, CO, WA, TX, AZ, CA, NY. Truckers have my respect & appreciation. Love this song.
The combination of rustic country and modern pop really makes for a catchy tune!
My favorite trucker song of all time! And that says a lot.
Cuts to your soul if you have ever driven professionally. Love it, why don't the radio stations play stuff like this?
It's all about the hip hop country nowadays
Midland does play on the radio, just not this specific song. Point taken however, the radio is absolute horseshit 99% of the time.
they havent sold their soul. prayin for you boys.
This honestly the truth!
Love this song, I don't understand why we don't hear Midland on the airways! Sounds great to me. I listen to most of their songs but this one has special meaning.
It’s so sad that Midland isn’t appreciated more. They have the best classic sound and lyrics, they blow all the quote “new country” out of the water. We need to push the pop country out and get back to the classic sounds
Best road trip song 🙌🏻
Yes!!!!!
I agree
I got 14 beers to get where i belong
Damn straight
😂
😂😂
Heard this 300 times never thought of that and it’s my little hobby. Well done.
My mind always goes to 14 Beers as well. I have to catch myself when I'm singing it out loud.😂
Had this blasting from Los Angeles to Phoenix while driving a box truck. Had 10 gears but i felt the spirit of this song. The desert, the heat, the long trip, couldnt ask for a better song for the road.
i think this is my fav country song of the decade it just hits me right in the feels
I'm a lapsed country fan, and recently discovered Midland. this is version is one of the greatest of country songs.
This was one of the first Midland songs I heard and I was an instant fan. I had to listen to this video for years driving back home from the rig as it wasn't available elsewhere. Glad to see it preserved. A true throwback to the classic honky-tonk sound. I can't wait to see them at Billy Bob's on April 10th!!!
I really like Midland when I first heard their song.lol😘😘😘😘
You’re the reason I started listening to country again ! No gimmicks or fluff or pop. Pure country
it is beyound comprehension how this incredible band have had only five songs in country charts and only one top ten! just seen them live in uk they are very talented and haven't made a bad song. they have saved country music.
This is the best song I have heard in years this is country music at it's best
The most authentic new country song in years! Straight out of the 70's! Poco, gram parsons, eagles, its got everything and its brilliant. ❤
This should be #1on the country music charts and playing on every radio station in America.
Such an underrated song... this should well over a million views by now, favorite country band by a long shot.
Don't understand why these guys are not number one in Nashville. This is the best country out there
Things country lovers like to see..thank you Midland
Best Trucker song I have heard so far.Really love it.
One of the best country bands around
As a trucker myself I love this song!
Not only is this version incredible, it’s one of my favorite country songs. Modern country typically doesn’t have good story telling like the old school songs do, but these Midland boys have some good song writing.
Agree with you. Midland really speaks to your soul, especially as a working man who works away from home.
This song needs more views for sure. It’s so underrated.
There are no words that can explain how this song makes me feel!♥️♥️♥️
Talk about bringing back old time country Midland right on point #loveyou all the way from Australia
By far the best version of this song well done. Also greetings from Scotland 🏴 wishing everyone who sees this all the best👍
Just discovered midland. Love them. My husband drove for 30 years.
i realy thought we had seen the best of country music! i cannot put into words how good this song is and midland in general. myself and my partner were lucky enough to catch them in uk recently! they were absolutely incredible! best and most exciting thing in country music in a very long time . they realy have got that twang!
Never been so happy for a version of a song to be on Apple Music, Spotify, etc.
Watched the sonic ranch documentary, and every song hits the heart in a different way I didn't think was possible. truly inspiring
14 gears made my heart. Especially after my dad passed. He was always jamming Midland since they made their debut. Always grateful 🙏. Especially seeing them in Taos, NM. I love Midland.
Great song. This version captures the loneliness of truck driving beautiful. This song is proof that there's still good country songs out there. I just wish the radio stations would play more of these songs instead of that country-pop-shit. Thanks for making this and keep putting more of these songs out Midland.
This is the first Midland song/video I ran across. Love it. My band will always throw this tune in the set. 🤠👍
Great tune & lyrics..Midland's got the old school vibe...true country!
Top 10 favorite country songs of all time. It’s just so beautiful
Midland is a breath of fresh (yet somehow vintage) air!
Holy cow. What did I just hear. Didn’t know music like this was still being made. 🎉 Exquisite.
Such an amazing song that brings real country back to the forefront, where it should be! Thank you Midland for being real country! 👏👏
A gem of a song…love this band and their sound❤
Man!! That guitar strap is 🔥
I like how this bunch of gringos shows their love to México at many ways 🇲🇽😎🍻 Salud!!
This is honestly incredible. Within a year this will have millions of views no doubt. Wow.
I got tickets to see these guys at billy bobs on friday, im pumped
WOW!! IM STOKED FOR YOU !!!! HAVE FUN!!!!
As far as I'm concerned, this is the true version. I first heard it, must've been 2017, on that video of the small live performance for a radio program. This is the *true* version, far more suited to the attitude and lyrics of the song.
Song reminds me of my dad. He took on 2 jobs for a long time. Working nights as a truck driver. My mom is what kept him going and thru the night.
Its the epitome of what a damn fine country song should be and is!! Fellas you hit the nail right on the head!Hats off to you 3!🤠
I travel for work, I don’t drive a peterbilt but drive hours sometimes getting to different towns in the U.S for work, I’ve been all over Texas, west coast, east coast, the south, northern states and Midwest, every time I’m driving back home to Texas this song hits hard
Its all about the sweat! Love it.
Amazing. Just became my favorite modern country band. Awesome guys! Channeling the classic greats on this one. 🤘🤘
Just started listening, You guys are great!!! At last some real Country Music. Keep'em coming,We're listening. BRAND NEW FAN!!!
About time Midland officially released the good version of the song.
Love Midland! My favorite country band.🍺🍺🇺🇸🇺🇸
Incredible song, beautiful really, and majestic vocal, no doubt!
Good and holly country sound!
I just enjoy this music, it make me feel well 😉
Best wishes from Argentina.
I love the sunsets in the Tucson west sky 😍🥰
I love the band Midland! One of my favorite bands of all time!!! There songs bring joy into my life. Keep up the good work y’all.
Pure country,
Reminds me of hitting the outback roads here in Oz south west Queensland
Awesome! And so much better than the album version.
I was sold on this song! All there songs are sooo cool. Old time country music version!!!!
What and incredible track - Truly the way Country music should be sung, performed and shared with the world. Just fantastic
Simple and simply amazing.. Country storytelling at its finest.
Wouldn’t imagine a truck driving song could be a soft, gentle , beautiful ballad - yet here it is……..
I'm so mad this version isn't on Spotify. This is the best Midland song.
Its literally on spotify. I just downloaded it.
@@heithheithinson2495 just found it. You're my hero
thank you for this midland 🤝 you put hope in new country artists
So much better than the current bubble gum BS Country
Agree totally 👍
At one point Merle Haggard wasn't country enough for country music. Be careful what you judge.
@@markpeterson6836 I don't remember that but if you've turned on country radio in the past 2 years, you would know that this boy band country crap is cliche drivel. Not sure how you correlate Merle Haggard with today's dime a dozen pop country.
True.
BGBS Country said they're country ,but later they turned out to be pure pop.
Yall havent ever heard of Sturgill Simpson or Tyler Childers have ya?
