Thunders on shorter wheelbase boards, indies on longer wheelbase boards
What's a short or long wheelbase for you?
@@khris1107 for me anything below a 14.1 is a short wheel base, so a long wheel base for me is 14.25 and above. just note that i ride a 7.8 deck so this might be different for anyone else.
14.25 is standard for any trucks.
What constitutes as a long or short wheelbase depends on the length of the actual deck...no?
@@pedrohewitt9277 how far apart the trucks are
Thanks for the analysis of those different points about wheel base, trucks, and putting them together for desired effect
Just updated my setup-
I'm rocking the Thunder Titanium Light's 147's now with Bones Hard Bushing's they last the longest and Riptide Pivot Cups and with all custom Titanium Hardware straight from Japan I'm talking all the way down to the bushing cups to the 7/8th's hardware to the 4 Axle nuts even the tiny little 4 nuts are titanium that screw on the 7/8th's hardware and it's even got a custom titanium hollow Kingpin from Japan custom made so Rust free and Extra Extra Strong no more snapping hardware here! on some Bones Swiss Ceramics $160 bearings and some spitfire formula 4's sorry guys didn't mean to shine on ya to hard lol but my setup is Nutz... Not even pro skaters got this type of setup lol my board is a Creature 8.25 Vx and MoB Griptape! oh shit not to mention i got sk8kings Steel Bearing spacers its helps put less stress on the bearings don't buy aluminum bearing spacers they will shred inside your bearings and destroy them! also i don't hear about a lot of people rocking the bearing spacers it will save your bearing's and they will last a lot longer.

Indy =China thunder = made in Cali . Random info
Thundys all dayyyyyyy
True don’t support China.
i found this while high
Alternate title: choose thunders
True
I haven't skated in a long time but I do know that Thunders have always been my go-to truck for some reason I can't even explain why I feel like it turns a little sharper or feels more nimble while Indie still more planted like you said
Indy 169(9.125”) on an 8.5 is madness.
I thought I was mad with 159s on a 8.5...
Haha I rip 149s on 9’
Thunder 147 lights on a Indy titanium baseplate is the best truck I've ridden by far for me.
Keeps the Wheelbase almost the same, got the perfect in between height and the nice baseplate slide of an indy with the responsive and fast popping feel if a thunder. I don't know why not more people do it but it kinda eliminates the weaknesses of both trucks and only keeps the good things about them.
This seems genius, I might have to try this
So I tried it but found out my thunders don't snugly fit in the pivot cups of my independents and it's impossibly hard to remove .-.
@@timwinn there's is the IKP baseplate for indys, thunders fit well on them.I also did it on the forged baseplate of Indy Titaniums, which also fitted well (had to saw down the kingpin tho)
What wheels are those on the Indys, that looks like a nice fast grippy shape for transition?
Look kinda like spitfire formula 4 conical full
Yeah, that is actually one of the best wheel shapes I have ever seen. I liked the radial fulls but I think they discontinued that shape.
@@sidwellsk8er conical full formula fours are the best wheels, hands down
@@soydave1988 for street?
When will someone have the balls to just say which one is better.. at the end of multiple videos they’re gonna say “it’s all preference” .
For me it’s always a different answer. Right now I think independent truck are better.
Got two pair of Thunders and on both pairs (all 4 trucks) the baseplate ripped and later tore apart after a couple of month. I am a flat ground ONLY skater and weigh 80kg. This is why I think they are pretty shit
when I was like 13 or 14 I remember I had two different pairs of thunder trucks, and they both cracked either on the base plate or the axle and I was a small kid mostly just flat ground and hadn’t skated either set for more than a few months that stuff shouldn’t happen as often
Thunders on a 14.25 wb deck always felt a little long, but a little short on a 14. Now on a 14.125, Thunders feel the best, but maby still a little squirly. Gonna try Indy's on a 14.375 wb deck, which should yield a distance between axles that is a hair longer then Thunder on a 14.125, yet still just a hair shorter then Thunders on a 14.25.
Give credits to Ben Degros
Nice review man I def subscribed.. happy New Years bud! Peace from San Francisco!🎄🎉🎊🍾
I like that Independent's kingpin is more upright because it forces the axle to pivot more at an angle giving me a quicker turn and causes the wheelbase to be slightly shorter which is better for technical tricks and quicker pops. However this works against me at high speeds and also independents do not grind smooth surfaces as well as Thunder. On the other side we have Thunder whose kingpin is more slanted causing the axle to sit more upright. Its causes a bigger wheelbase resulting in slower turns, slower pops and more effort needed to do many of the same tricks. It also causes Thunders to be superior at high speeds and the slower pop results in more stability needed in big ollies, gaps, rails, etc.... I personally would use Independents to skate boxes, ledges, manny pads and use Thunders to skate gaps, rails, and other big obstacles.
You know, I just thought of something. How come truck companies don't just stamp Front and back on their trucks?
It should be common knowledge at this point that your front and back trucks wear differently.
Good idea.
I am an old school skater and Independents are the way, the truth, and the light. 169s on an old school 10.5x32" single kick pig and big 64mm Bones Mini Cubics.
I keep a pair of indy 149s thunder 149 and Venture 5.8s some boards have different geometry wheelbase, steepness of kicks, fingers of flat etc, so my go to truck is Indys but if it doesn’t pop right I will swap over to thunders or Ventures lol crazy but it works
Tbh depends on the deck
I have titanium thunder lights III, Uber light Mullen board, spitfire wheels 53mm and bones Swiss ceramic bearings
I use Indy’s right now but I’m thinking about trying thunder
My wheel base is 14.25 so do I go with thunders
Such a strange feeling to watch your videos and see footage from good ol Ky.
So what about for a real deck I got some indy149 ace 44 and sum super smol thunders
indy
I skate a 7.75 I have grizzly trucks cuz I got a grizzly complete as my first skateboard should I buy some new trucks I’m for sure getting a new board it’s needed but Idk if my trucks suck or not they are the only trucks I’ve ever skated so I can’t say if they are good or not
Indy for life👇
That’s easy Ace , are the best
Would you recommend Ace truck?
Ace = indies grind meets thunders grooveyness
Got a pair of indys a few weeks ago and the hangar doesnt even sit properly in the pivot cup,it just jiggles around and makes my setup feel and sound like shit. Sticking with thundys now
Still using my cheap unbranded trucks, they are lightweight and kinda smooth, I got them on a cheap board.
I've been longboarding for a short while and wnat to also get a skateboard that I'll mostly be using in the skatepark for all purposes like dropping in, grinds and kickflips etc. And idk what kind of trucks to get, idk what would be better low or high trucks either
Get highs for now less wheel bite
Lows are better tbh
Go ace trucks or thunders...thunders r naturally a mid truck, n ace has both options
Thank you so much, did not know the wheelbase diffence
Indy 169s on 8.5" is a bit oversized no? What are the thunders? They look quite a bit narrower. Would explain the stability/nimbleness thing
That's 3 and a half minutes of my life I'll never get back
Well i mean what would you have in those three minutes? Watch another video?
N I C E
149 on an 8.5
What’s the editing effect at 1:22 called ?
Thunder
Woodland Skatepark. Where I grew up skating.
Awesome. Great park.
25 year old park
Big boys ride indys
what wheels are on the thunders?!
Thunder Hollow Lights II Trucks Are just Insane best trucks I've skated in 2021 and i have also tried the all new Thunder Titanium light III trucks but didn't buy them due to i was afraid of getting axle slip it mostly happens on Titanium axle trucks only but still give them a Try! now for Independents Trucks go for there Forged Independent Titanium Trucks those are independents most expensive and lightest trucks they carry but they have lots of meat on there trucks and good for grinds other than that they are just very heavy Trucks but do last the longest out of any Truck Company Thunder is 2nd to None also me personally i skate both i like to switch it up a bit so i skate thunder and Indys they are both unbeatable Truck Companies also check out Theeve Trucks they make all Titanium trucks with anti axle Slip so the axle's never slips but are mad Pricey Good Luck & Cheers:)
Just can't believe Independent moved to China lol. but they still good trucks but if i had to chose I'm taking the Thunders all Day ;)
ace.
Yo you at Woodland park bro? That’s crazy
Yeah, I lived across the street from woodland for 5 years.
I like Paris
Top info skate channel. Deserves more shares.
which thunder did u use to compare with the indy 169?
161
I just switched to thunder 148 lights from independent 149 and I got to say the thunders are so much better imo. I never realized how heavy indys are until I got these lights… my pop is at its best now
I like suspension trucks
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thunder 😋
I've skated both a lot and i think all the wheelbase talk is kinda silly for street skating, when you ollie or flip once the front truck leaves the ground what difference does the wheelbase make, the size of the deck is what matters at that point and truck height the same, when the tail hits your foot keeps coming up either way unless you want to ollie 1 inch or do a baby flip, i always poped my tricks as much as i could. I prefer Indys, the standard hight for street skating because i run bigger wheels and i ride miles to get to skate spots in Chicago but Thunders work too i would just run smaller wheels bit you can still run big wheels with Thunder, Matt Reason used to run like 60mm, i run 53-56 with either one without any problem.
Indy for life
And venture?
I have a question which are the best thunder trucks for the skate park I want some of the really light ones
Team edition thunders are great, maybe some lights, thunders are a pretty light truck in general no matter the truck so just that little weight difference isn't much to notice. So to say the least; buy any thunder truck...
@@jaijacobson thanks I bought some today for Christmas
Nice, what kind did you get
@@jaijacobson I think some regular if I remember after Christmas I’ll reply with the exact ones
Team edition is a little taller I believe
last year, I bought my first board but it was just terrible. Ive saved up some money to buy new parts, do you think I should go for the thunders as kind of a beginner truck?
Go thunder
If you not sure if you really like skateboarding or will continue then thunder.
I've never skated Ventures but I remember reading their sales were right up there with Indy and Thunder so they might need to be in the convo. Just a thought. Good points on the differences of these two although I find Thunders more stable myself.
Ventures increase the wheelbase like thunder trucks
@@3jsu5 Yeah I've heard even more so than Thunders. Have you ever tried them?
@@delplaya5 I've had venture lows and they felt similar to thunder, thunder have a better turn in my opinion.
@@delplaya5 you should check out Ben Degros youtube channel, he explains a lot about the trucks.
@@3jsu5 Thanks I'll check it out.
Is getting used to Indy really hard when ur really dialled in on thunders?
It depends on YOUR capacity to adapt to trucks, but yeah, they are soooo different
Get ace trucks, I just tried them out finally n love them...I have 33s on my 8" set up n 66s on my powell peralta frankie hill bulldog reissue...indie kingpins I kept breaking n they don't turn, but the grind is awesome...but I've always loved thunder trucks, best everything but that turning is insane groovey...but ace is slightly less meaty indie grind wit thunders turny groovey turns, n they r really techy
Do a video of suspension trucks vs normal
Independent or Ace
Ace...fuck indie their kingpins r always breaking n r mad heavy...look it up joe tershey quit indie, n started up ace
Indy
@@MichaelRelevant I go back and forth with these two, I love my Titaniums, my raws, and hollow Indy's. I also love my two pairs of classic Ace and my 3 pairs of AF1 2x 66 with one being hollow 55. Been riding Indy since stage 5 but I cannot argue with precision engineering and I think the AF1's beat it there since umm you know China. That said when I really need to get a trick the Titanium Indy;s are my go tos. I also have 161 149 Thunders that I also like alot. I have three pairs of mini logos which are really awesome with me preferring the 8.75 just due to me being a bigger dude and liking bigger decks 8.5 is as small I can go and really trying for it not natural feeling at all (grew up on 10 inch wide and 9 is ok). They have a curve in them like Tensors that really make them grind awesome. All in all I am not brand loyal and every truck company has something for all of our varying tastes and styles and the differences should be celebrated. I think Ace offers the best overall and Indy is tied with that and I am okay with that. Thunder being a close second. Trucks I have not skated better than the ones I have, shorter list: Venture, GrindKing, Bullet, Royal, Paris.
New video of me relearning how to Ollie on my page.
Thunder trucks shit on independents. Indys feel like crappp
Slappy lows all I need to say
Thunders are better for street skating in my honest opinion
