- Featuring that red scamp, Angron. In this video I'm breaking down my approach to creating a blend with diluted layers. There are many techniques that can feed together to quicken this process, but here I wanted to show that approach by itself. Enjoy!

Just coming back to painting after a hiatus. My son was born about five months ago and haven't touched a model. This was the perfect primer for me to get back to basics guided by the best painter I know. 😊
Welcome back!
This is a dense chromatic knowledge taco, and I have feasted and I finally am laying glazes I feel proud of
Haha, deep is the taco and many layered are its lessons.
Adding "Give Sam a beer if I ever get to the states" to my bucket list. Least I can do for these awesome tutorials.
I have your videos on speed-dial as I re-learn to paint minis correctly. Thx man!
Haha, cheers!
This is a masterclass. Very well explained. Thanks Sam!
Glad it was helpful :)
I think this has been the best video showing and explaining how to actually blend with layers!
Thanks, JadeCat! Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the analogy of casting sand where you drag your brush. Really helps with conceptualizing what's going on with the paint. Thank you for showing the whole process, also!
Glad it was helpful!
I will always love watching Sam lay down that sweet-sweet blends.
Brilliant mate! Thanks
My pleasure!
Excellent demonstration! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Professional 👍
Great video loved the lesson and the walk through was insightful, thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent explanation, so clear, thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
I learned so much from this video. Thank you so much Sam.
Heck yeah, cheers!
Loved this helpful video! More basic videos like this would be much appreciated, especially since you showed the entire process. Thanks!
Thanks man! I'll keep that in mind.
Sam, thank you this is really going to help me on my painting journey
Happy to help :)
Huzzah, thank you thank you. Great information about the process of blending.
My pleasure!
I stumbled across your video and I am so glad I did! Excellent video and this is exactly the type of miniature painter I would like to become. Everything you said just made such perfect sense. Thank you!
Glad to hear that!
Am I turtley enough for the turtle club!
One of the most beautiful talons I’ve ever seen. Looking forward to seeing the whole model when it’s finished
Blending reminds me of The Cube of Learning, which still comes in handy when trying to understand the how to apply the paints
He's getting there slowly haha. Thanks man, always remember the cube!
Its so cool seeing you perform at such a high level. I remember when you first started painting miniatures with thick thick globs of paint!
Thanks for inspiring that growth. Cheers, Riley!
Great video. Helped me to see your paint set-up at the start of the video and to watch the consistency of the paint on your glove.
Great to hear that!
Can you please do more videos like this! This was a very good and was good tutorial
Holy crap. This is the blending bideo i have needed
Yeah buddy!
Great video Sam!
Yeah buddy!
Superb video!
Glad you liked it!
Sick 🤙
Another helpful tip is to use juice instead of water for dilution. This allows for a tasty treat when cleaning your brush.
😅
This one and your previous tutorial on this make for a reaaaally good duet to learn how to blend! Thank you Master!! *in goblin voice*
Yesss, precious learning. Cheers man!
You always get an honest Like at the intro before I even git’lurnt by the Chromatic Overlord himself 🙃
Haha, much appreciated!
Darn it, when you said safety layers my brain immediately starting singing Safety Dance and now it's stuck in my head.
Not a bad place to be 😎
Love your hair Sir! 😊
Great tutorial..! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
One shot one kill good way of explaining a precise edge highlight with no dilution
Sam has a 100% kill rate. Best sniper in the business.
Gorgeous
You might have wanted to wait until after your wet blending seminar at adepticon before publishing this video haha. Fantastic quality as always, Sam.
⛓️💥🖌️!
This is great to see. I’m not great at these types of blends, this will surely be helpful. Now do wet blends!
You got it!
My issue with blending tutorials is that they are all done in blade/talon edges. I wanna see one where they blend a highlight in a sphere that's where I struggle
Yes Chrome plated speed wizards!
You rock
I do what I can :)
Sam, thanks for this tutorial, the demonstration was very good!
Question, I noticed you used one colour & then mixed with black / white to change the value. I’d love to see / hear your opinions on this value shift method v the fanatic triads which slightly alter hue. A compare contrast would be very interesting to analyse from your level.
Maybe an example with some old world models could be a nice little bow on top!
Thanks man, I'll consider that. I'm usually mixing colors but with the full range of Fanatic I have a lot of options.

love the guide! One question, what is that painting behind your computer...i;ve seen that style before but dont remember where
It is the Egyptian Queen by Frank Frazetta.
Thanks! There are a few back there but people pick up on the Frazetta one and Slaine by Bisley.
Painting ASMR =P
Do you ever attend GENCON? Or, more specifically, do you ever teach painting classes there?
Also, congratulations on your team up with AP.
I've been there in the past but haven't come back in a while. Maybe I'll make it out this year!
Hey Sam! I realize this has probably nothing to do with the video, and might not really be any of my business, but what's going on with that pickle jar on your desk? Is it just a water jar? Nosy minds want to know! Haha
Just a simple pickle jar haha. I use it for paint water, it can helpful to put a lid on my water at times.
Hey Sam. I know you own an airbrush; when you're on the clock and painting a commission, do you still choose to blend by hand the slow and steady way?
What type of paper do you use on your palette? I notice that the paint retracts a bit but not fully. For a while I was using paper that caused the paint to retract waaay to much and that made things very difficult, now using the paper that comes with the palette the paint does not retract at all, but I'm not sure that's the greatest either.
I'm using parchment paper opposed to the thick waxy stuff for heavier fine art grade acrylics.
Is that a Cerebral Rot long sleeve? Good band
Yeah, love the gross stuff ⛓️
@@SamLenzArtwork same here brother. The grosser the better. If you haven't checked them out...Putrid Stu, Tomb Sentinel, Esophagus, Fleshrot, 200 Stab Wounds are some other gross metal
Comment for the Comment God… Also very informative ❤
Much appreciated ⛓️
Pretty common usual mistake - you should NEVER add more than 30% of water to acrylic paint. There is special glazing medium for this purpose.
