Hey I’m going to need you guys to put out more episodes, I listen to these while I work and I’ve gone through old episodes and now I find myself checking my phone to see if y’all have put out anything new… (even having alerts on). That’s up there with Fortnine desire for content, and that is saying something! Thanks for the great content, keep it up!
The whole point of High Point was that the founder wanted to make the cheapest guns possible, that were still accurate and reliable, so that a single mom working 2 jobs, just to feed and clothe her 3 kids, could still afford to buy something to defend her family with. He wanted EVERYONE, no matter how poor, to be able to exercise their 2nd amendment rights and be able to defend themselves. I don't remember when High Point was founded, but I'm pretty sure it was the 80's or 90's. Like they said, at that time, most modern guns were relatively more expensive. Most pistols started at $400 to $800 and long guns might have been slightly higher for their starting prices. A "cheap AR" was about $800. That would be the equivalent of about $800 to $1,600 in today's money. High Point is like the last fat chick in the bar at closing, she ain't pretty and you're not gonna brag about it, but she'll definitely get the job done, and surprisingly well too!
Hi-Point carbine in 9mm is my wife's favorite home defense firearm. At 5'-2", it fits her perfectly. She's a terror with iron sights at 50 yards standing, unsupported. Nearly a 100% on an 8" gong, every time. Yes, it shoots hollow points. Trigger work is simple to perform on these. I heard the words "it's a hoot" said to describe it on this video. That is how I often describe them.
I’ve done my fair share of scoffing at high point pistols, but they really did something cool with the 995. It truly is a fun to shoot, and with a red dot becomes reasonably handy to use. Thanks for giving it a little love vortex nation. I really love your podcast
It still boggles my mind that they haven't made a version that takes glock mags. Imagine this thing at around 300 bucks plus a couple of 33 round glock mags for about 35 bucks each and you have a whole lot of fun for very little money.
Respectfully requesting cartridge talks on 284 Winchester, 6.8 Western, and 300 Savage (my grandmother who passed in the 70’s used this cartridge for blacktail)
I also had a Hi-Point in 40. Loved that thing. Coyotes didn't quite care for it but I didn't really hear them out on that. Sold it to a friend when i got out of the Marine Corps. As for 40 I've loved it since. Got a USP in it-as god intended.
Love the fact the Marlin Camp was mentioned. My grandfather had a Camp 45 that he loaded for and it was definitely not safe for pistol loads lol. That gun was what got me wanting a Ruger PC. It’s just super fun. I had a Hi Point Carbine many years ago and I don’t ever remember having a single problem with that gun.
Gentlemen, my brother- ever the Vortex loyalist- recently put me on to your Podcast and now I'm completely hooked. Coincidentally, I'm finishing my own AR-15 build from Palmetto State- complete, of course, with a Strikefire II Red Dot. Love the optic, love the content, keep up the outstanding work!
Just curious, is it just the normal AR bolts that are problematic or the 9mm PCC bolts too? I ask because this made me check their site and they have a 9mm AR with TEN 27 round PMags for 699. That's a whole lot of fun for not too much money. And a straight blowback 9mm bolt is such a simple thing, it's hard to imagine they could screw that up.
Bought one 6 or 7yrs ago, just wanted a PCC in .45, put a Romeo MSR dot on later and no regrets since. As long as the FACTORY mags are used it'll run anything including +P. Fun, accurate and reliable out to 100yds. Let my buddy's wife shoot it, she had no experience at all and was shooting 2-3in groups at 25 all night, she loved it.
I've had mine since my 18th birthday. 44 now. First gun I ever bought on the day I was legal to purchase one. It still sits in the back of the safe. I should pull it out and run it. Good show. Thanks
You guys completely missed the Ruger Police Carbine! From 1996-2006, it was a ten year run on the carbine complement to a police officer’s duty pistol. It was made in both 9mm and 40S&W (hello Ryan!). It utilized the same magazines as the Ruger P-series pistols. A police officer could rely on the pistol for close work, and extend with the carbine without needing different magazines. It was a polymer stock, ghost ring rear, protected blade front sight, and had a trigger reminiscent of slapping a shotgun. The downside was it was slightly difficult to break down for cleaning and maintaining. The trigger group was built into the stock. It was short-lived and doomed as it was mainly marketed to law enforcement, and you already had to be invested in the Ruger brand. I still have mine that I found in a gun shop and ran it in quite a few PCC divisions until Ruger released the PC Carbine in 2018.
I have the 995 and love it. Runs all kind of stuff with no problem. Steel case, etc.... This is an affordable option for home defense but there are some recommended mods like a bigger charging handle and locking it in with blue locktite.
I resisted PCCs as long as I could, but Ruger finally produced the LC-45. Velocity limited by the speed of sound makes me want big diameter, heavy bullet. Glock magazines that work in my G-21 as well, and I really like the magazine in the pistol grip. Makes for one less snag point. Plus Ruger’s design with the bolt over barrel yields a really short package. I even modified magazines to get 25 rounds. The long magazines are heavy but they work.
I have an aero precision epc9 with a 5.5 inch barrel and it has been a great little pcc but definitely way more expensive than the hi point haha. Great video
This is a good reminder that it’s ok to have cheap thrills with firearms. Not every gun you have has to be some tricked out go to war gun or some match beast
I have a 995 and a 4595. They aren't a tactical Ted's wet dream, they aren't a precision instrument; what they are is fun at the range and an economical home defense weapon. There's plenty of videos of people that could only afford a Hi Point having their house broken into and the perps run for their life. I have a lot of respect for them producing a firearm for people that can't afford a $500-600 firearm can afford.
I’m like Mark-printouts are useful. I like them. My canary enjoys the reading material post-production. He’s got business to do too and he really enjoys the education. I know a man with the.45 auto chamber. It’s a close range thumper that benefits from the barrel length. I sure wouldn’t stand in front of one voluntarily!
I have a goofy bullpup rifle for y’all. 10 shot rotary magazine, integrally suppressed , bolt action, adjustable regulated pellet rifle. 900+ fps with a 22. Amazing garden gun for critters under 50 yards. Have it topped off with a 6-24 X50 Vortex diamond back on it. The sound of the pellet hitting game/ steel is louder than the report. Happy to show/ share with the crew
I bought the Hi Point Carbine in .45 ACP and a companion .45 Hi Point pistol about 10 years ago. The magazines could be used in both of them. Very accurate. I let a lady use both of them at the range. She is now into firearms. I later sold the Hi Points. I am thinking about getting the 9mm versions.
Please do a cartridge talk on the .264 Win Mag. It was well ahead of its time. My first deer rifle was a 6.5x55 swede that was a pleasure to shoot and was phenomenally accurate. I now have a recently acquired original savage 110L in 264 that i can't wait to test fire. If the barrel shoots well, it will get refinished. If not, it will get rebarreled.
It’s a firearm you get when the price is right. They are more fun than the AR. They get a lot of flack but only from people that never shot them. As far as durability, a range I worked out had one as a rental that got abused every weekend. Never had an issue with it. We kept 5-6 in inventory for sale because most people that rented the gun on the range bought one! At the time, I think they were $189.
I put a little scope on my 4595, a compensator(I'm unsure if this did anything) and a bipod and I love the thing. Cheaper to shoot than many of my other guns
I bought my hi-point 995 carbine 15 years ago. Shoots great. Rated for HP and +P+ ammo. Trigger a lot like a stock glock. Trash, but consistently trash. I bought the beretta cx4 later. Much better planned gun with much better mag options and a little better ergo. Otherwise, they shoot similar. I love em both but I only admit to owning one of them in conversations with friends 😉
Like they said, the issue with HiPoints from a monetary perspective is you can get basicslly twice the gun for less than twice the money. Now, if you only have $300 then its whatever, but if youre thinking of getting 2 HiPoints youre better off with 1 better gun.
Hi-Point could make a massive improvement by making models compatible with major brands, just like Keltec. Youre more likely to convince a Glock owner to get a 995 carbine than convince someone to buy a Hi-Point pistol.
3:55 people that parrot the "milspec is lowest bidder" line have forgotten the commercial time. Low quality cast commercial tubes instead of extruded buffer tubes, small pin FCG lowers from Colt, "AR15 carriers" taking weight from the mechanism instead of a proper milspec sized carrier.
In the early days of PPC one showed up at league regularly. I don't think it ever completed a stage without a jam. In all fairness to the carbine, it's owner was not known for the quality of his reloaded ammunition!
On top of my gun safe, there sits an old magpul mil-spec furniture set from back in the day. I should have double-checked my buffer tube size, and having an extra furniture set gives me an excuse to build another rifle.
For under 500 you can get the Extar EP9 and several Glock magazines. Or spend around 400 for the firearm and use the 9mm Glock magazines you already own.
They aren't really as difficult to take apart as people act like they are. I think that most people just never bother to try because such a big deal is made about them being a pain in the butt to take apart.
Had one chambered in 9mm. Couldn't for the life of me get the damn thing to run. Constant ftf and fte issues. Finally got a better job and moved on to better arms.
Ive got a cheap 4595 and I just wanted to make it more usable out to about 100 yards or so. I threw a 3-6x39 optic on it and a cheapo folding bipod so i could sight it in properly. For fun i threw a steel compensator on it and now my only gripe is the trigger feel. Very usable 150yards out but havent taken it past that.
Had the option for the 9mm and had it been a double stack, no question asked would have went 9. That said, being hipoints only packing single stack, it was 45 and honestly wouldve got 10mm had it been available
Good morning, about weapons I let get away. Ruger m77 06 and an Ithaca deer slayer in 16 ga. A pump shot gun with stock iron sights from the 90s. Hope ya'll do a show about firearms that got away.
Kinda ugly, kinda heavy, not very sexy, but like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps on going and going no matter what kinda 9mm ammo I put through it. I got one back in 2013 when 22 rim fire ammo was more or less extinct and cost close to what 9mm sold for per a shot, not that it was all that plentiful either, when you could find it. For me it was a plinking gun, a substitute for a small game getter if I had to, could be pressed into home defense despite the 10 round magazine limit, and a Truck Gun I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over if it was stolen in a break in. I got a 55 gallon barrel of once fired 9mm brass, I reload, so it was a very economical choice for me. Accuracy is respectable although not as precise as I would ideally like, velocity is running about 1400-1450 fps giving it some punch! Plus it is still about 1/2 the price of other 9mm PCC's and comes with a life time warranty! There are some after market parts for it that can improve the shooting experience. The Red Ball magazines suck at least the several I have bought!!!
Only gun snobs hate this gun. I could write pages of what I think is wrong with the gun but still highly recommended it. Everyone I know that has one of these critiques it heavily, but smiles as they shoot it.
Always wanted this in 9mm or 10mm!!!.... (I O buy this can I put a suppressor on it, and will it quiet it down without disturbing neighbors while plinking?).... or what ammo to use when I do put a can on it?
I’m looking for a max 200 yard white tail gun that a new hunter could use without understanding bullet drop and light recoil thinking about 6.5 Creedmoor in a break barrel or maybe a 16.5” 10mm pcc. Any thoughts?? Thanks for all the talks
As someone who makes gun drills, reaming, and rifling machines. The “accuracy fingers” are a byproduct of the button rifling process. The buttoning process does not form a metal “chip” or “swarf.” It plasticly deforms the metal, similar to pushing a pea through a McDonalds straw. Or golfball through a garden hose. Thanks! Long time listener here!
If hi point was serious they make one that takes g19-17 mags .. Like a keltec . they sell even double easy .. But the Kel Tec isn't taken seriously why would these ..
No shade on you guys, but I love how everyone says HiPoint products work. I have yet to come across one that actually functions. Save your money. Get a real firearm.
if you really hate the spring reoil pad... ATI makes a replacement stock.. or.. a bit of out of the box thinking... FLIP FLOPS cut and to fit either between the springs or go drilled to fit around them :) I made a diy velcro/flipflop spacer and recoil pad $5.00 Bass screw and lapping / valve grinding compound can solve you "accuracy fingers" in a few min. ruclips.net/video/O7p_V2alSLs/видео.html the goat mumbler (not me) shows how. Garand Thumb video on the 995 was so bad I dropped him from my watch list. Magazines are $20 but still pricy for a 10 round mag. no go to palmeto and you will find complete pcc with 10 mags... for 7 or no mags for 6
You must use the factory mags, all aftermakets are unreliable, One famous reviewer used the red estended mags and it jkept jamming because those mags just don't work well so he said it sucked nevr ran a factory mag. I have never had a jam with factory HiPoint mags.
Hey I’m going to need you guys to put out more episodes, I listen to these while I work and I’ve gone through old episodes and now I find myself checking my phone to see if y’all have put out anything new… (even having alerts on). Be happy those 10 minute talks go slightly over time so you'd had a lot more to listen too ;)
It seems as though Vortex is putting out more than just optics, this is one of the best shows that talks about guns, and all things related.

Let’s be real here. The hi-point carbine runs better than 99% of 9mm ARs out there. These things are ugly as sin, but they absolutely fuck. 😂😂😂
You ain’t lying. Every criticism of Hi Point ends with but it’s super reliable.
2 out of 3 hi points I’ve had have never ran reliably. C380 and 9mm carbine.
Respectfully requesting cartridge talks on 284 Winchester, 6.8 Western, and 300 Savage (my grandmother who passed in the 70’s used this cartridge for blacktail)
300 savage talk please! My grandfather had one that now belongs to my uncle. Hopefully it will be mine some day.
I'd 3rd the vote for 300 savage
This episode gives me an episode idea: compare actions of classic American bolt guns. R700 vs Savage 110 vs M77 vs M70
I also had a Hi-Point in 40. Loved that thing. Coyotes didn't quite care for it but I didn't really hear them out on that. Sold it to a friend when i got out of the Marine Corps.
As for 40 I've loved it since. Got a USP in it-as god intended.
I bought the exact thing from a friend in the early 2000s.I kept it behind the seat of my truck and it always shot decent.
I’m surprised Ryan is touching that gun without a Hazmat suit on!!
I never imagined Ryan would own a Hi-Point!!!

Keep going with these firearm videos, love the stories and discussions!
9.3x74mmR, Lead Balloon 25 WSSM, .32 ACP, Remington 1100 in 2024,
1. Hi-Points are now threaded, 2. PSA bolts have a "reputation" worse than Hi-Point.
Just curious, is it just the normal AR bolts that are problematic or the 9mm PCC bolts too? I ask because this made me check their site and they have a 9mm AR with TEN 27 round PMags for 699. I toyed with the idea of getting a Hi Point Carbine, or pistol. I just never pulled the trigger on getting one. I have no excuse. Great podcast!
Bought one 6 or 7yrs ago, just wanted a PCC in .45, put a Romeo MSR dot on later and no regrets since. As long as the FACTORY mags are used it'll run anything including +P. The best anecdote I ever heard was of the guy that returned one with 20 something rounds squibbed in the barrel
That’s an ammo issue.
@@krm944ammo or not it would have blown most guns up. He returned it because he couldn’t get it to print.
Its a straight blow back action.

I bought one of these as a broke kid for $180 back in the day and it ate Blazer Aluminum all day long. It's not a good gun, but it is cheap and fun.
Love the Gin and Juice reference from Mark!
I was gonna get a hipoint just to try a pcc but then the Smith Wesson FPC came out, I do love a folder.
I have a goofy bullpup rifle for y’all. 10 shot rotary magazine, integrally suppressed , bolt action, adjustable regulated pellet rifle. 900+ fps with a 22. I have always thought about getting one, but don’t because I have ar’s and ak’s. I would like to get a 10mm version.
It’s a firearm you get when the price is right. They are more fun than the AR. They get a lot of flack but only from people that never shot them. As far as durability, a range I worked out had one as a rental that got abused every weekend. Never had an issue with it.

I put a little scope on my 4595, a compensator(I'm unsure if this did anything) and a bipod and I love the thing. Cheaper to shoot than many of my other guns
As a guy with several AKs and have owned ARs in the past I absolutely regret selling my little high point back in the day it was fun for what it was
I bought my hi-point 995 carbine 15 years ago. Shoots great. Rated for HP and +P+ ammo. Trigger a lot like a stock glock. Trash, but consistently trash.

I have a pretty extensive firearm collection, and I let my son-in-law choose anything he wanted. He chose my hipoint carbine
I got one in 10mm. Trigger is heavy, installed a budget red dot. It will shoot any ammo too, factory and hand loads..
Hi-Point could make a massive improvement by making models compatible with major brands, just like Keltec. Youre more likely to convince a Glock owner to get a 995 carbine than convince someone to buy a Hi-Point pistol.

Believe it or not my major metropolitan police department’s only long gun was the CX4 storm up until about 6 months ago.
Please: more features from Jim's weird-gun safe. These are awesome.
Currently it resides in the updated stock, but we still have the original chrome furniture around. I kinda wanna switch it back😂
Yeet Carbine now with accuracy fingers. I think I need the same setup.

I love the 1095

I bet you could rig one to look ALMOST like an MP7 type thing.
If you didnt know anything about guns this would 100% as is on the table pass as the plasma rifle in the next Terminator movie if they ever make one

I’m looking for a max 200 yard white tail gun that a new hunter could use without understanding bullet drop and light recoil thinking about 6.5 Creedmoor in a break barrel or maybe a 16.5” 10mm pcc. Any thoughts?? Thanks for all the talks
Now you guys have to do an ep on the TNW
I've heard from a couple people that these are nice PCCs for the money.
Original sights were absolutely crap on the one a friend bought. But it was great with the red dot
They make it in .380 too!!!
American huffers favorite rifle
Hey Jim…hi point website has magazines under $20.00
I wanted to buy one myself but both the crips and the bloods wouldn't take my application ..its a bummer
Hipoint 995 mags are 18.95 thur Hipoint
As someone who makes gun drills, reaming, and rifling machines. The “accuracy fingers” are a byproduct of the button rifling process.
The buttoning process does not form a metal “chip” or “swarf.”
It plasticly deforms the metal, similar to pushing a pea through a McDonalds straw. Or golfball through a garden hose.
Thanks! Long time listener here!
I bought a 995 years ago at dunhams for $150.00.
PSA GX5 and GX7 are on sale for $549.99. They must have known this podcast was coming out. Takes Glock mags.
We got a hi-point talk before a .300 savage talk?
I always wanted the 10mm
I mean, it's works. Mostly.
Endomags 🤮 no no no. A conversion block costs as much as 4 endomags, and then you can run glock mags
If hi point was serious they make one that takes g19-17 mags .. Like a keltec . they sell even double easy .. But the Kel Tec isn't taken seriously why would these ..
When i was in my early 20s me and a buddy shot the crap out of these things. They were great for the money.
I can’t for the life of me see why people would prefer a 9mm over a 40S&W, Shame Shame!!!
newer have threaded barrels
But the Ruger LC Carbine exists…
Calico looks cool as hell, but runs like garbage
What happened, Ryan?
No shade on you guys, but I love how everyone says HiPoint products work. I have yet to come across one that actually functions. Save your money. Get a real firearm.
The carbines absolutely work.
The consensus of opinion is that Hi Points just work, I tend to believe the mass of people on this subject.
The 10mm have a horrible reputation. The 9 and .45 seem to work
if you really hate the spring reoil pad... ATI makes a replacement stock.. or.. a bit of out of the box thinking... FLIP FLOPS cut and to fit either between the springs or go drilled to fit around them :) I made a diy velcro/flipflop spacer and recoil pad $5.00
Bass screw and lapping / valve grinding compound can solve you "accuracy fingers" in a few min.
ruclips.net/video/O7p_V2alSLs/видео.html the goat mumbler (not me) shows how.
