I'm an old welder...in my late 60s, when I was doing pipe everything was up hill 6010 root & 7018 cap, it's interesting watching you younger fellas doing it down hill 8010....back in my day that wouldn't float with the inspectors....lol, my how things change, good job boys, loved the video, your fellow welder. Bob
I appreciate the knowledge bubba. I spend a major portion of my day at work listening to and watching your videos, soaking up the information and sometimes watching certain videos multiple times like these branch setup videos. I'm 35 and feel like I got a really late start so I'm anxious to get out of this fab shop, the sooner the better and with as much knowledge as I can get from watching your RUclips videos. 🍻
I WELD branches /bosses/thread outlets on Ductile Cast iron pipe in the water works industry. But cast is a whole other animal. I really like your videos man!! Been welding for 30 years and still love it! I guess I am weird like that!! LOL! Pays the bills!
Great video, I have been watching your videos for a while now but this is my first time commenting. I am 18 just about to graduate highschool and I went through a welding program for a year and a half ended up getting 3 certs 2 structural certs, a 3g SMAW and a 3g FCAW and I also got a schedule 80 pipe cert. Hopefully I'll be working with my neighbor this summer since he's a pipeliner. He also said that he'll bring some pipe home and let me practice so I also have a chance to weld, which is a great opportunity that will get my foot in the door. Thanks again for uploading these great videos(One of the few channels that have no BS just facts)learned a lot and hope to learn a lot more in the future.
man it sounds like you got it made. having a pipeline welder there to help you out is a great asset learn all you can from him and really pay attention good luck keep us informed.
thanks so much for everything y'all done. inspired me more and more every time I see y'alls videos. been waiting on these videos for a while. y'all keep on sending them hope to see ya lol soon.
Great video sir. I am one semester away from finishing a welding program at my local community college in Utah. I appreciate watching your videos. They give me a lot of motivation.
Thank you for the branch layout I've always been really curious to how it's done. My name is Bailey Small and I have been welding at my local vocational school for the past 2 years of high school. Monday I start a four and a half month pipe welding and fitting course. I've been watching your videos since your first one was posted. Thank you for all the tips and all of the inspiration, your videos are awesome and very motivational. I've been dreaming of getting out in the field and welding for the past few years and now it's time to work hard and make it happen, thanks again!
Love the videos brother. Best video was the one where you tell the story of you're first job. Lol they will haze the hellllll out of ya for like 90 days and then once ya earn the respect all is good. Keep up the good work brother. It's nice how you show everyone. Likes it!!
hahah first jobs are never fun lol but your exactly right once they know your here to stay they tend to help you more then trying to get you run off lol.
You guys must been busy took awhile for y'all to respond back I live in northeastern part of Oklahoma start of the Ozarks buy 2 and 1/2 hours from Oklahoma City done some pipe jobs up around that area Kingfisher with Tonga enjoy y'all's videos keep that helper learning the weld that's how I started out as a helper sure do thank lot of the pipeliners that helped keep up the good work I'll be watching
thanks Darren thats how i started also i think it was the best way to get into the business. thansk for watching really wanting to see the Ozarks one day.
Pretty dope bro.I shot xray for several years..got into some trouble and earned me a state funded vacation.so now I'm goin 2 my local community college learning how 2 strike an arc.hopefully I'm good enough 2 get out on the line.
I was subbed before the branch. I was on a test once, it was a puddle cap on the branch. I busted on the 6G, so I never made it that far. Stay safe brother.
HEY BRO...MY NAME'S EDDY.... JUST STARTED WATCHING UR VIDEOS YESTERDAY... JUST WATCHED UR 12 ON A 12 I'VE BEEN WELDING CLOSE TO 20 YRS ...PIPE CLOSE TO 6...USED TO. DAMMMMMM I REALLY WISH I COULD'VE WORKED AROUND A PERSON LIKE U.. EXCELLENT JOB....STAY IN TOUCH BRO.👍 welder's run hotter!!!
Jacob Schofield, working on a big conveyor install for FedEx in Connecticut for the Millwright union. Saving my pennies for either a Miller Pipe Pro or an Miller Air Pak. Need to be able to have the capabilities of plugging my plasma cutter and Mig Welder in as well as pipe welding. Need to be able be able to diversify. Heard you telling your brother, "down 10" Funny as hell but the hardest part of being a helper on the Delaware pipe job I was on was understanding my welder who was from Mississippi. " Da teen Gino" lol. Keep up the good work. Maybe our paths will cross in the future.
Hey Jed one good reason to get the inspector after each pass is if he wants something fixed you can. A buddy of mine was told to bead and hot pass one then the inspector said he didn't like one spot on the bead but since he had already hot passed he couldn't try to fix it. He said well if there wasn't a hot pass on it I'd let you try.
Thanks for doing this man, I’m looking into breaking out , am told that’s what I need to really practice is 12” branch. This is helpful. Wish quality of video would of been a little better to see where branch meets pipe. Is there a bevel on the branch?
I was a welders helper for over a year then my welder passed away. I still love everything welding but it's a hard thing to break out into unless you know people.
When your running your bead Jacob are you doing a whip and pause motion or just dragging that puddle down hill and feeding that rod in with pressure. Trying to see what type of motions you do but can’t ever really tell. Thank you for your videos.
Nice job on the videos man! Just hit the subscribe button. I just picked up a blackface a few months ago for a steel, what settings were u running on the root?
Please explain to a non pipe liner the different types of welding hoods. Why do I not see the self darkening welding hoods out in the field? Why is your face shield flat? Thanks... I subscribed.
Ken A what's going on buddy thanks for being part of this the hood I'm wearing is called a pancake hood AKA looks like a pancake lol!! I love them and really do t go back to scoop unless we are tiggin. The reason I like them is it's shaped right to my face so. I sparks can get in and it's completely dark no light from the back coming in. I do you an auto lense either a miller or a singles. The one thing I like about the scoops are you can wear sunglasses under them so when you flip your hood up it's not quite a shock to the eyes when it's really bright out. Hope that helps
couple things, first good videos man your knowledge for your age is impressive and your videos are great. isn't it true that you only bevel the header? I've heard that somewhere? and also heard they won't let you run 1/8 all the way out? thanks man keep it up
adam rosholt I only bevel the throats on the header. And that all depends on your inspector when you show up to the test it's what ever the weld procedure dictates hope that helps man
adam rosholt when you build one of these and set it up you will notice the ears basically make a fillet weld. Through the root in them weld it out. On the throats you will notice when you set it up its tight so you have to bevel the throats to get the root in and to make a full pen weld. Hope that helps. I never bevel the ears you can if you want but it's just a lot more weld and it's not necessary. Build one and you will see what I mean.
Thank you sir! I've been welding for years for other folks, finally put me a truck together with all the fixings. going to take my 6-G certification and start looking for a line to test out for. God bless you sir! Your doing a great service for all the folks that's ready to start a career on the pipeline. Keep up the good work.
all i do is bevel the throats and make damn sure that thing is really laid back so you can get that rod in there. you will see when you get one fit up.
shouldnt matter how many tacks you got in it as long as you ty in to every single one. i have never been looked out at a test for the 8 tacks i run through it.
Do y'all ever get jobs where you have to tie an carbon to stainless all I see is y'all usually welding just carbon just wondering I've had over the years to graduate and and learn how to weld stainless with carbon use a lot of 309 stainless I want to see what y'all think of that pretty cool stuff
80 & retired Boilermaker welder & enjoy watching your very professional videos!!
Nice job. Good to see someone finally helping aspiring pipeliners to get off their asses and practice the right way.
hahah thank you sir just trying to help out
I'm an old welder...in my late 60s, when I was doing pipe everything was up hill 6010 root & 7018 cap, it's interesting watching you younger fellas doing it down hill 8010....back in my day that wouldn't float with the inspectors....lol, my how things change, good job boys, loved the video, your fellow welder.

I just recently got my 1G structural plate cert in school
I was a welders helper for over a year then my welder passed away. I still love everything welding but it's a hard thing to break out into unless you know people.
for sure i get that no doubt. it just takes making tons of calls and building those relationships and you got it made.

Aint but 2 thangs you cant weld a broken heart and the CRACK of Dawn
Brandon Pinson true that

Great video. What wall thickness is the pipe on one of these tests and is it usually the same.
they range from .250 to .375 wall
how much time are they gonna give you for that test?
Jobs to me is more than money, it's a sense of pride purpose and honor, tradition that feeling of accomplishment
Please explain to a non pipe liner the different types of welding hoods. Why do I not see the self darkening welding hoods out in the field? Why is your face shield flat? Thanks... I subscribed.

What type of ground clamp do you have
Can you make a video about how to make one of those pipe bbq pits like on the back of your truck?
Yes i have been working on it its hard cause by the time i get home its dark lol
Fantastic videos. Pity you couldn't show whats happening at the arc itself, that would be very helpful.
couple things, first good videos man your knowledge for your age is impressive and your videos are great. isn't it true that you only bevel the header? I've heard that somewhere? and also heard they won't let you run 1/8 all the way out? thanks man keep it up
adam rosholt I only bevel the throats on the header. And that all depends on your inspector when you show up to the test it's what ever the weld procedure dictates hope that helps man
why don't you bevel the ears Schofield? it seems like you would want the whole fit up consistent no?

Great video! I was just wondering how you do your beveling on the branch and the header? Thanks. 3 to 3 on both
just the throats Roger.
Thank you sir! I've been welding for years for other folks, finally put me a truck together with all the fixings. going to take my 6-G certification and start looking for a line to test out for. God bless you sir! Your doing a great service for all the folks that's ready to start a career on the pipeline. Keep up the good work.
Great video! Can you share the formula for the branch cuts so it can be applied to different diameter pipes? Thank you for your time!
Travis Young i think either the blue book has it or the black book
the blue pipefitter book has it there is like 3 pages of different size pipe measurments
I just threw you a bone. I hit the like button! You're welcome. 🙃
Jamie R and... who are you??
Jacob Schofield a bone thrower. 🍖
Jamie R hahahahah i gots ya. Thanks man trying to help everyone out
Jacob Schofield awesome job sir. Keep it up...
any beveling required? your time and effort are much appreciated thank you!
rick v no bevel buddy. Long as good root opening u get all penetration needed.
Not to worried about clearance to grind the bead, just contemplating (CJP)
thanks for the video and your time much appreciated
all i do is bevel the throats and make damn sure that thing is really laid back so you can get that rod in there. you will see when you get one fit up.
good lookin out brother stay safe
When you run the root are you just dragging it?
Thank you wanna get the 1104 api but i need a rig
for sure you can always go weld single hand for a little while to get that money up.
Wht are the most common test...I know of the butt n branch, but I heard u say 3 test
Great tips. Hope I never have to do it. Lol
Chris Holifield ha hahahah I hear you there I've taken quite a few there really not bad at all.
so do u down hill all verticals on pipe
Tosh James no it's what ever the procedure calls for could be uphill also
do you think it will pass an Rx to many tack...?
shouldnt matter how many tacks you got in it as long as you ty in to every single one. i have never been looked out at a test for the 8 tacks i run through it.
Do you run a stringer bead all the way down hill? or half moon?
Im trying to figure out what you mean Roger?
how much time do they give you to finish branch test???
usually you will statrt at 7 and be bent and done with all your tests by 5
What do you call the type of pipe welding you do?
downhill, uphill basically just a pipe welder or rig welder.
What are you capping with; 5/32 or 3/16?
on the branch i will cap 5/32 on the Low high branches i will cap with either an 3/32 or 1/8
can you use the paper for any pipe
Damien Smith yes sir just need to read in the book to see how you need to space it out
you guys have any more of that pipe for sale
Jay b this was donated by Henry one of our good buddies
What calculator App do you use to make calculator?
And When are you going to do a video on Laterals?
Do you prefer the blue book or the black book?
I use the pipe trades calculator on the iPhone
Laterals? We must call them something else, what exactly is that?
throat ears go got it lol
Ben Smith hahaha let me know how it goes
Show us how to make a pipeliner bbq
working on it.
Make a video on how to get instead brother
ivan adame get what?
This 6010 all the way out?
magicmoonman115 no sir it's a 6010 5p+ root then however they want you to finish it.
great video know,any shipyard welder
keith Delaine thank you. I don't know any ship welders it's something I've been interested in though.
Do y'all ever get jobs where you have to tie an carbon to stainless all I see is y'all usually welding just carbon just wondering I've had over the years to graduate and and learn how to weld stainless with carbon use a lot of 309 stainless I want to see what y'all think of that pretty cool stuff
That's a lot of work just for a test
